How do I monitor CPU temperature on a 2009 MacBook Air Lion

My beloved 2009 MacBook AIr is freezing up.  I think it is overheating.  How can I monitor the CPU temp to see if this is the problem?
The Apple Store folk thought the SSD drive has gone bad, but they wanted $799.00 to replace it.  I bought a new 2013 MacBook Air, but returned it because the screen had a purplish haze to it and the contrast was poor (to my eyes).  I love my 2009 MacBook Air screen, so I want to fix it.

Download from the Internet iStat pro or Temperature Monitor from the Bresink web site.

I like IStat pro because it also displays the fan speed.
Ciao.

  • How do i monitor the temperature

Hi, how do i monitore the temperature of my macbook C2D? what is the normal temp of the macbook?
    Thanks

Many ways to see those numbers. I use the iStat pro widget:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
wich gives a lot of useful info. As for normal operating temperature, some macbooks run cooler than others. My temperature at idle (not start up) is in the low 50s (celsius). Fans start to ramp up in the low 60s, and won't let the temp climb up to more than, say, 78-80, under a very heavy work load.

Trying to install MS Office 2011 for Mac SP 2 (14.2.0) on my Macbook Air (Lion 10.7.3). I have to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent but can not see how to do so.  I have closed all applications.  Can anyone help? Many thanks

Thanks Kurt!  I had tried all that and had tried closing both programmes from the application monitor, but SyncServices Agent refused to close.  I tried closing Launchd which is their mother application, but that just caused the screen go go blank.  In the end the two programmes let themselves be closed next time I tried the installation process so all was well.  Thanks for your help!

how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences.  what else do I need to do?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

Or is there no other way but to sync apps from iTunes to iPad without syncing apps from iPad to iTunes(it says Backing Up , then it says Converting files to iTunes, then it shows the name of the app on the bottom...)

Yes, sign in with the same Apple ID as your stolen one in the new iPod Touch.

  • How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way?

You put the internal drive in an enclosure. If you choose to keep the drive, you don't need to erase it.

  • How do I save an iPhoto slideshow on my macbook air externally?

I have a macbook air (no CD slot) and am unsure how i can save an iPhoto slideshow externally from my mac.
In the past (on my packard bell laptop) I have always burned photos to a dvd and feel comfort knowing I have the pics externally  if anything should happen to the laptop.
I am still within my 14 day money back for the mac and am unsure whether i should change it for a macbook pro which has a cd slot.
Anybody any ideas how I can solve my problem and keep my macbook air?
Also, does my iPhoto slideshow stay in the iCloud?  Not sure how iCloud works.
    Thanks in advance.

Get yourself an external Hard Drive - USB, Thunderbolt, whatever your machine has ports for - and make back ups to that. DVD and other optical media is going the way of the floppy disk and in 5 years time you'll find it hard to get any machine with a built-in optical drive.
Once you get the drive make sure it's formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - you do this with Disk Utility
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
You can also export the slideshow - File -> Export -  this process makes a movie of it.

  • How do I download a Minecraft mod on my macbook air?

How do I download a Minecraft mod onto my Macbook Air?

You would be best asking this question on a minecraft community(such as planetminecraft.com, and there are plenty of videos for that, but the main thing is getting to the library directory. to do this, click finder, then on the top of the screen you will find GO. Click on GO and hold down "option". When you do that, "library" will pop up, so click on that. then once you are in library, go to application support ----> minecraft -------> bin ------> then you will find your minecraft.jar. click on it once and hit enter, so you can rename it. rename the file to minecraft.zip (say yes when it asks you if you want to change the extension). then double click minecraft.zip and you will get a folder called minecraft. rename that (hit enter on the document) to minecraft.jar. then enter the file and drag and drop the files of the mod. Search for META-INF in the file, and DELETE IT. then start minecraft, and you should be done!

  • How do I stop getting text messages on my macbook air

How do I stop getting text messages on my MacBook Air?

    Hi,
The Mac has an App that is called Messages and one of the accounts in it is the iMessages one that can sync with the iOS one.
Open the Messages app and go to the Preferences (In the drop down Menu in the Apps name in the Menu Bar)
In the Preferences select the Accounts tab.
Select the iMessages account  if it is not selected.
Untick the iPhone Number to stop iMessages sent to your iPhone Number appearing on your Mac.
Also go to the General section of the Preferences.
There is an items that reads "When I quit, set the Status to Off Line"  select this.
This will stop any incoming Messages (from any source that Messages can join) from launching to app when you have not started it but your Computer is On.
You may also want to go to your iPhone Settings and remove the Apple ID.
