How do I monitor encoded audio?

We are producing a switched webcast with camera audio and video coming out of our ATEM Switcher via HDMI into the MacPro via a BlackMagic Intensity Pro.  Both audio and video are coming through into our MacPro and getting encoded in FMLE and then spit out to Justin.tv.  The feed looked great and we were able to see that on our monitor, however it did not sound great and we were not able to figure that out until it viewed on Justin.tv live.  I plugged in headset and was unable to monitor the audio.
Is there anyway to monitor the encoded audio?

I have the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS board and I am using it to transfer vinyl records to make CDs. Before my upgrading of Creative Media Source 2 to Creative Media Source 5, I was able to monitor the audio after the cleanup prior to the transfering process. Now I can only monitor the sound at the line input point and not after the cleanup process. Is there any way that we can do that?Vinylrecord

Assuming you mean Actions when you say "Batches", use this menu...
    1.  Click on the name of the actions set you wish to save.
    2.  Click the fly-out menu icon at the upper-right corner.
    3.  Save Actions, put them someplace on your hard drive other than in the Photoshop installation area.

  • Monitoring VO Audio

I'm running a line out of my mixer into the Mic in on the mac. How can I monitor this audio in real-time? On the DV out side, I am getting timeline audio plus the stand-by beeps but no VO while recording.
Natually, after recording the VO, I can hear it fine in the timeline. I tried using system audio to hear the VO live, but still no go.
Audio system is wired as follows in case you need to know.
VO mic is being fed off an AUX off the mixer into a leveler, output of the leveler is to Mic Input on the mac.
DV firewire output is to a DSR 45. Audio from that is being fed to the headphones in the VO booth along with the video (VOing a sporting event).

I run a pair of headphones off the mixer when I do VO. You don't want to hear it on speakers, because then it will re-feed to the microphone...

  • How do i monitor/output digital/analogue audio while editing?

I just switched to the mac pro and am learning FCP. Now i am forced to monitor audio output through my headphones. I want to tie the audio into my studio monitors and also be able to send optical audio in to the mac pro from my main mixer, a Mackie 1404. Do i need a DAC(Benchmark), a optical I/O digital mixer or both or something else? My budget is upt to $1,000, but i would like to spend <$300.
In general, i am trying to figure out how to incorporate analog/digital audio/video in to my new editing system. Before this i was outputting analog video/audio in real time with a Velocity I/O card. I am now, obviously, converting to a new way of outputting my finished product and how to edit and work with the new Mac Pro.
I guess i could also consider using the firewire also, right? I haven't worked with a firewire based audio hardware unit, so any info on that appreciated as well.
Also, is the line out in the back of the Mac Pro mono or stereo? I appear to be getting a mono feed while monitoring clips i've shot.
While researching i might list here some things i have come across. Opinions on these appreciated:

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • How do I monitor audio while importing?

While importing from my cable TV, I Can see the incoming video but caan't hear the audio. I would be helpful if I could here the audio so I could go about my work and keep an ear on the feed. Then I would know when the feed is over without having to Constantly watch it. I suppose I could size the monitor windo real small and put it in the corner of my screen then rearrange all working windows arround it. But that's a pain...

How do I monitor audio while importing?
Use iMovie HD or Vidi to import files to your computer. Both allow audio monitoring. iMoveie '08 does not.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

Depends on what you are doing with it. Recording applications usually have some way of monitoring what is being recorded.

  • How long to encode audio

I am new to mac, this is my 3rd attempt to burn my first movie. Have read the articles about waiting overnight and are doing this as a disk image... but it has been encoding audio for more than 18 hours and the length of time since starting the process is over 24 hours. Is this normal or do I have an issue?
    macosX   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iDVD6

That seems BAD... The longest I've had to wait is 30 minuts; but it varies by project type. My just completed slideshow project encoded audio many times at certain stages of the rendering/encoding process.
I've seen some people have to wait many hours to get through audio encoding. Don't know what to tell you beyond that.

  • Can't burn iMovie to iDVD (not responding) - after "Encoding Audio"

    Hello,
I have a similar post in the iDVD board, but thought someone in this section may be able to help as well.
I have a 15 minutes project (almost 2 GB) iMovie show that I've attempted to burn to DVD through iDVD (4 times with the same problem)...
It goes through the "encoding menus" and videos, but gets stuck on "Encoding Audio" and in my Force Quit window says (Not Responding). I have almost 12 GB free on my PowerBook G4 and successfully burned a test DVD of this last week before completion (when I only had 7 free GB - I also added on another 2 minutes since then)...
Any help or ideas? I need to get this done ASAP...
    Thanks
    Chris

Chris, what I've found is that patience is the key here. You really can't count on the progress bar to let you know how far along in the process you are. I've run into the same problem as you. When the burn symbol stops spinning and you get the beachball/lollipop don't rush right off to force quit. Just because the force quit menu shows that iDVD is NOT RESPONDING does not mean that all is lost. What made me realize that iDVD was still working was the Activity Monitor located in your Utilities folder under applications (applications/utilities/activity monitor).
Do yourself a favor and run this app while burning you project. When you get to the point where it appears to hang on you check the status of iDVD in the activity monitor window. More than likely it will show that iDVD is still using a good % of your CPU (%CPU column numbers will constantly change as iDVD demands more or less from your processor). You may also notice that it may show that iDVD is not responding (as well as a couple other processes that are related to the prog), this doesn't mean a thing because iDVD is in reality still chugging along. Of course if the %CPU column is showing 0.00 then iDVD has indeed stopped workin in which case you do have some issues.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem with Encoding Audio

    Hi!
When creating my DVD, iDVD will be stuck at the stage where it displays "Encoding Audio", which is probably the last stage of the producing process. Both the right click menu of iDVD on the dock and the Activity Monitor displays "Not Responding".
I've tried exporting my DVD to a disk image many times already and it is always stuck at that point.
Past DVD (images) are successful, but this one is not.
Except that, I've noticed that I have 22.7GB of Hard Disk space before I've exported the DVD image. But after I force-quitted iDVD, I only have 16.25GB remaining, and I don't see new files. How can I delete the probably hidden file?
    What can I do?
    Please help. Thank You!

I'm having the same problem. I make a movie using iMovie, and then share it to iDVD. The process of making the DVD goes along smoothly through the step of processing the audio track, and then iDVD locks up and I have to force quit iDVD. It used to work ok, now it does it every time I try to burn a DVD. It processes the video resources fine. It just snags as soon as it gets to the process audio step. I use the latest version of iLife on a iBook G4 (14 inch model) with 1 Gig of RAM.

  • Encoding audio:  error or impatience???

newbie iDVD user.... I put together an iMovie of my sons football games with audio, effects, etc. it is about 25 minutes long. In trying to burn it to a DVD, the program seems to be "hung up" on "encoding audio"..... Or, does it just take a real, real long time? any idea on how long i should let it run before cancelling??? there is audio clips throughout the entire movie.
thanks in advance for any guidance

    I did it
I have made 2 previous projects.
One a 15 minute slideshow, 200 + photos, from in the "white" wedding theme, including 15 one minute audio clips from burnt CD EASY.
The Second I made a 3 minute DVD from DV. no problem.
On both I was able to burn mulitples, and quickly.
Its suppposed to be that easy....
WELL, for Open House, I am a teacher, I am made a 50 minute DVD. what a headache to burn, BUT
2 things that will help out BEFORE you burn...
GO TO PREFERENCES in i DVD and change to BETTER QUALITY,
I had a few sleepness nights and bluury days about the AUDIO ENCODING, but, the better quality, helped immensely. The beach ball does appear, but you can track progress in activity monitor. iDVD will be "not responding", but the monitor shows progress. DONT GIVE UP. Remember my project was 50 minutes, various photos, audio, spoken, and video.
OTHERTHING. the previous projects were short, and was able to multiple burn right away. THE last project gave my computer and anyuerism, me as well, SO. SAVE AS IMAGE, before you send to burn. IT saves all the encoding for you and since you probably ahve a headache or are in tears you can burn it later through DISK UTILITY.

  • How can I record an Audio Instrument (saxophone) and listen to a reference track at the same time?

How can I record an Audio Instrument, and listen to a reference track at the same time?

Are you using an external audio controller or the line-in and headphone jacks on the side of your computer? You shouldn't have an issue using headphones when you're recording through the line-in but you may want to make sure you have monitoring on and it's going to the right place.
If you're using an external audio controller, try making an aggregate device combining the controller and the "built-in output" into the same device. Go to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, click the "+" sign at the bottom left to make a new device and check the "use" boxes to the left of the physical devices you want to use as part of that aggregate device. That is how I use the computer's speakers or headphones to monitor my input as opposed to only being able to use the output on my audio controller.
Now that I see some of the questions on the side of this page I realize that the 13" MBPs seem to have only one combined input/output jack... That is an incredibly stupid feature. What on Earth could possibly justify that design decision? I suppose if that's the problem you're having you'll have to buy some sort of splitter (if they even make them) or get an external audio controller like an Apogee Duet or something along those lines. I would be furious if they combined those two jacks on all of the MBPs.

  • How to autmatically link SMPTE audio to video?

I'm looking into audio and video options for a documentary and could use some help here. Right now I'm looking at getting a couple the HVX200s and possibly a Edirol R-4 Pro. I've done a few searches here and on many other sites, but I don't really understand how you link the audio to the video in a setup like this. A long time ago I thought I read there was an automatic way to do this so you wouldn't have to point each video clip to its corresponding audio clip. I have read about Sebsky tools, but that seems to be for film rather than a video set up like this.
So, is there a way to quickly a easily do this? We'll be shooting a lot of material for possibly a year or so we'lll need something quick and reliable. Also, would it pose a problem to FCP that the R-4 Pro will have 4 tracks of audio?
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

It can work with cameras that accept external timecode. The camera's you've piced don't have this feature. They can be synced to each other only as far as I know.
Panny makes a stepup camera from this that does accept external TC coming. They showed it at NAB... http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O &storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=97602&catGroupId=14616&modelNo=AJ-HDX900&s urfModel=AJ-HDX900
Gotta say though it's not P2, but it is HD... That's actually part of the beauty of the 200. They don't make another P2 HD camera either. also doesn't sport the cinemodes that the 200 does.
But ya know? this may well be the least expensive HD camera that accepts external TC...
Your idea of running the 4 channels to the cameras is very inventive. I'd do that in a heartbeat as long as you can stand the setup you'll need to monitor this audio at all times. You'll want a mixer around for sure. And sure saves about 40,000 bucks. eh?
You going to shoot 2 camera all the time?
    Jerry
