How do I move a Premier Elements Project to a new computer?

I want to move a Premier Elements Project to a different machine with more efficient RAM and SSDs. How do I move a Premier Elements Project to a new computer?

Welcome to the Premiere Elements Forum.
I constantly migrate my Premiere Projects between my laptop, and my workstation, but I set those Projects up, initially, with that in mind - which is different than having a Project set up on one computer, and then moving it to another. For my setup (remember, this is initially, when I start a Project), see these two articles:
Setting Up Project Folders & Sub-folders
Using External HDD's for Video Editing
For existing Projects, there are a couple of ways to address this. The method that you use, might depend on how you plan on moving the Project.
If you have an external HDD, and plan to use that to do the move, see the "Using External HDD's" article above, as it talks about drive letters in the OS. Getting that correct first, can save a lot of work later.
Then, one can use the Project Archiver to Copy the Project, and necessary files to that external. When one has done that, I strongly suggest that they test that "archived Project," to make sure that the Archiver has gathered everything necessary. The success of that process can depend on how one has set up their folders and sub-folders, and where their Assets (the material that has been Imported into the Project) is located. That is why I always urge one to test everything first. Then, just plug that external HDD into the new computer. At that point, they will have two options: edit to/from the external, or Copy everything to the new computer. For the former, see that "Using External HDD's" article, as there can be some limitations, such as both HDD speed and connection speed, that can impact how well things work.
Next, one could just Copy (over a a wired, or wireless network, or via an external HDD), the Project file (PREL), all Assets, and most of the Scratch Disk folders, to the new computer.
Note: there are files in the Media Cache, such as CFA's and PEK's for the Conformed Audio, that do not have to be Copied/Moved, as PrE will rebuild those (give the program time to do so, and do not edit the Project, until they ARE rebuilt). Same for the Render Files, as if those are needed, one can easily hit Enter/Return, to Render the Timeline, or part of it, again.
Keep the folder structures.
If one gets the "Where is file _____ ?" message, this ARTICLE will be helpful.
Note that the PREL (Project) file is really an XML database. It contains NO MEDIA, but only absolute links to where that media was Imported from. See this ARTICLE for more background.
Good luck, and if you have any questions, or something above was not clear, please ask, before you make the move, as the answers might save you some time, and extra work.

  • How do I move my iPhone back ups to a new computer which is already using iTunes for a different device?

I have backed up my children's iDevices to my work computer. Now that my wife has a new computer, she wants to be able to manage their devices from home. Of course, she is already using her computer to manage her iPhone.
Is there a way to move my iTunes library files to my wife's computer so that it will recognize both her iPhone as well as our children's iDevides, without losing any data, playlists, etc.?
    TIA

No. You cannot join the two libraries. She can make a copy of your iTunes library on her computer, then switch libraries when opening iTunes if she needs to handle the other devices. Note that everything you have downloaded for your kids on your computer are connected to your Apple ID. Your wife cannot transfer anything to her Apple ID.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • How do I move my iTunes podcast subscriptions to a new computer?

I have a Dell computer running Windows XP.
I just purchased an Inspiron laptop running Vista and want to move my podcast subscriptions (I have a lot of them) to the new installation of iTunes on the laptop.
I cannot find any instructions on how to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks. - Love my iPhone!

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. On a PC the default location is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\ (or C:\Username\Music\ in Vista). You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have and iPod, some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch): How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • How do I move my  itunes music library to a new computer?

I bought a new PC--Dell inspiron 530, running Windows Vista.
I need to transfer my itunes library (itunes 7) from my old computer which runs Windows XP.
I have a CD/DVD burning capability on the old computer.
I understand that there is a way to transfer that entire music library using CD/DVD, but I get conflicting information--one thing I've read tells me that I can only transfer music I've purchased fro the itunes Store; another article tells me I can transfer the entire library.
Does anybody have a step-by-step procedure to effect this type of transfer (moving the entire itunes library)?
Thanks very much for any assistance you can provide.

  • How do I move all my Firefox settings to a new computer.

My old pc is not working but I have the hard drive and access to all my files. all I am trying to do is move all my settings for Firefox...bookmarks, passwords and settings, to my new machine. I cannot do the sync, I cannot do a backup and restore as my old machine is not working....just want to move the appropriate files. I have moved my old profile to my new desktop. Running Windows 7 on old and new. Thanks!

Thanks but I have read that page. That page gives specfics about certain files to copy... When I installed Firefox on my new machine, it actually had one option to import settings from IE. But not firefox? My problem is not unique as I purchased a new computer, and am simply trying to migrate all the info to the new one. I know from the questions on this support site that this happens every day.... the page you referenced has things like:
    "Create a new Firefox profile
For information on how to create a brand new Firefox profile, please read the Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles article, paying specific attention to the Creating a profile section. "
If I was trying to create a "brand new profile" that would be helpful...but my issue is to move everything to the new pc. (the old pc no longer works so I cannot do a back up and restore...or a sync) The page you reference gives specifics on about 15 different things...do I need to do each one? for example...do I need to "create a new profile"?
Thanks for any help....this is really frustrating...I moved Thunderbird over and all the settings in about 10 minutes...just can't seem to find the solution here for Firefox.

  • How do I move my trial and catalogue to a new computer?

I have 18 days left on my Lightroom 5 trial.  I'm now using a new computer.  How do I access my trial and catalogue?  Thanks.

You can't move trials and you shouldn't attempt to move non-trials.... installing is the way to go to help insure proper performance.
If the trial is currently on your older machine, then it has the 18 days left.  If you install the trial on your new machine you are likely to have 30 days left.

  • How do I move my ipod and music to a new computer?

I just bought a macbook pro and I need to move my music and my iPod to the new Mac. When I tried to sync my ipod to the Mac it told me it was going to erase the iPod.
How do I move my Music and have my iPod sync with the new computer?

Copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you.
You can call Apple support and they will help you do it.

  • How can I move my preferences and extensions to a new computer? Have I done it successfully?

My old computer crashed. I've set up the new computer. I copied all the profile files/folders to the profile on the new computer in both the local and roaming folders.
Does this copy over my preferences and extensions? The help pages say they don't tell how to copy those since they can be the cause of problems. However, they weren't problems. So I want them copied. The extensions folder on the old computer was empty (I don't recall if It'd had any installed or just bookmarked some.) I remember making some specific preferences changes in that "advanced" file (that worked fine afterward.)
So with what I did, did I successfully copy everything over? If not - where are the extensions and preferences so that I can copy them over?
Bonus big question - is there a way to merge my old browsing history with the history on the new computer that I used for 10 days? Right now I set those 10 days as a separate profile, so I can save and go check it if I really need to.
    Thanks!

Take the good profile and copy it to the new computer. Also copy all
of your add-ons. On the new computer, start Firefox. Once it is running,
shut it down. Then transfer the information from the old profile to the new.
Thess add-ons can save all add-ons into a single folder for transfer.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

It will also make backup of files that you choose.

  • How can I move music from my iPod to my new computer if my computer can't SEE the music from the source?!?

I have read through lots of suggestions for moving my music from my iPod to my new computer...but can not seem to overcome a very difficult hurdle:
When I connect my very old iPod to my computer and click on the icon to open it, only 3 folders come up:  Calendars, Contacts and Notes.  I cannot "backup" anything useful here!
When I open iTunes, the program can see my iPod, and lists the complete library...but I cannot KEEP it in my computer!  WHY?!?
When I go to iTunes > File > Library, I do not get a "backup" option to use to backup my iPod music, either.
HELP, please.  I have spent hours fiddling around trying to figure out how to do this, and am getting crankier and crankier.
    Thanks in advance...

  • How do I move all my iphone information to a new computer/itunes without having access to me old computer/itunes including music which was not downloaded from itunes?

My itunes is 100miles away from me and I want to move all the information on my iphone to my new itunes on a new computer including music which has not been downloaded from itunes and all my apps. Please help as I am still on version 3.1.3.

You should be able to extract the media from the device with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That should switch the assocation of the device to the new machine but I've not had cause to personally test the method.

You can't move it. It has to be installed. Suggest that you deactivate on the old laptop via the Help menu in Editor, then follow the instructions on this tech note to install on the new machine.
