How do i move a word file into indesign

the only way I can think of to modify the leaders is to apply a Nested Style using GREP.  GREP is an advanced find feature which can located all the tabs and apply a character style to them.
Create a character style and only modify the font attributes; in your case you want to make the leaders less heavy, so reduce the font size to about 6pts (example).  I would also temporarily change the character colour so that you get a good preview of where the style is being applied (anything other than black.)
If you haven't already, create a Paragraph style for the text and apply it to all the text with the leader lines. You're probably better off placing your cursor in the text first when you create the paragraph style so that the current font attributes are absorbed into the new style.
In the Paragraph style's settings, you need to select GREP Style, then in the GREP dialog box click New GREP Style, Next to Apply Style, select your Character Stle, and delete the default To Text example and select the @ symbol and choose Tab.
By setting this up, GREP will apply your Character style with the smaller font to all the tab leaders.
Once you've applied your Paragraph style everywhere you can go back and modify the colour of the Character style back to Black.
