I was able to successfully move a few other files. Garageband, text edit and itunes were a breeze. Contacts are giving me a hard time!

Does she have any photos in the iPhoto library on her new machine?

The general answer is to trash the iPhoto library on the new computer (assuming it is empty) and drag the old iPhoto library to the pictures folder of the new machine and launch iPhoto letting it convert the library

Hi I hope someone can help. My girlfriend spilled soda on her 2008 macbook aluminium running Leopard , rendering it useless. She has since bought a new Macbook pro and would like to get her photos from iphoto onto her new comp. I've removed her harddrive from her old damaged computer and put it into an external USB enclosure, her new Macbook picks up the external hardrive but when I try to move the photo folder (drag) onto her new computer, it says something about the version of iphoto not being compatible. Also when i click on the photo folder on the external harddrive there are no photos on it. Any help would be appreciated, and would score me some brownie points with her .

That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

How do I move images from my external back to my computer?

Approx. 6-7 months ago I moved all my images to my external hard drive and worked from there. I've since upgraded to a much larger internal hard drive and want to move them back. I intially moved them via finder and Lightroom would say that the images are offline (obviously). I'm not quite certain how to point Lightroom to the files. What should I do?

2 prefered solutions:
Move the top level folder(s) from within LR (drag/drop each folder). This way, LR will keep track of the image locations
Move the top level folder(s) in finder, then open LR and chose "Find Missing Folder ..." on the top level folder(s) which show a "?".
Both options are best performed if you only have a few (best is one) top level folder with all your photos.

Perhaps the fastest and simplest way would be to just take both devices to the nearest AT&T corp. store and get them to do it. Then you can sync the iPhone with Contacts on your Mac (or outlook on your PC) or with iCloud to back them up for safekeeping.

In Outlook export the contacts as vCard files and then it just a matter of opening Address book and either importing them or you can drag them into the app.

I have setup icloud in my Iphone 6 running 8.1.2. and it is logged in by enabling Contacts in icloud settings. My contact list contains 1718 Contacts. I manually backed up my data into icloud including my contacts without Passbook & Documents data. But when i logged into iCloud.com to see the contacts it is not there.

I'm sorry to hear you of your issues with contacts being erased from your computer.

prior to my problem, I was using Microsoft Exchange for years to keep my contacts in my phone, so if i were to delete the exchange account, my contacts would go with it. I deleted my Microsoft Exchange account (copied all my contacts onto a spreadsheet beforehand) and was left with an empty phone except for a couple of contacts I had created on my iMac which transferred into my phone under "All from my my Mac". Now, I've attempted to manually input the contacts from the spreadsheet into my phone, which caused the contacts from my phone to sync into Contacts in my iMac. I want my contacts to sync into icloud, but i don't know how i can "move" them into iCloud. please help!

If you still have access to the exchange account, the easiest thing to do is add it to your phone (Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>Exchange, then turn Contacts on in the exchange account), then do the following on your phone to copy them to iCloud:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup. (If you have more than 500 contacts to copy from your exchange account you will need the “Pro” version.) Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from the exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself. Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap your exchange account account and delete it from your phone again (or at least turn Contacts off).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your account back to your iPhone, and to iCloud.
