How do I move library to new Mac with iTunes 8.0.2

I have a new MacBook with iTunes 8.0.2. I wish to move my iTunes library, with playlists, from my old iBook, which is running iTunes 6.0.3. The library for the old computer is stored on an external hard drive. I would like advice to accomplish this successfully.
Also, will my iPod have any problems with the new computer?
Thanks.

I'm also trying to move my music from old G4 computer (internal drive #3) to new MacPro System drive (#1). I copied all of Music Folder over to the MacPro. The songs play OK. The info for most CDs show up in the main window, but how do I get the Album list to show up on the left hand side Playlist like it did in the old computer? Many have no Album name since they are HS band recordings of my son's days in the band or songs I copied from old records. Thanks Terry

Update the iOS on your new iPhone first then restore the phone from your iCloud backup.

  • How to transfer movies to a new mac?

I was able to drag entire iPhoto library to same spot on new Mac. Then I opened iPhoto and it converted and resolved everything automatically.  Does iMovie work the same way?  If so, do I drag the entire "Movies" folder, which on my machine has a whole bunch of stuff in it, unlike iPhoto library which is locked.

When I did this, I attached a SuperDuper! bootable backup of my old system. You could also connect your old Mac directly in Target Mode. Then I ran Migration Assistant, and it brought everything over.
An alternate way to accomplish this would be to use iMovie to move all Projects and all Events to the external drive. I would suggest first moving the Projects with Command-Drag (see iMovie help). Then use the FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA command to bring over events, photos, and music. Then go back and check to see if you have any Events that were not moved. This would be the case if they were not used in any project. You would move these by Command-Dragging to the external hard disk in iMovie.
Then you can use the media on the external drive on your new Mac, or move it to your new Mac as you prefer.

  • How do I move iPhoto to new mac

    Software application, and photos, etc.

You don't move the software. That will come with the new mac, or you can install it - for free - from the Mac App store.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How do I move photoshop to new mac and keep my downloaded fonts?

    Hi there.
I am planning to buy a new MacBook very soon and am beginning to sort out all my files in preparation. I currently have Adobe Photoshop CS and have quite a few fonts on there that I have downloaded and would like to transfer everything to my new laptop without losing my fonts. How do I do this? I would be using an external hard drive to transfer files.
    Thank you!

The migration assistant that will run when you first start up your new Mac will step you through how to transfer everything from your old Mac. You don't even need an external hard drive, but you will need either a network cable, a FireWire cable or a Thunderbolt cable, depending on what your old Mac has available.

  • HT1386 How do I sync library on new computer with old iPhone

When I bought my iPhone, I was required by my company to sync with my work computer.  Of course, by iTunes library is on my home computer.
I am no longer with the company so I do not have access to that computer.  Now I want to sync my iPhone with my home computer so I can have my songs on the iPhone.  I have not figured out how to do that.  Is it simply a matter of resetting the iPhone?  Any other way?  Help is appreciated!  Thanks.

    This guide should help: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.

  • Transferring iTunes 6 Library to new iMac with iTunes 7

This is probably very easy. But, I wanted to make sure it would work before I start moving things around, etc.
I upgraded to a new iMac recently and I would like to use my old iTunes library (on an external firewire HD) in iTunes 7. Basically, I'd like to keep all of my music on the external HD and use it solely as an iTunes drive like i did with my old G4. So, I would go under Preferences and tell iTunes to look on the external HD for all of the music files. And, in order to get all of my playlists, ratings, etc. back, I would need to copy my old iTunes Library xml file over into my new Music folder, replacing the existing one. Right?
Here is my question...I was still using iTunes 6 on my old G4 because it didn't handle 7 very well. So, my old iTunes library xml files are iTunes 6 files. Will iTunes 7 be able to recognize an iTunes 6 xml file? Will it simply prompt me to upgrade it to a shiny new iTunes 7 file?

Cool! Thank you so much for the quick response.
So, just to be clear, what I will need to do is...
    1. open iTunes.
    2. under preferences redirect it to the music folder on my external drive.
    3. Close iTunes.
    4. drag my old xml file into the iTunes folder on the iMac (it will ask me if I want to replace the existing...i say yes...)
    5. Open iTunes and all of my old playlists, etc. should be there.
    Is that correct?

  • How do i move my photobooth photos from my old mac to my new mac with lion os

have tons of photos in my older version of photobooth, how do i migrate them to new mac with lion os. looked everywhere but can't find an answer.

It's actually very simple. In your old AB under the file menu click "Export Address Book Archive to your desktop. Then using the new system log in to the old via network and move the file from the old to the new.
Then open the new AB and click import AB archive"
    You're done

You don't need to delete anything from your phone or you old computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer or backup to /Music/ on new computer.
If you cannot use the old computer or don't have a backup...
-> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Then immediately make a backup of your new computer.
Get an external drive and plug it in and use -> Time Machine

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • How can I sync my iPhone music to my new Mac with out loosing my the music I already have in the phone?

Bought a new Mac and iTunes won't let me sync new music to my phone because I used to sync it in my old Mac.  How can I sync with the new PC with out loosing the music I already have in my phone?

Copy everything from your old computer to your new one then sync.
Iphone will sync with one library/computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content.

  • I have purchased a movie on a new Mac

I have purchased a movie on a new Mac and it is in the cloud however I can't access it on my old Mac. The older Mac does not have the right operating system to use the cloud and it doesn't appear in itune. How can iget it out of the cloud and into iTunes

I don't have iCloud but I do have an older Mac.  Can you get the song off iCloud and onto your new Mac as a file?  You could then reveal the location of the file with command+R and copy that file to your other Mac with a flash drive.  Then add it to iTunes there.  I only hope the version of iTunes there supports movie formats and authorization.  You don't give us any information about the other Mac, and it is helpful to know the general hardware and operating system and iTunes versions used when asking this kind of question.
