How do I move pages within a document?

I have a manual I created for work and I want to reorder the pages. I want a move a section to the beginning but when I try to move the pages, it moves multiple pages at once. There is a yellow box surrounding the pages affected. I don't know how to change or remove the box.
THanks in advance!

You may only move a section (as indictaed by the yellow border) as a whole.
Sections are separated by section breaks. So if you want to further divide your book, insert a Section Break as needed.
Text flows from page to page in a Word Processing document, it is unrealistic to think of them as random pieces of paper to be shuffled on whim. That would have the same effect as tearing out individual pages in a real book and pasting them in somewhere else.

  • How to insert a page within a document

    I need to insert an additional page within a document without reformatting my layout.
    How do I do that?
    --- So far "Insert" > "sections" > "text page or blank" puts the additional page at the end of the doument.
    Tips anyone?

    Luanne,
    When you Insert a Section from the Add Section tool or the Insert Menu, the new section will be inserted directly after the current section, the section that the Insertion Cursor is in, or the Section Selected in the Thumbnails pane.
    You can't insert a new section in the middle of an existing section, so it goes at the end of a 1-section document, which is what I would guess you have, a 1-section document. What you probably should do is insert a Section Break at the point where yiu want to add a section or page. Or forget about adding a Section and just Insert a Page Break there.

  • How can I move photos within my documents??

    When I insert my photos into my documents, I cannot reposition them as I want. They are all left justified, if you will and when I drag them, they simply snap back to their original position. In the Inspector Metrics pane, the x y coordinates are not active even if the photo is selected, which I do not believe should be the case.
    According to Pages Help, I should be able to reposition an image after I insert it but I am not able to do this.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    It sounds like your photos are inline. Select one & then choose floating from either the wrap inspector or the format bar.

    But you are telling me something I already know.
    Be precise.
    It is not Pages '09 that is broken.
    I am back in Mavericks and testing Pages 5.2.
    There are improvements, we shall see how useful, but in less than a minute I have already discovered bugs.

  • How do I move photos within a journal (ie from 1 page to another) in iPhoto

    How do I move photos within a journal (ie from 1 page to another) in iPhoto

    iPhoto is not very smart with multiple photos...
    I don't think you can move multiple photos and I suggest the following turnaround, using the "combine pages" option mentioned in my previous reply.
    Create a blank page that you move next to the page(s) where the photos you want to move are;
    then move your pictures there one by one (use the new page as a temporary parking space),
    then merge this new page were you want to move the multiple pictures, using the "combine pages".
    This would save time if your journal has many pages, so you don't have to move each photo through multiple pages but just to the next/previous page.
    I just made this up but I tried it and it works!

  • When I move pages from one document to another, it creates a new alternate layout.

    Hello,
    I'm having an issue with combining some documents. Usually I use the "move pages" command and tell the pages to integrate with another document. However, because of the new alternate layout feature, both documents have the default layouts as "Letter V". So when I move pages from one document to the end of another, it creates a new alternate layout labeled "Letter V2" and "Letter V3" etc. Is there a way to make the pages just go into the main layout of Letter V without creating a new alternate layout? How do I merge alternate layouts created in the integrated document? All documents are the same page size and orientation.
    Thank you kindly,
    Sheena

    Petrill,
    Thank you. I was trying to do that yesterday, but it was grayed out. It seemed to work alright today.

  • HT5534 How can I switch pages in the document?

    How can I move pages between them. For example: Page number 10 is placed between page 4 and 5? And if I do not need a page, how can I remove it?
    Sincerely,
    Adam.

    You just gave two versions which one do you want to do this in?
    You can largely forget it in Pages 5.01.
    If you divide your document with Section Breaks in Pages '09, you can simply drag the thumbnails into place.

  • [CS3 JS]  Move pages from one document to another?

    First, a brief explanation of what I am trying to do. I have several individual chapters that I am including in an INDD book. However, I also want to be able to allow those individual chapters to stand alone, meaning that I want to add a cover/title page to each chapter file (these two pages would be placed before the current page 1 of each chapter).
    My preference would be to write a script that would open the cover/tp file and open the first chapter file; this part is no problem. Where I am running into trouble however, is the second step: moving the cover/tp pages (2 pages) over into the chapter file.
    Manually, I would open Cover.indd, activate the "move pages" menu, "Move pages: 1-2", "Destination: Before_Page 1", "Move to: Chapter1.indd".
    With over 100 chapters in the book, however, I would prefer to automate the process. I have looked into the Page.move and PageItem.move elements, but both look like they would require a location in the current document (either in (x,y) form or using "AT_BEGINNING".
    If I cannot get this to work, I will likely try to insert two blank pages, then cut/paste with a script, but I would prefer the "move" functionality, if it is possible.
    A couple of answers to potential questions:
    I can't simply place the INDD cover file b/c it uses a text variable to pull the chapter name; this personalizes each stand-alone chapter.
    Same answer to why I can't just slap the 2-page .pdf on the front of each. I need the text variable to still be active.
    Has anyone tried to move pages from one document to another using scripting? I tried to explain what I am trying to do, but if it doesn't make sense, I can try again. :)
    thanks!
    Matt

    ok here we are
    I get a raw skeleton that you will have to adjust but it's functional.
    Use a PDF for placement as you can specify the page that you want to place.
    I don't know if you can do the same for indesign files.
    So basically, it starts adding 2 pages and placeing the pdf in the same time.
    After that, it creates the textVariable and the frame that will receive it.
    Here you are:
    //If a document is open
    if(app.documents.length!=0)
    var ad = app.activeDocument;
    //Pages placement
    for(i=0; i<2; i++)
    //Add 2 pages on top of the document;
    var tmpPg = ad.pages.add(LocationOptions.BEFORE, ad.pages[0]);
    //Here you place your pdf
    app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = i;
    tmpPg.place(File(cover.pdf), false)
    //You should specify page x and page y but ain't found yet the way to go.
    //Text variable creation
    //Check if the textVariable named "txtVar" does not already exist...
    if(ad.textVariables.item("txtVar")==null)
    //if not found, create the text variable named "txtVar"
    var txtVar = ad.textVariables.add();
    txtVar.variableType =VariableTypes.CUSTOM_TEXT_TYPE;
    txtVar.name = "txtVar";
    //Set the contents of the text variables to the string "test"
    ad.textVariables.item("txtVar").variableOptions.contents = "test";
    //these coordinates don't care aboutyour units but you may adjust them to your needs
    var y1 = ad.marginPreferences.left;
    var x1 = ad.marginPreferences.top;
    var y2 = y1+5;
    var x2 = x1+25;
    var myFrame = ad.pages[0].textFrames.add({geometricBounds:[y1,x1,y2,x2]});
    //Set the contents of the frame to the text variables "txtVar"
    myFrame.contents=ad.textVariables.item("txtVar").variableOptions.contents;
    //You may want to stylize the txtVar
    //In this case, either you use a existing characterStyle or you create one in the script

    How do I move pages in the thumnb nail view. This was available in previous versions. Can't do it in the new version.

    Pages v5+ is Apple's version of, “Who moved my cheese?”
    This is a brand new 64-bit rewrite redesign of the prior version. It isn't that they malevolently removed 100+ features that were user productivity habits — it is due to the fact that they haven't had time to restore 8 years of Pages evolution back into the application. The end result is the same. A largely useless product.
    It is anyone's guess what schedule priority and functionality Apple will follow with future application updates. For starters, they should set the version back to 1.0, if for no other reason, than to create an even greater cosmos between Apple Marketing and fact.
    There is no point going further. Peter has shared clarity. Apple is lost in its own funhouse of mirrors regarding desktop applications.
