How do I move storage to computer so I can free up space?

I have very little space left on my phone in order to do my download.  I have deleted some apps, and I purchased more space.  I have 19.5GB available on the cloud, but only 23MB available for updates.  What should I do?

iCloud storage is for back ups so thats nothing to worry about. Go to Settings>General>Usage to see what is taking up lots of room.
If you have a lot of photos & videos in your camera roll then you can import them to your computer and delete them from your phone afterwards to make more room:

  • HT201317 How do I move photos from iPhone to iCloud to free up space on iPhone?

My wife has a ton of photos on her phone which is preventing her from updating some apps and other things because her phone is out of storage space.  How can she move it to her iCloud account so she can delete it from her phone?  She still wants to easily access the photos from her iPhone.

You do not store photos on icloud for archiving.  You do this by syncing photos onto a computer.  icloud will store backups of camera roll photos, but that's only good to you if your device somehow "dies" and you must restore everything back on it.  You can't selectively restore just photos from icloud.

  • How do i move itunes to external hard drive to free up space on my imac

I keep running out of space on my imac (320mb)
I have my movies on a Lacie hard drive.
How do I put itunes on the hard drive?
    Thanks

iTunes has many components.  The two main ones are the application itself (which is what ones means when ones says "iTunes") and the library which is a set of files and folders.  I take it you want to move the iTunes library (you cannot run iTunes the application off a non-boot drive).

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.
My one hesitation regarding the above is it sounds like you already have some things on the external drive and you have not shared with us the details of your setup.  You have already modified itunes from its standard behavior and this can sometimes introduce problems.

    Authorization
iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

How to I delete messages(Saved) so that I can create enough space for my update?

If by "update" you mean you are trying to update iOS, then the way to do this is to use iTunes on your computer to perform the update.
Plug your iPhone into (the current version of) iTunes on your computer.  Let it sync.  Then do "Check for Updates" from the iPhone's summary page in iTunes.

  • How do I move ITunes Library to External with only 5GB of space on Internal Drive without getting Space issue message when Consolidate library option is executed?

    Details:
    250 GB Internal Hard Drive
    50 GB iTunes Library
1 TB External Drive w/ 153 GB of Open Space that is Partioned
    Steps followed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
I get Stuck on Step 11 Consolidate Files to new external drive location with Error message: Not enough space to move files.
This makes no sense Apple. The purpose in doing this is to free up space on my internal drive?
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm stuck and can't seem to resolve or find any suggestions to resolve...

Don't use that method.  It does move the whole library, it just moves the media.  The whole library is best left intact.

  • How do I move iPhoto pics to external HD to free up hard drive space, then how to back up external HD

I currently have 2 iPhoto Libraries on my 2010 MacBook Pro.  Photo count is in tens of thousands, and hard drive needs them to go away so it can work faster.  Nervous about moving photos to external HD.  I currently back up entire computer to 1 external HD via Time Machine.  Just purchased another bigger external HD for purpose of moving iPhoto libraries to it.
However, Genius Bar told me to drag and drop folders to folders I create on new HD and NOT move iPhoto Library file itself because those were only "copies" of the images.  If I want to keep the real images, I should move folder by folder and group by year.
I'm just totally confused.  I still want to be able to use iPhoto to organize and edit my photos.  I THINK I can do that by moving the entire iPhoto library folder from my Pictures folder to the external and then launching iPhoto by holding down Option key.  But, how do I back up the back up?

However, Genius Bar told me to drag and drop folders to folders I create on new HD and NOT move iPhoto Library file itself because those were only "copies" of the images.  If I want to keep the real images, I should move folder by folder and group by year.
Genius bar is not very genius in this case.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Backing Up.
Remember a back up is a copy on another disk (at least). So, you'll need one disk to hold your Library and another to back that up to. You can use Time Machine if you want to. Chronosync or SuperDuper are also excellent alternatives.

How do I move purchased movies from itunes to the icloud?  I only want them off my laptop (library), as I need more space.  I want to keep them on the ipad they have been moved to.

    Patti23 wrote:

Delete them from the local computer.  Nothing gets moved.  If the content was purchased from iTunes it should be available for download again in the future.
    Patti23 wrote:

If the device is synced with iTunes on the computer and the content is deleted from iTunes it will also be removed from the device.
Realistically, if you want to keep the content, keep it stored locally.  Purchase an external drive to store the content on.  Keep in mind that iOS devices are NOT backup devices, they merely mirror the content in the iTunes library on the computer.
