Are you sure it's not 6.1.6? If it is, that is the latest iOS version that will work on a 4th generation iPod Touch. Later versions require a 5G iPod which has twice as much RAM.

You see songs that are on your iPod by selecting 'songs' in the iPod main menu.
Not sure where deleted songs from the PC comes into it, so you might need to explain further. -
You used to be able to shuffle a playlist and see the order in which the songs would sync into your iPod. I haven't been able to figure that out. Can anyone help me?
With your playlist in "List view", click on the header over the column of numbers all the way to the left. This will then reveal the true playback (and sync) order.
However, the sort order in iTunes may not agree with the sort order on your device, but that is a separate issue and seems to have too many variables to go into here. -

I had redownload itunes because I had to get a new harddrive for my computer. Some of the songs from my ipod are not purchased from itunes. They are from cds and songs I have downloaded from the computer. How do I keep those from being erased when I sync my ipod onto itunes?

I bought some songs off of itunes and the songs synced onto my ipod CLASSIC but they didnt sync into my ipod TOUCH. I have tried authorizing and deauthorizing my laptop, updating softwares but nothing works. Anyone know why this is happening?!?!?!
Hi,
The songs need to be in the playlist(s) that go onto the ipod touch.
Plug the ipod touch into the computer and go to the music section of it from the devices menu. From here make sure that the playlist(s) that go on to this ipod are the ones that have the new songs.
Once this is done, click sync/apply.

I was previously using my grandfather's laptop and all my iPod data is synced to that, I have now bought a new laptop and want to sync it to the new one. You cannot sync it from the ipod to the computer as I explained in the previous post, unless it is itunes purchased music. -
