How do I not close 2 tabs at once.

I want to thank ZZXC ? for his help when I was talking to him. My laptop battery died before I could do so. Unfortunately his suggestion CTRL W did not work.

You can middle-click a Tab to close that tab.<br />
If a plugin has focus then shortcut keys will not work and you need to click elsewhere first.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• How to have a close tab button when you have only one tab ?

I'm using FF 24.0 on Win 7 enterprise x64.
I would like to have an option to have a close tab button ("x") when you have only one tab.
Is this possible ? How ?
If not how to submit a feature request ? I did it 10+ times with feedback but didn't see any change.
Thanks

Thanks again for the "close button" addon advice. I tried it but no luck, the close button doesn't appear on tabs but in the toolbar (which I do not display).
So the problem remains for me.

• I have looked all over on how to get the close tab x back on the tabs including disabling all addon, safemode, and about config value fix but cannot get x's back on tab. What next?

Title says it all.

Look at the pref browser.tabs.closeButtons on the <b>about:config</b> page.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.tabs.closeButtons
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See:
* Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Try this; close ALL PROGRAMS, then turn off the phone.
Open it and remove the battery. Leave it out for a slow count of 10.
Then put everything back together and try again.
BUT, do not start anything but Firefox.

• Dynamic Tab UI Shell - close tab action & number of open tabs control

Hi,
I browsed through the forum, but could not get hold of any concrete solution for the question on how to capture the close tab action event and perform some action on that?
The below thread discusses my question but does not appear to have a proper solution
Re: Dynamic Tab UI Shell: controlling the Close icon
And one other question is, currently in the TabContext the number of open tabs is set to 15 limit. How can I override that such that I do not allow more than 7 tabs open at a time?
Please help me with the above two queries. Thanks !
Regards,
SS

Sorry for so much delay. Finally, got some time to play with the template and downloading the dynamicTabTemplate source code and overriding the closeIcon worked like a charm.
Let me summarize what I did to help someone who is looking for this :)
1) Downloaded the source code for dynamicTabTemplate
2) Added and additional attribute closeTab to the template
+<attribute>+
+<attribute-name>closeTab</attribute-name>+
+<attribute-class>java.lang.String</attribute-class>+
+<required>+
true
+</required>+
+</attribute>+
2) edited the dynamicTabShell.jspx, closeIcon commanlink actionListener to be bound to "#{viewScope.tabContext.closeIcon}"
3) Implemented the closeIcon method in TabContext
+@Override+
+public void closeIcon(ActionEvent actionEvent) {+
CloseIconInterface bean = getBean();
bean.closeIcon(actionEvent);
+}+
4) Generated the jar.
5) Removed the oracle provided default dynamicTabTemplate jar and instead added my custom generated jar to the application
6) Applied the new template
7) Set all the attributes along with the new closeTab attribute. This would take the BackingBean name...example: <f:attribute name="closeTab" value="#{xxxScope.xxxBean}"/>
8) Made xxxBean to implement CloseTabInterface
9) Implemented the closeIcon method with custom code to confirm page close before removing the Tab.
However like you said, i'll keep tab on future updates to the default tab template updates to not miss any bug fixes or enhancements.
Thanks everyone who looked into this for me and Hope this helps someone else :)...Good luck !

• Tabs d0 not close on exit; when restarted, last-used tabs automatically open. How to I close ALL TABS on exit so that nothing re-opens when Firefox 4 is started?

All last-used tabs remain "visible" and do not close automatically on exit from Firefox 4. This means that when a new session is started, the last-used tab (website) automatically opens. How can ALL TABS be closed on exit from Firefox?

Go to Tools | Add-ons | Plugins ans disable "My Web Search". This program is spyware and will cause you all sorts of problems. After you disable it, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.

• Often with 2 or 3 tabs/websites open, the tab does not have the X on the right side to close it. I have to right clock and hit Close Tab. Seems random. How can I assure all tabs have the X?

Sometimes when I have 2 or more websites open, the tabs for them do not have the"X" on the right end that I can click to close them. Others right next to it may have the X or not - it seems random. The only way to close the x-less tabs is to right click and select Close tab. How do I tweak it so there are always X's? The only relevant add-on I can think of is Colorful Tabs, and I have the latest version of it.

If you are not new to browsers, you would probably prefer the single "X" at the far right of the tabs bar to close the active tab, but in any case your choices are described for the configuration option of browser.tabs.closeButtons, see

• There is no longer a "close tab" under the file menu, so how do I go back to a previous page when the back button will not work?

Often the back button will not work. I can find no "close tab" under the menus, which I think used to be there, and which is used with Internet Explorer to go to the previous page. How can I go back to the previous page with Firefox when the back button will not work?

No you can't. Apple don't support downgrading of iOS.

• Close tab groups actually closes tabs rather than just the grouping. How do I recover all tabs, not just the last 10? Pages and tabs are not in recent history.

I had a problem with tab groups - if I mistakenly close tab groups, I can only recover the last 10 tabs.
I had a window with many more than 10 tabs which I reopened each session by going to History > Recently Closed Windows. I knew this was risky - I could lose this if I did not keep it in an open window or recently closed window. So I was looking for a way to save this window with all the tabs. I looked into tab groups and, not knowing what I was doing, I closed the groups of tabs. There seems to be no recovery for other than the last 10 tabs. And open tabs are not necessarily in recent history if I have not accessed the tab and refreshed.

I don't use tab groups myself, but I know of a way to increase the number of closed tabs that Firefox remembers. Unfortunately, it's not retroactive...
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the following preferences and enter the preferred new value:
(A) browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo (default: 10)
(B) browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo (default: 3)
Regarding what is in history, by default, Firefox will load tabs on demand when you restore a session, rather than loading every single tab immediately. If you turned off that setting, or if you visited all the tabs, then those pages should be in history, but finding them amidst all the others would be quite a challenge...

• How can I only close one tab, not two or more tabs at a time?

I would like to be able to close one tab, and go back to my email or original page, but I only get the message that I will close all tabs. I would like to be able to close one tab, and go back to the previous tab that I have open, not have to go back and sign in to my email when it should still be open. This works with Internet Explorer, why can it not work with Firefox?

The dialog Firefox displays when you click the "close window" (X) button doesn't have the option to only close the current tab. Instead, you can use one of these methods to close just the current tab:
* Click the "x" that should appear on the current tab itself
* Right-click the current tab > Close tab
* Press Ctrl+w to close the current tab
(Note: If you accidentally press Ctrl+w twice, you can re-open the tab by pressing Ctrl+Shift+t to Undo Close Tab)

• I would like to close one tab at a time rather than all tabs at once. How do I change this? Right now i am given only one choice "close"

I have installed Mazilla firefox. Since then I am having to close all open tabs at once, thereby having to start over at the website. I would like to have the option to close one or all tabs when I elect to close.

Hello,
To close all tabs only close Firefox, do this by clicking on the X at the top right of the window, to close one tab just click on the x at the tab.

• How to close tabs that will not close?

After being on several sites I am unable to close tabs that I am done with. Started a couple weeks ago.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

• Clinking on the X does not close the Tab

Recently I had to run the Loaris Trojan remover to get rid of something that hijacked my home page and search engine. I also had to reset the Firefox defaults. Somewhere in there I lost the ability to close a Tab by clicking on the X. The X is there but it does no close the Tab when I click on it. The only way I can close Tabs is to completely Exit Firefox and relaunch.
How do I restore closing Tabs?

Did you try the safe mode option ?
Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Thank you.

• How to restrict closing the tab in tabpane after clicking the close button.

Hi all,
Greetings.
I am implementing a TabPane with different 'user form's in each Tab. And all the tabs are *'closable'*.
If the user enters some data in the form, and tries to close the tab without saving the form , i need to show a confirm dialogue box that the user should go ahead or not.
If he clicks cancel, the tab should not close.
But currently i am searching for a method something like 'setOnClosing' method for tab.
There is only tab.setOnClosed() method, which will call the event after closing the tab.
Some thing the code is like below.
tab.setOnClosed(new EventHandler<javafx.event.Event>() {
         @Override
         public void handle(javafx.event.Event e) {
            // TODO: Actions to be taken on close of tab.
               // Logic to show the confirm dialouge box.
               //  if YES - close the tab
               //  if NO - don't close the tab.
});But my logic is executing after closing the tab. (ofcourse, as it is on setOnClosed() ;) ). Can anyone tell me how to get control before closing the tab ?
Thanks in Advance.
Sai Pradeep Dandem.

Hi All,
Finally I managed to get the handler before closing the tab pane. :)
Though this is a bit weird work around, my requirement is fulfilled at-least.
Let me explain the workaround I did.
Tab tab = new Tab(title);
tab.setClosable(false); // This line of code  makes sure that the “default” close button of the tab is not appeared.
setClosableButton(tab);Then I am setting the custom close button as a graphic to the label ( Title of the tab), and aligning that graphic position to make an effect, that it is rendered exactly at the position of “Close” button.
From this Custom Close Button, I am handling the events and if confirmed I am closing the tab manually, by calling the closeTab() method in the TabPaneBehavior class.
Below is the code that is implemented as per the above logic.
          * Method to set the custom Closable Button to the given tab.
          * @param tab - Tab
         private void setClosableButton(final Tab tab,final boolean closeCheck){
              final StackPane closeBtn = new StackPane(){
                   @Override
                   protected void layoutChildren() {
                        super.layoutChildren();
                        // Setting the orientation of graphic(button) to the right side.
                        ((Label)((LabelSkin)getParent()).getSkinnable()).setStyle("-fx-content-display:right;");
              closeBtn.getStyleClass().setAll(new String[] { "tab-close-button" });
              closeBtn.setStyle("-fx-cursor:hand;");
              closeBtn.setPadding(new Insets(0,7,0,7));
              closeBtn.visibleProperty().bind(tab.selectedProperty());
              final EventHandler<ActionEvent> closeEvent = new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
                   @Override
                   public void handle(ActionEvent paramT) {
                        ((TabPaneSkin)TabPaneComponent.this.getSkin()).getBehavior().closeTab(tab);
              // Handler for the close button.
              closeBtn.setOnMouseReleased(new EventHandler<MouseEvent>() {
                   @Override
                   public void handle(MouseEvent paramT) {
                        // My logic to handle the close event or not.
                                    if( logic satisfied){
                             closeEvent.handle(null);
                                    }else{
                                           // Dont close the tab.
              // Showing the close button if the tab is selected.
              tab.selectedProperty().addListener(new ChangeListener<Boolean>() {
                   @Override
                   public void changed(ObservableValue<? extends Boolean> paramObservableValue,Boolean paramT1, Boolean isSelected) {
                        if(isSelected){
                             tab.setGraphic(closeBtn);
                        }else{
                             tab.setGraphic(null);
         }There are some drawbacks in the above code. In practice, it is suggested not to use the classes (*LabelSkin* & TabPaneSkin) that are in com.sun.javafx package. But I couldn’t get a better solution other than using those classes. And another one is I could'nt set the actual graphic for tab, as i am already using that graphic property to show the close button.
I would like to thank Narayan, for giving some inputs which has helped me to think and get the above solution. :)

• I upgraded yesterday so why is the "close tab" no longer on the File menu? How do I close one tab without exiting Firefox?

the "close tab" option is not on the File drop-down menu today. It was before I upgraded yesterday to the new version of firefox. So how do I close one tab?

Ctrl W did the trick and I think I should be able to remember that. Right click menu when the document or site is open on the screen doesn't work, but it does from the taskbar menu above. Either way, I know what to do now. Thank you.
