How do I NOT connect to a foreign WLAN?

Hello,
Sometimes, when my MacBook is up before my WLAN becomes active, AirPort connects to one of my neighbours' WLAN.
Is there any way to mark that SSID or ethernet address as undesired so that AirPort won't connect to it automatically anymore?
Thx a lot for any kind of help!
Jürgen

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Open System Preferences (or whatever it's called on the German version). Select the Network panel. Select your AirPort connection item. Uncheck "As to join new networks". Click the "Advanced" button. Select the "AirPort" tab if it's not already selected. In the "Preferred Networks" list select each of those "foreign" networks and click the "-" sign to delete then. Finally, click the "OK" button.

  • How can we not connect to the Internet?

Hi! My question is kind of different from others. Most people try to connect to the Internet, but I'm trying to prevent the connection. Hope some one can answer my question.
Due to concerns on parental control, I need to limit the kid's use of the Internet. I've set the access restriction on my router, so my kid is allowed to be on-line only in certain days and times. However, her computer is equippted with an AirPort Card, and it allows her to connect to another wireless base rather than ours. Which then makes my effort in vain. So, how can I block her wireless connection to other bases, so she can connect to the Internet through our router only in permitted hours?
Her computer is MacBook Pro. 17-in with OS X TIger
    Thanks.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

In the Airport network preferences, click on the Options button and select "Require administrator password to: change wireless networks." You can also set "If no recent networks are found:" to "Keep looking for recent networks." Change the preference to automatically join networks to preferred networks and remove the neighbor's network from the list.
You may try experimenting with the first setting as, being that this is a laptop, it might be nice to be able to connect to a wifi hotspot. I think the preferred network option with the Keep looking option may accomplish this. However, you would have to add the hotspots as the administrator. i.e. physically go there and add it to the preferred networks list.
When you are done configuring, click the lock to lock those settings.
I have never tried any of these things, so I don't know how they will functionally work. I based it all on what the options said and the help files.

  • 3502 access point will not connect to 4400 Series WLAN controller

I recently upgraded our controllers to the latest version 7 software, as I read this was one of the requirements to get them to connect.  But I am not having any luck getting into a controller.  Normally I plug them in to the network, they pop into the controller listed as something like AP5057.a844.xxxx and then I can finish configuring them, but a static IP on them, etc...
This is the first of this model AP I have tried to deploy, so I am wondering what is different with these. or what I might be missing in the default config in the WLAN controllers.
Niether of which are set to "Master" either.
    Thanks in advance, Tandrist

    Hi,
The 3500 as you mention are supported on code 7.0
To get the access point to join the WLC we have different options.
If the access points will be on the same subnet as the WLC then you just need to get the APs to get a valid IP address from the DHCP server and once they have an IP address they will join the WLC because they are on the same subnet as the WLC.
If the access points are on a different subnet then the WLC you will need to have a DHCP server configured to give the unit an IP address and use option 43 or DNS so that the APs can send the join request to the correct WLC on a different subnet.
Or if not configure the AP via the console port with the static IP address and WLC IP address.
Also make sure that you have the correct country code enable on the WLC, and that the APs you purchased are the ones to work in this country, because if not the AP will not join the WLC.

    Hi Samantha,
In order to connect UWL you can go ahead with creating  a system with Load Balancing.
After that go to the Universal Worklist option under the system configuration.
Provide the details of your system and register it. do not forgot to provide a system configuration group.
After registering the system go ahead to the Universal Worklist iview and provide the system configuration group name.
That;s it your worklist is configured. Check the preview and you will be able to see the workflow e-mails over there.
If you need a document regarding the configuration please drop your e-mail address over here.
    Hope this helps!

The first one says that my @mac.com account: "Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server." How do I fix this? Is this caused by the way I have set my preferences? Is this related to joing iCloud? Or my ISP Verizon the problem?
The second one says in reference to my Apple Server: "Could not connect to this STMP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account perferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL checkbox in the Advanced tabe of Account preferences." How can I get connected to Icloud?

    Hello pmarrone,
You may only sign up for an iCloud account via one of the following systems or devices.
You can sign up for iCloud on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later, or through System Preferences on a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later. Just follow the setup instructions for your iOS device or Mac.

  • My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet".How can I change ip address?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • How on earth could I be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when it is not connected to anything?

I'm not entirely displeased with the situation but I cannot see how I could be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when the Airport is not connected to anything.
    Weird huh?
I have a separate non- Airport wireless network connected to the Internet.  I had previously set-up the Airport to link with this network but disconnected it (by resetting it) as music streaming was unlistenable due to frequent drop out.  I now just have the Airport Express as a standalone wireless network only connecting to the stereo to stream music from devices.
My devices are only connected to the Airport network with cellular data off. Yet I can still connect to the Internet AND listen to streaming music (without drop-out no less).
I don't want to fix it but I would like to know how the frag it could happen so i don't screw it up accidentally.

I would say you still have something of the previous setup.
To be sure you don't mess up, save the configuration.. go to the top menu area of the airport utility and export configuration.. which will land on your computer.
Now you can recover at anytime to the current setup.
How it works.. that is magical ..
Open the airport utility.. edit.. and take a screenshot and post it of the following pages..

THen we can tell you how it is working.

My MacBook Air 13' (2013) will occasionally start the fan at full blast, not connect to any wifi or detect any wifi, and will remove the battery icon from my menu bad as well as tell me there is no battery connected. How do I fix this? I have restarted my computer multiple times, **** it down, and ran a diagnostic test to tell me nothing is wrong and my computer is not running any applications. There is no reason for the fan to be on full blast! when I try to set the option to show my battery icon in the menu bar, it will automatically uncheck. How do I fix all of this?

when i click on safari to use the internet it says "safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet", but i am connected to a wifi network so how do i get safari to work?

you may be connected to the wireless network but the question is the internet working properly on the wireless network...
what i mean is that i can make a wireless network without the internet so i can save and share files and have other devices connected to the same network access them... but you have to make sure that your internet it running properly... may have to reconfigure the router is your using PPPOE or if it was working prior to your post then try to restart your modem... that usually resolves most issues.

    Hello Beckieor,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning network issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you changed your email address and iCloud is looking to sign in with the old Apple ID email. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
