How do I obtain administrative privileges in order to download software ? I am trying to download Garmin Maps for my Garmin Nuvi 260W. Thank you.

Thanks Eric. I am the user administrator plus there is a guest user. However, when I attempt to download Garmin Express installer an apple box appears requesting my Apple Id and password and when I enter this nothing happens and when I cancel this I get a message stating that I need administrative privileges to install the software . Any assistance which you could give me would be greatly appreciated as it is very frustrating when I am unable to download maps from Garmin when I have previously purchased lifetime maps.

I could not find the log in "\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers", it only shows log file from my previous installation of Adobe CS3.
I can see this file \Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\PDApp.log with some errors like

On an iLife 08 or newer DVD.
He's referring to the boxed disk for iLife 08, 09 or 11. All contain iDVD 7. You can the iLife 11 disc here: Amazon.com: iLife 11 (assuming you're in the States). Otherwise check the Amazon.com for your location.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

There is no serial number and you don't need one. What you need for a subscription is to SIGN IN within Acrobat, so it knows the subscriptions you own.

I can't get around this issue. Honestly, I could never really sync my BB Storm to my PPC Mac. Now, after upgrading to Leopard, I get this error:
"The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges."
I AM the administrator. I've repaired permissions. Don't know where else to go.

I watched "a" for the first time last week. It wasn't bad, but I don't know what all the fuss is.
So far I have managed to lead a relatively full and productive life without ever using "b" (even though it is installed on my computer because I had to get M$ Awffice for work). Don't ever let anybody tell you you need it.
AFAIK the only way to get it is to go out and buy M$ Awffice, and if you get the le$$ expen$ive "Home and Student Edition," you get a stripped down version of Entourage that M$ Exchange servers won't even talk to and doesn't support Web services. The full version of Awffice will set you back $399.95 (list). Trust me. You can live without it.

It appears that Excel did not close properly. You will have to kill the process using the Task Manager.

Uninstall Adobe Application Manager
Log on to Adobe Downloads and download and install Adobe Application Manager
Run the exe file as Administrator.

To close Firefox, in the menus select "File > Exit", you can start Firefox by using the same shortcut that you used to open Firefox originally.
I would ignore the instructions from Adobe. Adobe uses its own download manager but it is not required. All you need to do to install Adobe Flash is download the Adobe Flash manual installer and run it. Disable Bridge in order to install software???

I can't install, or indeed uninstall any Adobe software. When I try, I get a message saying to turn off Adobe Bridge to proceed. As far as I am aware, Bridge isn't in fact running... Certainly not according to task manager.

I have the same problem. I have a corrupted CS4 Design Suite and when I try to reinstall it, I get the error message "Bridge needs to be disabled in order to continue with a re-install. I cannot open any of the programs in the suite. I have tried to get Adobe tech support but I end up talking to someone in India sitting in front of a monitor reading from a prepared script in a binder. There is no one knowledgeable at support who knows what files I need to delete in windows 7. If I try to delete any CS4 folder or file in the folders, I get the error message "The program is being used somewhere else now so it cannot be deleted. This is turning into a exercise in patience. I am really disapointed and as I read these threads, it seems to be a problem in CS5 as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I don't want reformat the drive. Thanks.
