How do I open a directory of music files (wav) without adding to library?
In Windows Media Player I can go to a directory and open the whole folder and play it without adding it to the library. Can this be done in iTunes?
I record my LPs at 96K, 24bit and just want to play them back. If I add them, since the id3 tag information is not there, I cannot easily find them and cannot sort them since they are not labeled.
Try unchecking the option to add to library when played.
If that doesn't work then you could add the tag info.

Unless you have a recent backup of your library that you can restore, iTunes has no information about the files you've deleted, so you'll need to use Windows' search functions to locate them. This is one of many reasons why you should set these options in Edit > Preferences > Advanced:

thanksIn the File I/O>>Advanced File Functions Palette is a function named "List directory". This function will give you two arrays. One contains the names of all subdirectories the other the names of all files. If you want to sort them by name use the array sort function. If you want to sort them by another attribute use the File/Directory Info function to get more data. Use a cluster which contains the attribut to sort and the original index of the name. Then sort this array.

This is actually not true; I support users who are doing this w/ Excel 2011 (v14.2.2+) for Mac and Windows users w/ Excel 2003 & 2007. Win users are from finance dept, and who have pasword-protected various budget files. The Mac users are (surprise) "creative" users, who enter pw to unlock and edit these budget files.
These files are shared from a Mac server (running 10.6.8 server), and I do have an erratic problem where all users have read-only access to these pw-protected Excel files. The manual work-around has been to copy the troublesome file(s) and confirm users have full access again. I also do a shuffling of filenames, so that the new, working file has original file name.
FYI: the Mac server POSIX and ACL permissions are correct, and don't appear to be source of the problem.
It's easy an SMB file-locking issue or concurrent users trying to edit these files. I keep reminding them that Excel is not a database! -

How do you open the DVD tray on a K430 without using Windows Explorer? I can't find a button on or below the door. Am I missing something? Additionally, will the K430 boot from a DVD/CD if it finds one in the DVD tray instead of the hard disk? Please help. Thanks.

Regarding your questions:
1. Can you try to press the eject symbol on the DVD bay and observe if the DVD tray comes out.

2. By default, the HDD is set as the first boot device and the ODD second on the K430. You will need to change the boot order or continuously tap F12 during POST to boot from the ODD (assuming you have a bootable media inserted).

If I recall, it is necessary to boot your Mac into Mac OS 9 to run it. It won't run in Mac OS 9 Classic running inside Mac OS X. Your Mac cannot boot into Mac OS 9, so you probably can't run iMovie 2.0.1.
You probably wouldn't want to anyway, for versions of iMovie that ran in Mac OS 9 used the OS 9 file name structure, which causes problems for projects converted to Mac OS X.
The simplest solution is to simply import the project.mov file that's inside the iMovie 2 project folder to a new iMovie HD project. (Don't import the iMovie 2 project file, import its .mov file.) Because of the name problem, it's possible this won't work either, but it probably will.
That will deliver the entire iMovie 2 project as a single clip to the iMovie HD project. The clips you had in iMovie 2 won't be editable, but everything will be there and play in the proper order.

it is not inthe audio window in the menu inspector but is still in use! wiered!Click on the menu with the audio, then look in the property inspector, under the 'general' tab.

To get some semblance of the original content into Indesign, you could export the Pub file to PDF, then use PDF2ID, (probably a free trial available out there), to convert the PDF. -
