How do I open a disk image made in disk utility?

How do I open a disk image made in disk utility? I made the disk image myself and it won't let me open it.

I have an old Kodak Photo CD (1999) and Photoshop Elements 11 on Windows 7. How can I open the .pcd images?
Please help me open these photos. They are very important to me and I need to access them.
If I can't do it with any of the software installed on my computer, would someone be willing to open them, save them as jpgs and send them to me?
    Thank you so much, Nancy

You can get the plugin here by downloading the Extra Content for Photoshop CS3  File 2
Just be sure to follow Note:Very Important Instructions or the link won't work.
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
After downloading the PHSPCS3_Cont_WWE.exe, double click on it to extract the contents, probably to your desktop.
Then in the Goodies folder, Optional Plugins folder, you'll see the Kodak PhotoCD folder
Open that and copy the Photo CD.8BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins
Copy the profiles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles

How do I open my disk drive?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
         /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

are you using mac OS10.2 or later?
if so, this is what I did to solve this most frustrating
    problem. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities
In the Disk Utility window, click on your hard drive, make
sure you're in the First Aid tab, then click on Repair Disk
    Permissions.
Once the permissions were repaired, I took the advice of
another user here on the forum and reinstalled Flash Player 6, as
it was the one that was working before I tried to upgrade and it
    screwed everything up.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I open a raw image with the Photoshop raw plug in as opposed to the Bridge raw plug-in.

I read in a book on adobe raw that it is often useful to open an image at the same time with the adobe camera raw bridge plug in and the Photoshop camera raw plug in.
I can open a raw image in photoshop but I suspect I am not actually getting access to the camera raw plug in as none of the controls present in the bridge raw plug seem to be available from within Photoshop.
Of course I can access bridge and the bridge raw plug in by opening bridge from within Photoshop but this is not what I want to do.  I would like to open the image using the photoshop raw plug in not the bridge plug in.
    Clueless . . . and confused.

Thanks for the discussion.  It is interesting.  Let me clarify a bit regarding my issue.
I am using Mountain Lion OSX on a mac, of course, and CS6.  I have been using Aperture, a piece of Apple Software similar to Light Room to organize my images, opening them from Aperture in Photoshop to edit them, as I am both familiar with Photoshop and like the way it does things better than Aperture.  I recently started using CS6 and working with Adobe Camera raw 7, which I think is the version that comes with CS6.  All the info I can get from the web site, including a very nice tutorial from Adobe on camera raw, simply tells me to open it from Bridge.  When I do this, I get a nice set of sliders and other adjustments specifically associated with Adobe Camera Raw and the camera I am using.
I can open a file in Photoshop using the method SkillRooster suggests and, sure enough, it opens it with the camera raw plug-in (if I simply open the image by double clicking on it it opens in photoshop, no plug-in).  If I then go to bridge and open it from there, I don't get a second instance of Camera raw, it simply points me at the instance opened through Photoshop.
However, when I open a raw image in Photoshop from Aperture  (raw images open with no problem) I simply get the Photoshop interface, not the camera raw plug-in, the same as if I had double clicked on the image to open it from outside of Aperture.  I am trying to figure out if there is some way to open an image from Aperture in Photoshop so that it opens in the camera raw plug-in.  One possibility I could imagene is to open it in Photoshop and from there open it in the plug-in.  The only thing I see regarding this in Photoshop is a menu item that lets me close the image and open Bridge, which doesn't help me with my Aperture issue.  I could decide to switch to bridge, but with the thousands of images I now have in Aperture, this would be quite a bit of work.  I may just have to work with both going forward.
The root of my original question comes from something I recently read in a book by Bruce Fraser on Camera Raw which is excellent, but it focues on CS 5.5 as he died before being able to update it.  In that book he describes a trick he uses where he opens the raw image in a plug-in in Bridge and then opens it a second time using a plug-in in Photoshop.  This give him a chance to compare adjustments between the two open images.  As I mentioned above, when I try to do this by starting with Photoshop and then going to Bridge, it points me at the same instance.  I can't open it in Bridge and then Photoshop since once it is open in Bridge, it won't let me into Photoshop without closing the image in Bridge.  I was thinking there might be something in Fraser's method that would help me with my Aperture issue, but can't reproduce what he describes.
Perhaps this was possible in CS5.5 but no longer  in CS6.
Another work around I can imagine is to do all my raw editing from Bridge and then save the file as a DNG file in Aperture.  I suspect that after that, I am stuck with doing any more raw editing using the Aperture camera raw funcions, which are a bit lacking compared with Adobe Camera Raw.
Hope I am being clear here about my dilemma.  Any help would be welcomed.

  • How to restore Windows in disk utility?

So I am trying to transfer a windows image by target booting to a Mac Pro, but the windows side wont, it's giving me a no bootable device error, Help!!!.

You have not really detailed your setup and how you used WinClone, whether you have a divided disk drive or not.
Thread with suggestions on Windows backup methods:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3798090
    Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions costs US$19.95.
    Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
    GParted Live
GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Since it has more functions than CampTune, it may be harder for folks who are not as experienced with partitioning hard drives. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    iPartition
Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. It provides a Mac-oriented user interface that may be easier to manage than some of the free utilities. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)
    Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
    Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
    The full process would be:
    Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
    Delete old Windows partition
    Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section
    Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.

  • .dmg keeps opening in Disk Utility

When I try to open a .dmg file by double clicking it it mounts it as a disk image on Disk Utility and from there I have to right click and select "Open Disk Image". This has only started happening since I've upgraded to OS Lion.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

Sounds like there has been a disconnect between .dmg files and the application that mounts them, DiskImageMounter.
Select any .dmg file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section select DiskImageMounter from the dropdown menu then click on the Change All button. If the application isn't listed then locate it in the /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder.

  • WD My Book 4TB opens in disk utility but does not show in finder/desktop?

I am able to see my drive and open it from within the Disk Utility but it has disappeared from my desktop/finder. Verify and repair show NO issues. When I open it from the Disk Utility all information is intact.
    Thank you in advance!

    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    sudo chflags nohidden /V*/Wo*
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

  • How do i update my disk utility

my disk utility will not work with 10.6.8
can i update it? or re install it?

    Hello madeinamerica,
If an application or utility that is part of the operating system is not functioning correctly, you'll likely need to reinstall the operating system.
Mac OS X 10.6: Reinstalling Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6606
Do verify that Disk Utility is being opened from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, as well, as an old copy of the utility in a different location may not function as expected.

  • How to run repair in disk utility without a start up cd

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 2.3 GHz i5.  I have run disk utility and it says that my disk needs to be repaired.  It says I should insert the start up CD and then run repair but my mac book did not come with a disk. I ran disk utility because there are 247GB of miscellaneous files on my computer.
    Any help gratefully received.

Lion has the 'install disk' built in.
You access it by restarting your mac and holding down the 'command' and 'r' keys. When the disk icons appear, choose the 'Recovery HD' icon. In the menu up the top, you can choose Utilities > Disk Utility.

  • How do I open a TIF image email attachment using windows photo gallery as the default instead of microsoft office picture manager?

I have an internet fax program that sends faxes directly to my email as a TIF image attachment. When I download the attachment it lists Microsoft office picture manager as the default program to view the image. I would like to change the default program to view the image to Microsoft photo gallery. How do I change the default program to open an image attachment in firefox? Thank you

OK I have it figured out! I was using google mail. For what ever reason the imac/pc safari using google would not display the PDF in the email even though the ipad/iphone did. I tried a different mail system through work (not google mail) and it EVERYTHING works GREAT!!!!! Wow, a lot of wasted time over something that was actually working.
