How do I open a layer in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw)?

when I open a jpg file, it opens in its own layer.  How to I get to the camera raw dialog with that layer, then return as a smart object?

Stop the presses!  It can be done!
There is a CS6 Photoshop extension that does exactly this.
Go here.. http://www.russellbrown.com/scripts.html
Then scroll down a bit to find "Edit Layers in ACR"
I tried it.. it works very well!

  • How to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw

I know it is possible to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw using Bridge but is it possible to do this using PSE7?  Thanks.

Yes. In the editor, File>Open As, and choose camera raw as the format. John Ellis also has a script for doing this directly from the organizer, but I don't have the link right at the moment. Hopefully he'll be along with it sooner or later.

  • How do you crop outside the image in Adobe Camera Raw?

I would like to create a crop of a portion of an image in Adobe Camera Raw AND include some area outside that image. Is there a way to do this.

You can't do that in ACR, but you can if you open it in Photoshop and use the crop tool there.

  • How can I open (and edit) multiple jpegs in camera raw?

I am able to open only one at a time. I tried holding the shift and command keys down to select multiple images and I cannot seem to do it.
    thank you

It’s only possible to open jpegs one at a time in Camera Raw.
You need Lightroom 3 to be able to do multiple edits simultaneously - there is a free trial for 30 days.

  • Can I open multiple jpeg files in Adobe Camera Raw ?

Hi, it seems that I cannot do this - not an option in PE11 ??  Such a pity if not !
I can open one JPEG at a time, or multiple Raw images in ACR.
Have checked other sources including Barbara Brundage "The Missing Manual" but whilst it does not
specifically say you cannot, likewise there is no indication that you can.

Many thanks, Barbara.  Must admit I had more or less assumed that was the reason.  Just living in hopes !

  • Selection in Aperture , processing in ACR ( Adobe Camera Raw )

I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to see my ratings from Aperture in finder - on original master files.
I understand "holy raw" policy and I have been following the threads about painfull renaming techniques
    ( obvious workarounds ).
Seeing my in Aperture rated raw files in finder is crucial for me because I want to use Adobe Camera Raw for processing .
I might also use DPP or Capture One for this in some situations.
(I prefere Aperture for selection work , I love loupe )
So is there som simple way to do it ?
One way would be for example if you could give a
color label ( visible in finder ) to selected master files .
That would be fine for me .
And as I understand wouldn't make any changes to the original file ( so it would stay "untouched" ).
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Just re-read your first post and realised that you want to apply a Finder label to every RAW file based on rating. This is doable, but would require someone to write an app or script, like Adam Tow's app that moves metadata between Aperture and iView.
The rating for each image is held in the OriginalVersionInfo.apversion file next to each RAW file:
    <key>mainRating</key>
    <integer>0</integer>
If you are only grading into two categories and Bridge is doing what you want, then there is no reason not to use Bridge, it's likely to be faster for you, which is the main thing.
Time - setting up a hot folder takes about ten minutes, and I'd never done one before. On the other hand I know my way around Automator etc., as should anyone dealing with large numbers of images. Most of the extra steps are to bring the converted file back into Aperture, automatically linked with the RAW file as a version.
Here's to hoping that the conversion quality gets better fast!

  • How do I open a JPG in ACR.

I was shown, and have read that to do this I have to right click on the file and select 'Open in Adobe raw' but do not have this option appear when I right click.I am using Elements 11.

Thank you for the reply. My trouble was trying to do it from the organiser, but from the editor it works fine.

  • Open with External Editor Adobe Camera Raw = HOW?

When I export a RAW file to the External Editor (I've chosen Photoshop CS3) I would like for it to open in Adobe Camera Raw, just like any RAW file that I open in Photoshop outside of Aperture.
However it bypasses Adobe Camera Raw and opens directly in Photoshop.
I have the "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files" and "for Supported RAW files" boxes checked in the Photoshop Prefs.
I see some chatter about Hot folders and Automator around here, but no definitive answer/workaround.
If Aperture doesn't support exporting to Adobe Camera Raw, it is a HUGE leg-up for Lightroom in the RAW workflow department.
Please tell me I'm missing a checkbox somewhere... Thanks.

You're not missing a checkbox, you're missing a fundamental issue of how Aperture (and LightRoom for that matter) work.
When you use the Open in External Editor command, Aperture will convert the RAW file, apply any adjustments you have made, and send the resulting PSD or TIFF file to the external editor.
The original file is NOT sent and there is no option to do so. Why not? Because Aperture Versions do not exist as discrete image files - the adjustments are shown on-the-fly each time you view it, saving on the space taken up by multiple TIFF/PSD/JPEG files for each Version. As ACR uses a totally different RAW conversion & adjustment engine from Aperture, Aperture wouldn't be able to display any changes made in ACR without including the entire conversion engine of ACR, which Adobe might not be too happy about...
In other words, if you want to use a different RAW convertor you will have to export the Master, convert it in the other app, and then import the resulting 'normal' image file back into Aperture. The same is true for LightRoom.

  • How do I get Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) support for my new Canon EOS 7D mkii.

I purchased the new Canon EOS 7D mkii in early November. I tried opening the raw files in both the latest Creative Cloud versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. I found that Adobe Camera Raw, both the current versions and ACR 8.7 beta/release candidate, did not support this camera. I know one exists because dpreview reviewed the pre-relase version of this camera in mid-October showing images processed with an unreleased version of ACR?
How do I get this early unreleased version of ACR for this camera?

Canon Eos 7D Mark ii was launched after we released ACR 8.7 RC. So, that’s the reason it is not included in the RC version. However, it is on our radar and hoping to add it in an upcoming update itself.
As soon as it is available, it will be updated in the below article.

  • How to open multiple jpgs in Adobe Camera Raw PSE 9 Mac

I am using Adobe Elements 9 on a Mac.  I can open a single jpeg file in ACR with the file open command.  There is no "Open As" in my version, probably because this is the Mac version.  But, there is an additional dialog which allows me to open the jpeg file and select "Camera Raw" as the type.  This opens the jpg in the raw editor.
But, when I select multiple files to open, the type dialog vanishes.  Rather than opening the files in ACR, they are stacked in the main editor.  I don't have this problem opening multiple dng files - just multiple jpg files.  Multiple jpg files will not open in ACR.
I then went to the organizer, which replaced Bridge?  In Bridge, I read there is a command to open multiple files in ACR or use the cmd-R.  However, I am not seeing an open in ACR command in the organizer, just open in editor.  Opening multiple jpg files in the organizer stacks them into the editor, not ACR.  And, typing cmd-R brings up Red Eye reduction, not Raw Editing.
Is there a trick to this which I am missing?

Thanks Terry! I’ve been using this for a few years and settled on the somewhat more flexible approach… As you mentioned, Bridge offers an explicit command to open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, which I do, but then with a press of Shift I can open that JPEG as a smart object and revisit CR controls for further adjustment at any time later in the process.

  • How to get Adobe Camera RAW loaded so I can open RAW files from a Panasonic LX7?

I opened these images two days ago. Now I get a message that the CS6 Photoshop does not recognize this type of file. I went online and again(3rd time)downloaded Camera RAW 7.3 and tried installing and opening the images.
    Once again - same thing.
Now I have something called a DNG converter on the machine and I don't know what it is.
I opened it and tried to get to the LX7 files in my computer I can see in Bridge - and the DNG converter does not show the files at all.
I was doing just fine with CS5 - then I bought this piece of crap because I could not get an update for CS5 to open the Panasonic Lumix LX7 images. So, I wasted $200 on CX6 only to find I can't get my images opened.
I hate photoshop more every damn day
First, took three days and over 9 hours wasted on hold for Adobe phone help - and finally got a guy on to help me register Photoshop CS6 - and he could not get it to register. Finally after a day & a half and hours of continually cutting and pasting from teh online computer to the main computer that does not hook up to the Internet I got CS6 to work.
Then, I opened the Panasonic LX7 RAW images twice after downloading and installing Adobe Camera RAW 7.1 and 7.3 - and now the machine does not recognize the files and tells me to go to http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111
I went there and have downloaded the Camera Raw 7.1 and 7.3 four different times now and tried installing it - and Still can't open the damn files. I keep getting the same "photoshop cannot open this file" message and teh same referenc to teh above.
How can I get this piece of Shiz to work???
Oh - the name for ID above is after 22 minutes of trynig to find an name this program would accept.

The first thing I would suggest is, in Photoshop, go to Help/About Plug-Ins and click on Camera Raw to verify what version is installed. There should only be one version listed, and listed only once. If there are more, then you need to get rid of the extras.
The DNG converter is a program that will create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw images. It takes all of the raw image data and copies it to a new file format. The raw data is unmodified, and the DNG file is a standardized and open documented file format. But the DNG converter will not list the actual files. You choose the folder that contains your original raw images, and then the converter will put the copies wherever you choose to put them. But if your camera is supposed to be supported by the latest version of Camera Raw, I don't know if converting will solve the problem. It won't hurt anything; your raw files are still intact.
It would be helpful if you could describe your computer; operating system, how much RAM, a little information to allow the experts (of which I am NOT one) to help you isolate and solve this problem.

  • How do I open a web page in Adobe Reader from ipad2?  I don't see any buttons to click. I'm new user

How do I open  a web page in Adobe Reader? I got the app for ipad2, but when a page says I need a certain version of AR, I don't know what to do. I'm a new user and don't know if I have to "open" AR and it automatically reads whatever doc I have up on the web, or is it always running and any web page I'm on should show a button to click in order to open the page in AR?

If a website says that you need a certain version of Adobe Reader, it is probably attempting to detect whether or not you have the Adobe Reader browser plugin installed. This is something that only works on desktop systems where browser plugins exist. Since browser plugins don't exist on mobile, website developers should take care to present different messages and provide different options for downloading PDF's when visited by mobile browsers. I recommend contacting the website owner and requesting that they implement access for mobile devices.

  • How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"?

How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"? Or can I or should I....??
I am a brand new Cloud member.  I heard of the Retina update.  Assuming this was where the updates would logically appear I went to the "Adobe Application Manager" app first.  Without closing the "Adobe Application Manager" I opened Photoshop and went to the help menu and selected "Updates..."; a second window opened in the already open "Adobe Application Manager".
    I selected update all.
    The result is below:

Now, I closed the "Adobe Application Manager" and opened "Photoshop" again and again selected "Updates..." from the help menu.  The "Adobe Application Manager" opened again with just one window this time and the updates happened correctly.
I was hoping one of the updates would be to the "Adobe Application Manager", I don't think so.
So, If I were you I wouldn't select "Updates..." from an Adobe app unless the "Adobe Application Manager" is closed until they fix it...

The updates are currently available by going to Help>Updates within the Application.  Once you invoke the Updater, which is a component of the Adobe Application Manager, it will locate and apply the updates.  It looks like most of your updates have failed to install.  I would recommend you begin by trying to apply the updates that are available on our product update page at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and seeing if you face the same difficulty.
If you continue to experience problems with applying the updates then please review your installation log to determine the cause of the failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

  • I am unable to open raw files from my Canon T1i in Adobe Camera Raw of my version CS3 of Photoshop.  I have tried to update my ACR by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe website but I am still unable to open raw files, just JPEG.  Is there a way to use

I am unable to open raw files taken on my Canon Rebel T1i in my version of Photoshop CS3.  When I import raw files into Bridge they come up as patches with CR2 on them and when clicked on, a notice comes up stating that Photoshop does not recognize these files.  I tried to update my Adobe Camera Raw by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe Website, but when I clicked on the plus-in, I got another message that Photoshop does not recognize this file.  I spoke with a representative from Canon who said that I could not update CS3 and that I should subscribe to the Cloud.  I would prefer to use my CS3, if possible.  Can anyone advise me what to do?

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all T1i Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS3
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
