How do I open documents that are grayed out?

Do these files have a file extension (e.g. .dmg, .jpg, etc.)?

  • I have duplicative song files in my library that are grayed out.  This seems to cause a syncing problem to my ipod or iphone.  How can I clean up this mess?

I chose to let iTunes rearrange my files and it appears to have duplicated them in my computer's drive.  So now I have the same folders/files directly under my D drive (second computer hard drive) and also in the iTunes Music Folder that iTunes created.  Wasn't sure what to do so I did another import and now I have files in my library that are grayed out with the small i symbol in the circle next to them.  I also have the working (bolded) files too.  How can I clean this up?

Is there a way to override the 256kbps "conversion" when uploading to iCloud?
No. All music that is mirrored in the cloud will be AAC@256 Kbps.

Along the same lines, if I "download" a song from my library to my iPhone, then plug my iPhone into my computer and sync the song file from my computer, will the higher quality original file overwrite the 256 one?
No, because with iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device traditional syncing of music via USB is disabled. All music management is done directly on the device.

Also, if I want to syncronize another computer using iTunes match, how can I get the higher quality audio files?  Will I simply have to transport all of them by an exernal hard drive or thumb drive?
You will first have to copy the high-quality audio files to the computer, add them to the iTunes library then enable iTunes Match.

  • How can i revise documents that are emailed to me/

How can I revise and edit documents that are emailed to me?

You need an app that is compatible with the file Tyoe that you want to edit. For instance and most typically, users want to edit MS Office files such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Apple offers their own compatible suite of iWorks apps - Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Other office suite apps are available in the app store, Quick Office, Documents to Go, Office2 HD.
When you receive the file via email, if you have a compatible app that allows you to edit, you can tap and hold down on the file icon in the email and you will get the option to "open in" and from that option you can select the app that works with that file. The file will then open in that app and you can revise and edit from there. Those files will be saved right in the apps themselves as there is no conventional file storage stucture on the iPad like you have on a computer.

  • Opening documents that are in a book (CS4, JS)

    Hello,
Just had a quick look through the ESTK object model and I couldn't see a way of opening a document that's in a book, through the book (so the non-script action would involve opening the book file then double-clicking the relevant document). I can obivously get the file path of a document in the book and open it another way, but I'm trying to avoid getting the 'document modified outside of book' error triangle when processing and saving documents that are in a book.
If anyone has any pearls of wisdom, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.

What am I missing here? If you have a book opened and you can check which documents it contains (using BookContents) and optionally open them, you can also safely change and save those docs. No warning triangles -- because the book is also openen, and it'll notice the changes.
Only if you do something unexpected, such as open the book, open a document from the book, then close the book ... before committing your changes ... it'll gain its yellie triangle. But then again, it'd do the same if you do that manually.

  • How to find all routes that are going out an interface in IOS-XR.

    Hi all,
So if I have the following set up in IOS:
    interface GigabitEthernet7/0/0.265
    encapsulation dot1Q 265
    ip vrf forwarding test
    ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
    ip verify unicast reverse-path
    end
    ip route vrf Apollo 2.2.2.0 255.255.255.248 1.1.1.2
I can see all the routes that are going out the interface using show ip cef command:
ios-router#show ip cef vrf test GigabitEthernet7/0/0.265
    2.2.2.0/29
      nexthop 1.1.1.2 GigabitEthernet7/0/0.265
    1.1.1.0/30
      attached to GigabitEthernet7/0/0.265
    1.1.1.2/32
      attached to GigabitEthernet7/0/0.265
In case of IOS-XR (ASR9K 4.3.2 or 4.3.1) the same setup and command shows only
    attached routes:
    router static
    vrf test
      address-family ipv4 unicast
       2.2.2.0/29 1.1.1.2
    RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:TST_riga-sb7-pe-asr9#show cef vrf test bundle-ether2.265
    Prefix              Next Hop            Interface
    1.1.1.0/30          attached            Bundle-Ether2.2220333
    1.1.1.0/32          broadcast           Bundle-Ether2.2220333
    1.1.1.1/32          receive             Bundle-Ether2.2220333
    1.1.1.2/32          1.1.1.2             Bundle-Ether2.2220333
    1.1.1.3/32          broadcast           Bundle-Ether2.2220333
Is there any command to see all the routes that are going out an interface without complicated parsing
of the configuration, recursive show cef commands etc.?

You can accomplish this with the "show route" command.  Here is an example:
    P/0/RSP1/CPU0:ASR9006-E#sh route next-hop tenGigE 0/3/0/2

           N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
           E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP
           i - ISIS, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2
           ia - IS-IS inter area, su - IS-IS summary null, * - candidate default
           U - per-user static route, o - ODR, L - local, G  - DAGR

  • How to make Outlook 2013 calendar only show specific hours and hide the others that are grayed out

I’d like to show 7am to 10pm thus allowing the rest of the day to be less cramped vertically on my screen.  I don't want to see all the grayed out hours which are
outside of business hours.  How can I do this?

Right click on the time scale and choose the next smaller scale. It may not help much since 7 -10 is a fairly long period, although with 30 min and the ribbon minimized, i see 7a - 11p on a 24" monitor. You may need to set 7 as the start of your business
day. If you have it set later in options, outlook will start the day at the later time.

  • I cannot open documents that are sent to my email account

I have Adobe reader and can open documents with the exception of any documents sent to my email at
att.net My email provider has tried on several occasions to find any problems with the email account ect.
with no resolve. My search engine is Mozilla firefox

By accessing my account through one of the suggested addresses, then re-entering my username and password which creates a new bookmark, has allowed me to open a document which was attached in an email.
    Thank you for the advise.

  • How can I access advanced drop downs in IMovie if they are grayed out

I'm trying to insert a jpg over a portion of my video. Nothing I've tried has worked. A video indicates that I can do this using the advanced options.  The video indicates how to go through Preferences to gain access to the advanced option but the video preferences are not the same as my preferences so I'm back to square one. How do I get access to the advanced options that are grayed out in my iMovie.
I'm using IMovie HD 6. Thx

Depending on where you have the mouse clicked, you might see the menus change. So click the mouse down into the movie timeline at the bottom of the screen itself and you might see the Extract Audio option become available under the Advanced Menu for instance.

  • The To Do List Items in Mail are grayed out. I can't edit or mark them :(

As stated in the title, the To Do items in Mail are all grayed out, I can't edit or mark them complete anymore. In iCal, on the other hand, To Do items are working correctly. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and the To Do items were working fine before, but are not now.

Sorry, I should have explained it more. I had 186 To Do items in the Mail To Do section that were working fine before I installed Snow Leopard (I was able to mark them complete or incomplete, rename, and edit them). After installing Snow Leopard, half of them are grayed out and half of them are working correctly. I am unable to mark the grayed out To Do items complete, or rename or edit them. The To Do items that are grayed out are random, like, it's not all of the complete ones, or all of the ones that are in a month or so.
    Here is a screenshot: http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4743/screenshotgh.png
I know it's not the biggest deal, I just used to use Mail as my To Do thing If you know of a better app for the kinds of To Dos you see in the screenshot, let me know

  • I have several pdfs on my iPad in iBooks. My iPhone shows only the categories, none of the documents. How can I get my iPhone to also show the documents that are on my iPad?

I have several pdfs on my iPad in iBooks. My iPhone shows only the categories, none of the documents. How can I get my iPhone to also show the documents that are on my iPad?

You will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your computer (that will copy PDFs and epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and you can then sync them to your iPhone. Or you might be able to open each PDF in iBooks on your iPad and use the share icon to email them to yourself and then use 'open in' in the Mail app on your iPhone to copy them to its iBooks app (if the PDF is protected then you may not get the email option via the share icon).
The Settings > iBooks > Sync Collections setting doesn't copy items between devices, it just means that it a bookor PDF is on both devices and you move it into a collection on one device then it will be moved into the same collection on the other device

  • How do I back up documents that are stored in iCloud to my own hard drive?

The trouble is, however I search for an answer to this question, I get instructions on how to back up stuff TO iCloud.
I want to back up stuff that applications like Pages and Numbers are already storing IN iCloud.
See, I don't want to have to trust iCloud to safely store my documents.  Not unless there are copies somewhere that I can fall back on if (it's really only a matter of when) something goes fatally haywire in iCloud.
It's easy enough to do with a service like, say, Dropbox, which treats my "cloud-stored" files like they are in a folder on my hard-drive.  So when I run either a local (Time Machine/Capsule) or a cloud (Crashplan, in my case) backup, those files get backed up.  So I have at least three copies of those files - in Dropbox, on my Time Capsule, and on Crashplan's servers.
So how do I do that with docs that are stored in iCloud?  Apple wants me to store stuff in iCloud - if I have iCloud enabled and want to save a doc to another destination, there are multiple steps I want to go through.  And I'm fine with using iCloud if I'm creating documents that I want to be able to access from my iOS devices as well.
Yes, I can do that with Dropbox, but it's less seamless than doing it through iCloud.
But I want my own backups of those files, and near as I can tell, Apple makes that nearly impossible because iCloud does not show up anywhere as a folder that I can access or sort.
Or does it?  Am I missing something?
If so, let me know.... if not... is there a solution to this dilemma, or is it just one more aspect of iCloud that Apple has not clearly thought through?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Right.  You didn't read the post, you only read the title.
The title came from an earlier step in the process when I was posing a question to the systen.
The pertinent part of the question is "How to I back up documents that are stored in iCloud"
That the destination for the backup is NOT my internal HDD should be clear from the rest of the post.
And frankly, even if that is where I want to back up to, that would at least give me two copies, at least giving me one duplicate of the stuff on iCloud.
So please stop wasting my time if you can't answer the actual question: How do I backup content that is stored in iCloud.  The destination of the backup is irrelevant.

  • How do I open documents created in apple works that will no longer open?

How can I open documents created in appleworks that will no longer open now that I have pages?

If you have the Apple iWork '09 suite installed, you can open pure AppleWorks word processing, spreadsheet, or presentations in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote respectively. You can not open AppleWorks documents in Pages v5, Numbers v3, or Keynote v6.
If you do not have the above iWork '09 suite, then download the free LibreOffice suite. Drag and drop your AppleWorks documents on the LibreOffice icon, and it will sort out what will open them. Note: LibreOffice will pause shortly after it takes you to an optional donation page — before continuing the download. Everything installs under /Applications/LibreOffice.
