Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combinationshift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and pressreturn:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
If you still have the issue, repeat the above steps using this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I do not wish to use adobe reader. I just uninstalled it and now I can't view pdf files in preview when attempting to open the file in safari browser. How can set safari to open any pdf files using preview application?

The Problem:
After loading OSX 10.7.1, whenever I try to open a .pdf file from a website using Safari 5.1, I get a blank gray/black screen with the Quicktime Q symbol in the middle.
Notes:
I downloaded and set my preference to use Adobe Reader version 10.1.1 on all .pdf files.
I am able to successfully open .pdf files, with Adobe Reader, which are on already on my hard drive.
I am also able to successfully open .pdf files, with Adobe Reader, which are sent to me via email.
Only the Safari website .pdf files are unopenable.
Help is appreciated.

I am so frustrated. I've been trying to open a PDF in Safari and it opens (almost all the way) and then stops. It's about 80% open. What is preventing it from opening all the way? I've tried removing the PDF plugins from the library. Nothing works. It just stops. Any advice or good direction would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In response to all of your responses. I imported my pictures from my camera- that worked fine. I tend to use Iphoto.
Then I synched my MacBook and Ipad 2, that worked fine except when I synched my Ipad for it's normal 2 week synching it copied the pictures again. Now I want to get rid of the duplicates/triplicates- my albums were also broken up and need to be reorganized. I have tried all of your suggestions - thank you-

Did not find Image Capture in apps.

How do I open pdf's in Safari 5.0.5? Just a black screen

Each time I try to open a pdf file when using Safari all I get is a BLACK SCREEN. Moving the cursor all over the screen produces nothing. This is a consistent problem with any pdf that I encounter on any site. Anyone else experience the problem or better yet found a solution???

Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the PDF Browser Plug-in to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari for changes to take effect.

Select the alias' icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. It should show you the original path to the original item. It may also suggest you need to re-locate the connection to the original item. Or you can go to the original item and simple make a new alias. Select the item for which you want an alias, then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Make alias from the context menu.

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
605124.pdf.html
Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:

How to stop Adobe Reader opening pdf's in Safari

I've checked all the forums for this problem and have tried all the solutions, however none work for me.
I've deleted Adobe Reader and used a program call CleanMyMac to get rid of all files, so no plug-in's, nothing left of Adobe Reader. Yet, I cannot open pdf's in Safari as it still wants to use Adobe Reader.
I've right clicked other pdf's in my documents and have checked that they are opening with my default program, which is Evernote. The option to 'change all' is greyed out.
What else can I do, other than stop using Safari?

Right click those and select “Move To Trash”.
