In iPhoto '11 you can only display two lines below the thumbnails of your photos when you browse an event or an album, the titles and the ratings. The title will be truncated, if it does not fit into the single line. From the iPhoto help:
To show title and rating information below photos:
Click to select Photos in the Source list.
Choose View, and then choose the information you want to view:
Titles
Rating
The information field you chose appears below your photos.
To hide this information, choose View, and then choose the information you want to hide.

How to repair Open Directory Master after Changing Hostname

Summary:
How to repair Open Directory after Changing your Server's Hostname (see separate post)
Problem:
I had to change our server's hostname from a private hostname (server.name.private) to a public hostname (name.dyndns.org).
Procedure:
1. Precautions:
Since I was anticipating major dramas I tested the change of hostname on a clone ( I used Super Duper, and I very strongly advise everybody to heed this warning because a change of hostname will corrupt your server services, in particular Open Directory)
Second, I exported the network users from Server Admin and copied the archive to the Drop Folder of the server's local account (because the network accounts will be unavailable after demoting the OD Master.)
2. Change hostname and demote OD Master
a) I re-booted the server from the clone
b) I changed the hostname in Server App and I noticed that the Open Directory Password and the Kerberos database were still stuck with the old hostname.
c) I then demoted to a standalone directory (Server Admin) and I tried to promote the server to an OD Master using the Server App (Manage Network Accounts). Server App always returned an error saying I should check my network settings.
3. List of 'fixes'
I tried the following fixes to no avail (which does not mean that you can skip them)
a) I checked the DNS entries, forward and reverse were working fine (sudo checkip -changehostname)
b) Checked with Lookup in Network Utility, all was fine
c) I deleted all system certificates (Keychain) which showed the name of the previous hostname
( N.B. you need not delete email certificate and private/public keys)
d) I tried to assign a new static IP in Networking Preferences (had no visible result)
e) I re-booted from the working drive and I re-paired permissions on the clone; I ran disk repairs.
Despite all this I could not re-create an OD Master.
I then looked for this dubious folder /var/root/Library/Application Support/Certificate Authority.
I could not find this folder when using the Finder's Go To Folder, nor did "Easy Find" see this folder.
I was about to give up when I read the posts on this page and I entered the Terminal commands
sudo rm -R /var/root/Library/Application\ Support/Certificate\ Authority/
I had not much hope when I set about to re-create the OD Master from the Server App.
But lo and behold !!! I did not trust my eyes when Server App claimed that the OD Master had been successfully created. And indeed, Server admin showed a running OD Master, LDAP, Kerberos and Password Server all running again !
Final touch: re-import the user accounts.
Epilogue:
I woud not have been able to fix this issue had not so many others shared their experience and the working solution.

I have loaded Photoshop Elements 9 on my MacBook Pro and cannot open photos. I also have IPhoto running

The following is how to use PSE from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done. 3 - however, if you get the navigation window

that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

I have been a long time user of CS6, but today I signed up for the new Photoshop CC. The problem is that I have absoluetly no idea how to open a photo in the new CC. I don't even see the new CC as something I can download, only a lot of icons that I have never used before and one that is for cs6, which I already have installed on my computer. From where do I down load the new CC program and how do I open one of my photos in it?

After I click to close the Photo Grid it will appear again as soon as I click on the web page I'm working on ... every time...
Every time it appears back dead center of the page I'm trying to work on.
I can move it to the side but can't get rid of it.
Then if I click on the page but not a picture it dissappears.
Only to reappear as soon as I click on a photo again to move it or something.
Am I the only one experiencing this work flow problem?

I read several discussions that suggested to delete the apple.com.Preview.plist
I accessed my Library and have two folders:

Try repairing permissions before deleting .plist files...
Launch Disk Utility located in your Applications > Utilities folder.
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Repair Disk Permissions
This can take awhile so don't be alarmed.
Restart your Mac after Disk Utility is finished then try opening photos and documents in the Finder.

How to skip or edit scn (system change number) for brarchive

hi experts,
I have searched for procedures but didnt find any accurate solution. I wanted to skip the scn or the system change number for my brarchive. I have manually transported my files in the DR site because of seems to be FTP problems. I have to skip those redologs which i have already transfered. How am i suppose to do these? I'm looking forward to a textfile or control file wherein i could edit the number of the next redolog to process or sql commands or something?

Still not sure what exactly your problem is.
You transferred redologs; are they still available in their original oraarch location?
If no : See my answer above. Did that many times myself.
If yes : Log files will be copied by brarchive as always. Make sure that no harm will be done if they are overwritten at a place where they already exist, and where they maybe currently are processed by another program!

How can I Classification Creation with Engineering Change Number.

The followings are the steps of my test
1. I create the engineering change number without release1 (CC01)
2. I create the material code and basic view 1 and 2 with the engineering change number that is created in step 1. (MM11)
3. I intend to create the classification of this material with the engineering change number in CL20N but the system give the error message "Object not found".
When I change the classification view data with the engineering change number that is created in step1, It is very good without any problem.

If you can mention error text system is giving then we may get cause of it and thus solution for same,
From information which you have given, it seems that as you have created material master with ECM number, material will be active only from effective date of that number. Hence when you are trying to assign class to that material system look for that material in current date ans hence is giving error.

Let get the term right. Photoshop has a Layers Palette. The Layers palette show the layers in the current active document your working on in Photoshop. If you have more the one open document they will be in a Tabbed View or Floating Image Windows or Minimized. The list of open documents is in Photoshop menu Windows at the bottom. You can also open more then one image into a single document as a stack of layers and also place, paste and copy in image into a document into a new layer. The layers Palette shows the layers in the current document the one your actively working on. The layers changes as you work on layers and the whole palette changes when you switch between open documents.

Then try the next one:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
