How do I open the bookmarks sidebar in firefox 7?

I can't seem to find where I can open a sidebar to view my bookmarks and browsing history without opening a separate window. I know in the older version of firefox I could just click view>sidebar and that's what the help instructions say to do, but that info doesn't show anything about opening a sidebar with the latest version of firefox because there is no "view" option, or at least none that I can see!

You can hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu Bar, which has the View menu. Or you can use '''{ Ctrl + B }''' to open ''(and close)'' the Bookmarks Sidebar.

  • How do I pin the bookmark sidebar to the left side of my screen?

How do I pin the bookmark sidebar to the left side of my screen? My bookmark sidebar (vertical on the left side of the screen) is gone. When this would happen in the past I wold F10 and then select to view (or pin...can't remember the wording of the command) the sidebar. It was always visible with my bookmarks sorted. Now that sidebar is gone and I can't figure out how to add it back. HELP!

*You can toggle the Bookmarks sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebars > Bookmarks" or Ctrl+B
*You can toggle the History sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebars > History" or Ctrl+H
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.

  • How can I show the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox 6 all the time?

The bookmarks toolbar is hidden by default in Firefox 6, and "view bookmarks toolbar" will only show it until a link is clicked or the tab is changed. How can I display the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox 6 all the time?

On your toolbar area right click an empty space and open Customize.
Then drag the bookmark icon up to your toolbar area and drop.

  • How can I hide the bookmarks sidebar once I've selected a site to got to? At the moment it remains, taking up a huge proportion of the screen and requires another click to get rid of.

how to auto hide bookmarks side bar

    First, some clarification:
    * The location bar (often called the "awesome bar") is the larger bar on the left that shows you the address of the page you are currently viewing. As you type in the location bar it searches your history and bookmarks for matches.
    * The search bar is the smaller one on the right. It typically displays an icon of whichever search engine is currently selected and may display search suggestions as you type in it.
It sounds like you are referring to the search bar rather than the location bar. You can change search engines for the search bar by clicking on the icon on the left edge of the search bar and choosing a different one. You can also choose "Manage Search Engines" to remove ones you aren't interested in using.
It also sounds like Bearshare might have changed your homepage in Firefox. To restore that you will need to open the preferences menu (click Tools > Preferences), go to the General tab (first on the top left), and click "Restore to Default".

  • How can I stop the bookmarks sidebar from popping up in every new window/tab?

I CAN close it, by clicking on the X, or ctrl-B, or going to View... but it keeps coming back in every new window/tab, and that just annoys me. I'm used to having the bookmarks up in the Menu bar, out of the way, until I want them. The sidebar takes up a lot of space. And even though it's easily closed, I resent all these things that I didn't ask for, don't want, and can't control!

Usually the sidebar doesn't open by itself, but it is shared by all the tabs in a window.
If you are using a toolbar button for the Bookmarks menu (instead of the classic menu bar), you might have the sidebar open/close button instead of the drop-down button. They have nearly identical icons, but the menu has either a little triangle or the word Bookmarks to the right of it, depending on which bar it's on. (Screen shot attached, from Firefox 24.)
To change out your button, you can try the Customize feature. See: [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]].

  • I don't have a problem. I want to understand how I can get the bookmarks imported to Firefox sync now that Xmarks will be discontinued.

I have all my bookmarks sync'd via Xmarks, across computers. Now that Xmarks is being discontinued, I want to have my bookmarks sync'd via Firefox sync. So how do I make sure that once I install Firefox sync, I get all my bookmarks from Xmarks into Firefox sync. I assume I import, but it doesn't say anything about this in the info about Firefox sync. Before I install, I want to know what measures to take with the bookmarks from Xmarks. Thanks for taking the time to answer this, I am sure, simplistic question.

As with Xmarks, Firefox Sync will import the bookmarks on your local computer. The bookmarks on your computer should be up to date and include any changes that are on the Xmarks servers. There is no need for Firefox Sync to import the data from the Xmarks server, it just needs to import the bookmarks on your computer.
For details on using it start with the [[What is Firefox Sync]] article. It has a description of what Firefox Sync does and links to how to use it.

  • How i can change the bookmarks path onto firefox 36 to the homeuser folder

    Hello
i have to store only the bookmarks on a homeuser folder and not the hole profile.
is there a solution to do that with firefox version 36.0 without addons?
    I have try with a file and the following text: user_pref("browser.bookmarks.file", "h:\\places.sqlite");
but this is not working. I have found a treat which says this was only in firefox vers2 working.
Is there also such a solution available but for my brand new version?
    Many thanks
    JB

You may move the profile location but AFAIK the bookmarks themselves may not be moved outside the profile.
What are you trying to achieve and why ?
Note it is possible to settup multiple profiles if that helps.
    * [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
It is also possible to backup bookmarks or export them as HTML
*[[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
*[[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
Bookmarks may also be synced between devices.
If you use Firefox Sync for bookmarks do not become over-reliant on it. I strongly recommend manually backing up bookmarks say every two weeks if they are important.

  • How do I pin my bookmarks sidebar to the left side of the page?

I used to be able to pin my bookmarks in a sidebar along the left of the page. I cannot find the command for doing this now. Where is it?

There's two different Bookmarks buttons, the one that you are talking about has a small "drop-mark" arrow which opens a bookmarks drop-down which is like what appears from the Bookmarks menu item on the Menu Bar, when the Menu Bar is hidden '''that''' Bookmarks button appears. The other Bookmarks button (without the drop-mark arrow), which is in the Customize Palette by default, is for toggling the Bookmarks Sidebar - which can also be toggled with {Ctrl + B). ''There's almost two or more ways to do anything in Firefox - menu items or keyboard access-keys or a combination of the two.''
If you want that other Bookmarks button see this. <br />

Did you even try using '''{ Ctrl + B }''' to see what I am talking about?

  • The bookmarks sidebar will not show bookmarks. Even if I import them or restore them. In the menu bar they show up fine. How can this be fixed?

If I open the bookmark's sidebar it's empty. If I use the Menu Bar, the bookmarks are all there. I tried importing them from Internet Explorer but they still do not show up on the sidebar. I also tried restoring but they still don't show in the sidebar. After restoring and importing, I now see 3 bookmarks but that's all. I also am unable to delete those 3 bookmarks as "delete" is grayed out. Also, if I try to bookmark a page through the bookmarks in the menu bar, and I want to select a different folder, I can only see 5 items down, where as before I could choose if I wanted to save the bookmark in an existing folder of my creation which was further down. Is there a way to fix this?

hello Cronus, you might have to expand the default entries (toolbar, menu, unsorted) in your sidebar first before you get to your actual bookmarks/folders.
otherwise please try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once, to rule out the interference of any addons: [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
in order to specify the exact path of a newly created bookmark click on the arrow at the right side of the folder field as shown in the screenshot attached.

  • How do I delete my Bookmarks on a Macbook Pro? According to the directions on "Help" it says to open the Bookmark icon and delete from the right. I don't see anything on the right.

I have opened the Bookmark Icon. I see individual bookmarks on the left side of my computer screen. There isn't anything on the right side of my screen so how do I remove my Bookmarks?

Highlight the Bookmark...hit the delete key.

  • I can no longer adjust the width of the Bookmarks Sidebar, how do I fix this issue?

In the past I could hover my mouse arrow over the slider vertical bar to the right of the sidebar and get a 2 headed arrow that I could use to adjust the width of the Bookmarks Sidebar but that stopped working. I need to fix this issue. What do I need to do?

Maybe something you installed to Firefox messed up that feature.

  • How do I set Firefox 29 to always show the bookmarks sidebar with one click instead of a drop down menu?

I've decided to just get used to Firefox 29 instead of messing with add-ons and what not to make it look like it used to but one thing that is too ingrained is a favorites/bookmarks sidebar with one click. I just don't like the drop down menu. Is there a way to set the "Bookmarks" button to show the sidebar in one click?

I want the bookmarks sidebar button. This should be a BASIC feature available, not something I need to install an add-on for to revert to some "classic restore". Why is something so straightforward and easy to use considered "classic", and everything has to be hidden and hard to see in this new version? All the colours in the new tabs BTW are are BLUE, and they blend in with the background at the top, you can't see the tab edges - whose bright idea is this?
