How do I overclock my Athlon XP 2100 T-Bred?

Here is my system:
MSI KT4V-L (MS-6712) Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2100 T-Bred CPU (currently 266 FSB, 1.7 ghz)
Two 256MB DDR-Ram Sticks PC2100 Kingston ValueRam
1. I hear I can overclock my CPU to 2.1 ghz. How do I do this?
2. Are there any heat concerns?
3. Will my memory sticks have to be replaced or adjusted?

Hi,
another thread, no  :D  this time ...
Netherscourge: your memory will definitely be a limiting factor ...
As for the "Overclocking Partner": manufacturers are more or less forced to advertise in such a way nowadays (and mostly the board will not be the first component to give in, also); I seriously doubt however that MSI will take responsibility for fried CPUs or charred RAM  )

  • Help me Overclock! :) KT3 Ultra-ARU & Athlon XP 2100+

Been trying some things out, and reading a LOT of stuff on overclocking, but still kind of confused by some of it. Wanted to see what you guys think I can do with the following:
    MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (Stock AMD Heatsink & Fan)
1.0 G (2 512 sticks) of RAM (Kingston ValueRAM) (With Thermaltake aluminum RAM cooler on one stick, with an attached fan that blows over both sticks.)
    MSI Geforce FX 5200
Just wanted to see if anyone had any success with this particular combination. It will be cooled by fans, and this is the case I have: http://www.xoxide.com/xviper.html
It has fans blowing right over the AGP and PCI slots, as well as a fan on the front blowing over the hard drives and an exhaust fan on the back of the case.
Here's some pictures if you need them:

    you are welcome mate.
if CPU became instable increase CPU Vcore with one step.
get a copy of Orthos to check CPU stability:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99013.0
set priority to 7, and 1st test (Small FFT's) when error appear there increase CPU Vcore with one step and retest.
I'll keep that in mind. Got the FSB at 155 now - gona start moving slower.
Got another question if you don't mind - You said to force the memory clock to 133 - i'm not sure how to do that. It seems locked. Here's my options for the SDRAM stuff in the Bios:
Configure DRAM Frequency: SPD or USER
    SDRAM Frequency: HCLK/HCLK+33/SPD
    CAS# Latency: 2/2.5
    Row Precharge Time: 2T/3T
    RAS Pulse Width: 5t/6t
    RAS to CAS Delay: 2t/3t
    SDRAM Bank Interleave: Disabled/2-way/4-way
    SDRAM Burst Length: 4QW/8QW
    SDRAM IT Command: enabled/Disabled
    Fast Command: Normal/Fast/Ultra
Now, when Configure DRAM Frequency is set to user, I can mod everything in that menu - however as soon as the FSB is set to 166 the SDRAM Frequency can only be set to HCLK - the other options disappear. But, even at 165 it can be set to HCLK, HCLK+33 or SPD.
Not sure what to do there. And, are they any other options you would reccomend changing in that menu?

  • Overclock AMD Athlon II X2 250 on MSI 760GM-P21 (FX)

I want to overclock AMD Athlon II X2 250 on motherboard MSI 760GM-P21 (FX), integrated video card from motherboard and MS-TECH VERTIGO 520W 80+ power supply.
But before buy this power supply I had a NoName 400w.
And when I oc on NoName PSU after 3,3 ghz I receive BSOD.
How to oc more than 3,3 ?
    Ty.

The CPU itself would work just fine up till the current draw exceeds the limit of CPU VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) and fry it. Even tho it's listed as supported don't use CPU over 95W and even then under heavy loads for longer periods of time a 95W CPU could possibly cause damage also. If using a 95W don't OC it any. The VRM on the 760GM was never intended for 125W CPU.
The only reason the 125W CPU is listed is because competing brands show support for them and MSI made the wrong decision to list them also just for competitive marketing purposes.

  • Trying to overclock kt3 w/ xp 2100+

    Hey,
I'm new to all this overclocking stuff.  I have a kt3, athlon xp 2100+, 512 mb corsair pc 2700.  My psu is an Antec smart power 350W.  At this point, all I can do is push my fsb speed from 133 to 140.  Anything past that prevents my system from POST and I have to clear the CMOS.  I tried unlocking by shorting the L1 bridges, but obviously it didn't work since i only have few multipliers, 11-13.  I have flashed the BIOS already to the most recent.  What are some ram timings that I should set since I have memory that is meant for it?  My cooler is that valman 6000 flower from compusa, if its not good enough let me know so I can take it back.  Please give me some advice to start with.
    Thanks

Hey mbrogz3000, your 2100+ CPU cannot overclock much more than it's already running at default (1.73GHz).  I'd say the most it can do is 140MHz x 13.0 which you've already tried giving you 1.82GHz. Getting a good watercooling kit will only give you 1.90GHz at most. If you get an extreme cooling rig such as the Vapochill PE: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDAw which runs your CPU at sub-zero temperatures, you'll probably get around 2.2GHz. However, the Vapochill can cost you over $500US when all is said and done. If you had a liquid nitrogen set-up you can probably get close to 3.5GHz  ) ... of course you'd need to constantly fill in the LN2 while the computer is running. If you want to unlock the multipliers, I suggest you go here: http://www17.tomshardware.com/howto/20011112/athlonxp2000oc-03.html even though I'm not a fan of Tom's Hardware to say the least. By the way, do not refer to Tom's Hardware Guide for any other sort of information as he offers bias information.
If you would like to be a computer geek, I suggest you go to http://www.hardocp.com and http://www.anandtech.com daily. After a few months of browsing through their site, you'll become a pro in no time.
Just remember that lowering your multiplier and raising the FSB will not make your CPU overCLOCK more. You'll simply just raising the bandwidth (FSB) the CPU is communicating with your motherboard while your CPU runs at the same clock speed.

  • Overclock AMD Athlon Xp 2800+

Hey, how much do you think I could overclock my athlon xp 2800+ with stock cooling, mi psu i've got now, my current RAM, and, case without any fans. And how much with this psu: http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W001011.htm this CPU FAN: http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/venus/rs/a1838.htm and this case: http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCase/vm3000/vm3000a.htm . OK, thanks for your help :P.

man, with that new stuff you have listed there you could hit speeds over 3200+
my brother has a 2800+ oc'd to 3200+ with that silent boost HSF and he runs at mid 30's idle (room/case temp high 20's).  your ram is fine, as it is pc3200 and will run 1:1.  so, looks like youre building a nice new setup

  • Athlon XP 2100+ Temperature question...

My Athlon XP 2100+ idles at around 126-130 degrees Farenheit and under a big load, gets up to around ~145.. I've never had any problems that seemed heat related.. I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (with arctic silver) and have 2 fans sucking air out (and boy it comes warm) and 4 in the front blowing in, but i unplugged 2 of them cause it was too damn loud!
any suggestions? I've been taking the case panel behind the motherboard off to help keep it cool.. the case panel facing the cpu/motherboard has an exhaust fan on it...
Are these temps outta control? Anyone else got a 2100+? what temps do you get? What HSF do you use?

Heheh Thanks gfilitti.. I made the comment that the heatsink would make a nice bookmark too, that's a damn brick of copper! It is FAR better than the stock AMD Heatsink that came with my 2100+ which used to idle somewhere around 140 degrees and would get into the near 160's when i but some load on it (ripping a dvd, just to see what the temp would get to)...
I'm gonna looking into the Volcano 9 ( I do like the Thermaltake stuff) and i know that the CFM it pulls off the Heatsink is a great deal higher than the 7+, and it's only like 1db louder..
Thanks guys... If anyone else has some 2100+ temps or stories, please post them, as this is all great research.

  • How do I Overclock CPU?

I have a p6610f with Windows 7 64-bit. Default bios to my knowledge. My cpu is a AMD Athlon II X4 635. Wondering how I should go about overclocking. I've tried going to bios but I don't see any settings pertaining to voltage, etc. When I try to use AMD OverDrive all the applicable buttons are greyed out.

    Hi,
Most brandname machines do not allow users to overclock. Most likely you have to build your machine by yourself or buy a prebuilt from a normal vendor. One reason many bands do not sell overclock machines is warranty. Even they are big companies but they can not support/afford their machines return home after few months.
This guide shows you how to:

  • Flash Is Slow/Crashes? How can I OVERCLOCK Flash?

This is clearly not an isolated problem as multiple similar inquiries have already been made on this topic:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5577432#5577432
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/933530
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3722411#3722411
Moreover, you always hear users of Flash jokingly (and sometimes not so jokingly) complain about how Flash is slow and/or crashes all the time.
While sometimes this is attributable to memory and CPU of the computer, often times it's not.
This is one of those times it's NOT.
(Using Adobe CS6 Flashx64 in WIndows 8; working on relatively large animation file.
1.Have set priortiy as high as possibly can (Realtime),
    2.Set Publish Cache preferences to:
4600MB for Disk cache size limit
4600MB for Memory-cache size limit, and
4600MB for Maximum size for memory cache entry).
(yes, I'm serious about the whole overclocking thing)
However, Flash sometimes slows down/crash when importing huge symbol from one flash file to another, during playback, for .swf creation, etc.
My CPU remains at an annoying low of 21% used and high of 3.0/7.9 GB during Flash's most intense (aka slow) moments, so it can't be due to that, I think?
As side, I'd like to try to make this thread the default go-to for people who are tired of Flash crashing and just want to set everything up so that if Flash is laggy and crashes, it will only be because of computer limits (not enough RAM or CPU) as opposed to any other junk (like arbitrary Cache limits on program or file or something, .fla is crazy big).
So any and all Flash optimization tips (including changing Windows settings) welcome!

    Easiest to Hardest to Implement
    Do not use Filters.
Always use reverse for-loops and avoid do-loops and avoid while-loops.
Explicitly stop Timers to ready them for gc (garbage collection).
Use weak event listeners and remove listeners.
    Strictly type variables whenever possible.
Explicitly disable mouse interactivity when mouse interactivity not needed.
Replace dispatchEvents with callback functions whenever possible.

Always use cacheAsBitmap and cacheAsBitmapMatrix with air apps (i.e., mobile devices).
    Reuse Objects whenever possible.
Event.ENTER_FRAME loops: Use different listeners and different listener functions applied to as few DisplayObjects as possible.
Pool Objects instead of creating and gc'ing Objects.
    Use partial blitting.

  • [nForce] Help! Help! How can I overclock my pc??

in my signature are my specs:
how can i run my pc from 1900mhz to 2200mhz or higher.. my fsb speed is 175 x 11.0.. help plss!!

    Hi
There is a good sticky at the top of the overclocking page by Kingfisher that explains a lot about how to overclock.  I suggest that you read it if you haven't already.

  • How can I overclock my RAM

    Hi,
I have the system written in my signature.
My FSB is 398.4 and my Core Speed is at 2191.2
My RAMs are at frequenced at 166Mhz. And they work as DDR 333mhz Dual channel 512x2.
Is there any way I can overclock these RAMs to work at DDR 400?
    Thanx in advance.

if you set your dram:fsb ratio to 1:1 it will make the ram frequency the same as the fsb.  you will not likely be able to OC your ram in dual channel.  i dont know how well the ram will OC either.
    good luck

  • How do you connect a Satellite Pro 2100 to a TV?

Is it possible to connect this laptop to a tv using the video out jack? If so what do you have to do? Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi
As far as I know this unit support a TV-Out Composite RCA Video-Port at the back side.
To connect a TV please follow these steps:
    1. turn the PC off
    2. Use the video cable to connect the TV to the video
    3. turn the TV on
    4. turn the notebook on
    5. use the FN +F5 key combination to change the display device
If the TV is connected to the notebook, please set the TV in the display properties.
To set the TV types please follow these steps:
    1. Go to the display properties
    2. click the setting tab and click the advanced button
    3. click on nView tab, click device settings and click the select output device
    4. select the TV in the output device tab
    5. Select the format box and select the format that your TV supports.
PS: I would recommend reading firstly the user manual. There you can find many useful tips

  • Overclocking XP 2100

Well sometime I plan on overclocking my Athlon XP 2100.  I messed around with just changing the FSB because it is locked so I can't mess with the multiplier.  I could only could get it to run at 140 FSB stabily which is like 1.85 gigs.
First question, why can't I get any higher on the FSB?  Is it just because I need to lower the multiplier?  Then, will the wire trick work to unlock it?  I heard that was only for 2400s.  Last of all, what have you guys gotten your 2100s up to, and what are your settings?
I plan to get better RAM on my birthday so it doesn't bottleneck the processor.
    Thanks in advance.

takki, there's no difference in stability whether fsb overclocking or multiplier overclocking.  at least from everything i've encountered.  a multiplier overclock is useful cause it only runs your processor higher.  fsb runs your ram and mobo high.  so basically if your mobo does 133 fsb and ram only is pc2100 than multiplier overclocking will get you higher.  there's no reason you can't combine the two though.  a higher fsb will get you better bench mark results and performance increase than an increased multiplier.
LFN_FAN, that temp is way to high.  buy some arctic silver 3 and reseat the heatsink.  what heatsink you got by the way?  maybe that's the problem.

  • Overclocking motherboard with chipset Sis 746FX ? :(

Hello, I can´t find in BIOS from MSI 74F Ultra (chipset SiS 746FX) any value, who can I change the fsb or core voltage. On motherboard aren´t any jumpers, too.
How can I overclocking my Athlon XP on this board?

There is a 1Mhz incremental FSB control in the BIOS. You can also O/C via the Fuzzy Logic thingy quite safely in my experience. (XP2400+ @143 x 15, 1.65v) I think that an improved BIOS giving Vcore and Multiplier control would be much better tho. MSI may have to do that to compete with the up and coming K7S2 from Iwill, that will have all of those O/C controls.
