How do i overclock???

:undecided:i do not anything about overclocking... i just know that overclocking make the system a little bit faster, so im just curious to know...
i have a msi 648f Neo (ms-6585 (v5.x) atx mainboard. with a p4 2.4 800Mhz system bus supporting HT... ddr memory... i havent done any bios update. cause i do not know what the hell that does..
so if someone can take me step by step.. it would be great, and if u recommend me to overclock knowing that im new on this...
thanx!!

  • Flash Is Slow/Crashes? How can I OVERCLOCK Flash?

This is clearly not an isolated problem as multiple similar inquiries have already been made on this topic:

Moreover, you always hear users of Flash jokingly (and sometimes not so jokingly) complain about how Flash is slow and/or crashes all the time.
While sometimes this is attributable to memory and CPU of the computer, often times it's not.
This is one of those times it's NOT.
(Using Adobe CS6 Flashx64 in WIndows 8; working on relatively large animation file.
1.Have set priortiy as high as possibly can (Realtime),
    2.Set Publish Cache preferences to:
4600MB for Disk cache size limit
4600MB for Memory-cache size limit, and
4600MB for Maximum size for memory cache entry).
(yes, I'm serious about the whole overclocking thing)
However, Flash sometimes slows down/crash when importing huge symbol from one flash file to another, during playback, for .swf creation, etc.
My CPU remains at an annoying low of 21% used and high of 3.0/7.9 GB during Flash's most intense (aka slow) moments, so it can't be due to that, I think?
As side, I'd like to try to make this thread the default go-to for people who are tired of Flash crashing and just want to set everything up so that if Flash is laggy and crashes, it will only be because of computer limits (not enough RAM or CPU) as opposed to any other junk (like arbitrary Cache limits on program or file or something, .fla is crazy big).
So any and all Flash optimization tips (including changing Windows settings) welcome!

  • How can I overclock my RAM

    Hi,
I have the system written in my signature.
My FSB is 398.4 and my Core Speed is at 2191.2
My RAMs are at frequenced at 166Mhz. And they work as DDR 333mhz Dual channel 512x2.
Is there any way I can overclock these RAMs to work at DDR 400?
    Thanx in advance.

if you set your dram:fsb ratio to 1:1 it will make the ram frequency the same as the fsb.  you will not likely be able to OC your ram in dual channel.  i dont know how well the ram will OC either.
    good luck

  • How do I Overclock CPU?

I have a p6610f with Windows 7 64-bit. Default bios to my knowledge. My cpu is a AMD Athlon II X4 635. Wondering how I should go about overclocking. I've tried going to bios but I don't see any settings pertaining to voltage, etc. When I try to use AMD OverDrive all the applicable buttons are greyed out.

    Hi,
Most brandname machines do not allow users to overclock. Most likely you have to build your machine by yourself or buy a prebuilt from a normal vendor. One reason many bands do not sell overclock machines is warranty. Even they are big companies but they can not support/afford their machines return home after few months.

another thread, no  :D  this time ...
Netherscourge: your memory will definitely be a limiting factor ...
As for the "Overclocking Partner": manufacturers are more or less forced to advertise in such a way nowadays (and mostly the board will not be the first component to give in, also); I seriously doubt however that MSI will take responsibility for fried CPUs or charred RAM  )

thanks bro.. :biggthumbsup:omg..after i applied it..my temp becomes 41 on idle..before this, it is 38-39...i've ran the intel burn test and it tells me that my system is running stable on 3.33GHz...  ..
by the way, when i let it on stock (3.0GHz), my cpu-z shows my core speed 2400 GHz and only 6.0 for my multiplier, wherelse in the bios stated my core speed is 3.0ghz and multilplier is 9.0..this is acutually the stock one...why is that in the cpu-z is different from the actual...
your 3dmark test for your first rig is 21000... ..how do you make it till 21000..i've just test it on mine and it was only 16000... ...is it only depends on our graphic card..??..i'm using only GECube HD4870 512MB..

  • Overclocking the i7 3770K on Z77A-GD65 MB. HELP ME MY NEW FRIENDS!!!

Hi everybody! I really truly hope that someone can help me. I have tried to look EVERYWHERE with no good results... :(
I have a new Z77A-GD65 motherboard and an Intel 3770K processor running on it and I am trying to OVERCLOCK my system properly. You might think that who the hell is this bozo if he cannot overclock with the manuals and all..
Anyway, I really never have gone deeper into overclocking and I would sooooo much like to have a PRESET file (BIOS settings) which could give me about 4.5-4.8GHz frequency and then my memory is a whole another issue. I am able to run it at 1,6GHz anyway but I'd like to try more.
The thing is that I don't even know whether I should have that Genie II button enabled on the motherboard or not! I mean, can I overclock my MB even further if I have Genie button enabled? And then should I enable Genie II via the Control Center from within Windows 7 x64 too?? Or should I have that Genie button disabled from the MB and do everything "manually"? Frankly I know nothing and I am absolutely frustrated.
I know I would have to set some voltages and factors at various points but I find it too complicated. ASUS had a software that you could choose "turbo profile auto overclock" and that software just adjusted voltages and frequencies automatically, rebooting every once in a while until the system came unstable and it applied the latest stable settings. MSI should have that kind of an over-clocking software too!
So could you please reply for me stupid one and tell me that how should I overclock my system. Meaning all the possible settings that you could imagine. I have tried Googling of all the weird C1E's and C-states and HPET's and everything but it's just a mess. I just would like to get as much power out of my PC as possible. Period. I really would appreciate all kind of help.
And yeah, one more thing;;; when I have this MSI Control Center installed in OS then will it kind of "override" the BIOS settings done when booting up? I'm asking a lot of stupid questions but I have struggled with my new PC for four straight days and nights and my brains are starting to melt....
    PLEASE::::
    - give me the multipliers
    - voltages
    - other settings (like power settings)
    - DRAM timing mode and frequencies
    - EIST on/off?
    - Turbo mode on/off?
    - Enhanced turbo??
    - ANYthing you can ever think of.
I'll humbly wait for a reply. Thanks for reading.

There are a number of OC threads here to give some basics. First off, learn what the limits are for voltages, etc. Intel datasheets & design guides are a great source. I will give you two voltage limits, 1 - DRAM V. = don't exceed 1.65v's, 2 - CPU V. = for an everyday OC, don't exceed 1.400v's. Get yourself a digital multimeter. There are several OC methods, so pick the one right for your needs.

Btw if I may to add tips : try to overclock processor first with memory stay on default speed if we feels it is stable enough and want some more then go with the memory

just wondering how can i overclock my CPU w/ this rig coz i cant see any threads regarding this mobo, also i cant open up the BIOS of my system i have a windows 7 64 bit ultimate. hoping for some good advise.

Recommend to do all the bench tests at the original auto/stock/default settings, then you have something to compare later results with. In Reply #10, I have given some basic pointers at which to start. Soon as CPU V. is taken out of auto, you will lose any power saving advantages at low use & idle. Another quick & dirty way to do it is to set the CPU V. at the industry recommended maximum of 1.400v's, & start to increase the CPU Ratio up one step at a time until it fails to boot the OS. Keep in mind, load overshoot will usually spike the VCore past the 1.400v's at times in varying amounts. For gaming, OC'ing RAM is a wasted effort. After extensive testing, it made almost zero change in gaming performance on it's own.

    There is a lot of information in this thread that may be of use. This is basically one of the alternative ways to OC;

  • ATI Radeon X1600 overclock?

how can you overclock the video card? i've read that apple has underclocked the video card, so that the fans spin slower and quiet down the machine. stats on other machines say that the card runs at 470MHz(GPU)/470MHz (RAM). MBP runs at 310MHz(GPU)/ 278MHz(RAM). although, i don't want to install windows and download ATI Tools to do it. even if i wanted to i can't because i don't know where to find a FREE copy of windows with a working product key. any ideas?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2.33GHz CPU, 3GB RAM

Technically, it is not underclocked... it is clocked at the speed Apple has chosen to be optimal. Because the GPU may be specked higher, that does not mean that manufacturers have to max out the performance. As the MacBook Pro is Apple flagship notebook, they would likely have had a very good reason for setting the speed as they did. Likewise... most processors are capable of running at faster speeds as well... but are set to the speeds they are to manage heat and performance. Notebook processors are very often capable of being over clocked more than desktop processors as they tend to be manufactured to higher tolerances.
I guess the big question would be... Do you feel your graphics processor is not performing well for you as it is? How much of a performance boost are you looking to get by over clocking it? Do you think that performance boost will be worth the extra power consumption that the GPU will use... along with the increased use of the fan for additional cooling?

    Hi
There is no set figure on how far an overclock will go as each piece of hardware: cpu, motherboard, memory and power supply can limit the overclock.  It is all trial and error so be prepared to reset the cmos a few times.
Read the Kingfisher sticky at the top of the page as well as any other information that you can find to help you achieve the best, stable overclock.

Obviously it won't be one of the HDX models _ I couldn't look it up because the specs are not listed for any of the "tx" series.
Regardless, even if you did find a way to overclock it, most HP laptops are going to get quite hot, especially if you intend to game with it, I am assuming that is why you want to overclock it.
Even with a good 3 fan cooling matt the machine will fail with in a year or two.
I would be curios to know what machine  your friend is running ?
