How do I overwrite iCloud address book with local mac one?

When I first got 10.7, I had turned on Google sync in address book. Every person with a prefix or suffix on their name ended up with lots of extra cards (where the suffix became the last name, etc). After migrating my MobileMe to iCloud, I cleaned these out in my local address book app. They are still showing up in my iCloud account and iPhone, however.
How do I either reset the iCloud address book or force the sync from my desktop to overwrite the iCloud service's contents?
Cheers
J

Pull up your iCloud account on the Internet... log in... and then delete all of your contacts from Contacts.  Then turn on your iCloud sync on your computer (or iPhone)... it will ask you if you want to 'merge' your contacts... say 'yes'... and viola, your contacts from your computer have been merged with you contacts from iCloud (which was empty)... so now your iCloud Contacts should reflect exactly what was on your computer (or iPhone).

  • Replace icloud address book with Mac address book?

I just created my icloud account on my Mac- I already had it set up on my iphone.  When I did this, it pulled my address book from my icloud but my address book On My Mac is most up to date.  How can I replace my icloud address book with my Mac address book on my mac?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Go to users and groups and choose only your On My Mac Contacts to display.
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.
Delete the contacts from Address Book (using your delete key).
Now choose only your iCloud Contacts to display
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Delete the contacts from Address Book (using your delete key).
Make sure your iCloud account is your default account (preferences > general).
Select All iCloud contacts from users and groups.
Drag the file you previously dragged to your desktop back onto Address Book.
You might want to back up all your contacts before you begin.
Select All contacts in users and groups
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.

How can I synch the Address Book on my Mac to the Contacts on my iPad (or, can I setup Address Book on my iPad?)

Selected under the Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes.
With such a question, you should spend some time with the user guide.

How do I get iCloud to work with my mac that has snow lepard and is pre intel?

And it kills me that a friend who has pc computers and just has an iphone and ipad can breeze through all this with no problem and he still has XP.  So Apple goes back and helps old OS for pc but not for it's own kind!!!
Richard, I agree with you 1,000%. I wrote this in a forum a few weeks ago, when a user was complaining about Snow Leopard not supporting iCloud:
Why is it that if I bought a Mac before July of this year, I must pay to upgrade my operating system in order to take advantage of iCloud? Meanwhile, a Windows Vista SP2 user, who bought a new computer in May 2009, already has everything they need on their computer to use iCloud.
Why was it possible for Apple to write a free iCloud Control Panel that was compatible with existing versions of Windows, but Mac users must buy an entirely new operating system?
If Apple gave Mac users the same amount of backwards compatibility that it gives to Windows users, people with OSX 10.5 (Leopard) would be able to use iCloud. That's something to think about the next time you go to purchase a new computer.
(P.S. Something else to think about: If you bought a Mac before October 2007 (when OSX 10.5 was introduced), your computer won't run iTunes 10.5 unless you buy an upgrade. But a PC user, who purchased their computer as long ago as Sept. 2004(!), can run iTunes without an OS upgrade.)
I got so angry thinking about this, that I ended up writing an angry note to Apple on their feedback page. After repeating what I just wrote here, I asked them to commit to providing at least the same level of support to Mac users that they do for PC users when it comes to their cross platform products (iPhone, iPad, iCloud, Apple TV, Safari, iTunes, etc.) And, really, is that so much to ask?
I wish I knew how to start a petition requesting that Mac users get comparable treatment as PC users. But then again, shouldn't that go without saying?
Please leave feedback about this revolting double standard on the Apple feedback page. They should be thinking long and hard about why their own customers are treated worse than the customers of their competition.

  • Synching desktop Address Book with my .Mac Address Book. Is it possible?

Can i sync my desktop address book with my .Mac address book?
    Thanks.

I am also having this problem with my address book synching to .Mac. But my calendar and bookmarks have appeared with no problem so I'm not doing anything wrong -and I haven't created custom profiles either. Do you really think this is due to the lead up to Mobile Me? If so, why did the bookmarks etc sync with no problem? It is frustrating because this is what I really need to access.

  • I want to sync my iCloud Address Book with my partner's iPhone 3GS

My partner and I have two iPhone 3GS's. I have just spent a lot of time updating my iMAC's Address Book and got it to sync correctly with my iCloud account. Now I want to sync my Address Book with my partner's iCloud account. I have his account marked in my iMAC's Address Book Preferences, but it is not syncing. What to do?

The are the same. If you currently have [email protected] it will be the same content as [email protected]

  • How can I use my address book with message

How do I allow my address book to work in messages or do I have to populate it with a new list of phone numbers and email addresses?

Not sure what you are looking for. The iOS address book, Contacts, is used with all comunications apps such as Messages, Mail, FaceTime and the Phone app on an iPhone. Enter your contacts into Contacts including all known info including phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter and Facebook IDs as well as more info.
When you create a new message you can either start typing the address or tap on the button to bring up Contacts. Be aware you can only FaceTime and send Messages to other iOS devices. Other third party apps can expand on the messaging capabilities.

  • How do I sync my address book in my Mac to iPhone instead of my old blackberry

I stopped using the Backup Assistant over a year ago because it wouldn't backup the email addresses onto my blackberry even though it showed in Backup Assistant.
Now I got a new iPhone 4S and I want to use my Address Book in my Mac to the iPhone. How do I sync it to my Address Book?
How does that differ in syncing with iTunes?
    I already have iCloud.
Should I sync it to iCloud or my Mac Address Book (which really is already synced with iCloud, I think)?
I'm afraid to activate my iPhone until I have these questions answered.
    Can someone help me?

I don't have a Mac but on my windows if I go into my phone info on iTunes when plugged in I go to contacts and there are choices to choose from like gmail and windows then sync.  I assume when it's done on a max there is the same option on iTunes. If you go to iCloud.com and sign in you can check to see if your contacts are there. If you activate your phone it won't ruin what you have. It will ask you if you want to back up to what you have if there is anything. If you don't back up you can even if you say start fresh. I would go to an apple store if those things don't check out.

  • How do i add my address book from my mac to my iPhone4

i have my address book on my mac book and have connected and synced my new iphone4 but im not sure how to add something from my computer to my phone. . . . please HELP!

The iPad contact app and the computer's contact app are not the same. You can't create groups on the iPad. You can view the groups created on the computer when synced with iCloud. Not sure if synced with iTunes, but the iPad app won't change.
If you synced the iPad with iTunes before, then it should still show up as a device in iTunes. If you are using the new iTunes, the devices don't appear in the sidebar anymore. At the upper right hand side if the iTunes window, younshould see a box to show devices. Click on that.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • How to sync contacts and Address Book with New IPad?

    Hello!
I'm having no luck syncing Contacts. I've set iCloud settings to sync Contacts, as shown in the iPad manual. I want to sync Contacts on my new iPad with Address Book (5.0.3) on my laptop (10.6.8) and with Address Book on my iMac (10.5.8).
I've had some success by 'manually' using iTunes on the iMac and the laptop (iTunes>Devices>iPad>Info button>Sync Contacts>All Contacts). But this is not pulling contacts from the iPad to the iMac or laptop; not syncing, just one-way traffic.
    Thanks
    Potty

You'll have to update to Mac OS X Lion.
It's in the requirements listed at the bottom of this page -> Apple - iCloud - Your info up to date on all your devices.

  • How can I get my iphone to sync its address book with my mac?

I have iCloud configured to sync my address books, but they don't. I have all my contacts on my phone and want to be able to have them put onto my mac. I've never been able to figure this out. I used to have the sync address books setting selected (before iCloud), and it still never synced. I've read other discussions on this and have tried adding a contact to see if it prompts a message about merging contacts come up, but nothing seems to work. I have tried everything it seems. Any help?

You'll have to use Wi-Fi to sync, Bluetooth is not supported:
You can use iPhone with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and other Bluetooth devices, such as Bluetooth headsets, car kits, and stereo headphones. Third-party Bluetooth headphones may support volume and playback controls. See the documentation that came with your Bluetooth device. For supported Bluetooth profiles, go to support.apple.com/kb/HT3647
    From the manual: iphone_user_guide 5 page 109
Use iCloud to keep Contacts up to date on your iOS devices and computers
Go to Settings > iCloud, then turn on Contacts. See “iCloud” on page 17.

  • How do I share my Address Book with other users on same computer?

This continues to elude me. I tried Address Book sharing, syncing, etc. but they either didn't work or are way too slow. I just simply want to be able to use the same database for all users on the same computer. I'm really surprised that Apple doesn't offer this functionality.
I read one solution about creating a separate hard drive solution, selecting Ignore Permissions on it and moving the database to that and then setting up symbolic links for each user to point their Address Book database to that database. But this still seems like a major pain.
Is there not something more simple and reliable?
    Thank you.

No. You don't have to use an external drive and can put it in a folder in /Users/Shared and set inherited ACLs to allow different users to read/write to it as outlined in this [post|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7245381&#7245381]. You'll still need to erase original address book folders and put symbolic links to the shared folder if you do that. there is nothing simpler I'm afraid.

  • How to sync Address Book with multiple macs

What are the methods for having 1 address book and having them synced over multiple macs.
    I have:
    - 1 iMac (24 inch)
    - 1 Powerbook
    - 1 iMac (dome)
    - 1 iPhone
I'm using all of them (sounds weird, eh?) and I want to be able to have them synced automatically. One update on my iPhone reflects the other Address books.
    Cheers!

Agreed, $99 a year seems like a bit much if that's all you want to do.
If you trust web-based free email services like Gmail, you can export your Address Book(s) and those on other platforms and manage it from there.
Downside is that there is apparently NOT an 'export' back at the present time if you decide to change.
So, for now I use MobileMe for the convenience, because $99 a year is easier than wading through three or four different programs and operating systems on multiple platforms.

  • Sync Address Book With Quickbooks Mac 2007

Do I need to have a .mac account for this to work? I would assume the QB application and files which are on my computer would work the same as ALL the other programs which tap into Address Book for it's data. or is this just one more reason why I hate Quickbooks. Please give any instructions on how to make contacts in QB match my contacts in address book. Thanks!

I feel your pain man. My problem is the Address Book is not removing "customers" I have made Inactive in QB. And I can only assume that's because QB is not updating the information correctly so the Address Book can reflect those changes. I wish there was a manual command I could do in QB that allows you to update the data now. As opposed to it be done in the background. I mean how long does that take and why should I have to wait for that to take place. When I want to update something I want to do it then and there.
My business is service oriented and involves delivery of products. So when I build a new customer contact I have a Bill To address, Ship To address and phone numbers. Once updated in my Address Book I can then update my iPhone with the latest Address Book info. Then if a customer calls or I need to call them I can do so by name. And when it comes time for that delivery, I launch the iPhone Maps app, select that contact and I'm on my way. I can't tell you how cool that is.
So when it does work it is a beautiful system that saves time and duplication of data. But as it is now it's more frustrating then it's worth and just reflects poorly on Intuit and their failure to fix this problem.
