How do i partition using multi-disk install?

i've bought new hard drives for my ol' dual 800 quicksilver G4. it came with os9 and osX. i'm trying to restore using the original multi-restore disks that came with my G4, but with two partitions, one for each operating system. it doesn't appear to give me the option to set up partitions when i do the multi-disk restore. when i use the single disk to install each operating system, i'm able to select the option to partition, however, programs like itunes, idvd, imovie, are not installed when i use the single disc. of course i want to utilize these programs. is it even possible to partiton my hard drive with the multi-disk restore? and if not, how do i get all the programs on that aren't being installed?

Hi, shoot -
are you suggesting i use the single disks to create 2 partitions and install 9 and X on one partition. and then copy 9 onto the other partition? and then remove 9 from the partition that has both 9 and X on it?
Yes.
That will result in OSX being on one partition and OS 9 on another, which is what you described as your goal.
Yes, it is a clumsy way to get to a separation of OS's - but it is the only way when using the set of Restore disks.
The reason for that - the Restore disks do not install using a collection of files from which the installer chooses. Instead, the installer uses a disk image on the CD as a source - this disk image is an exact rendition of the hard drive's contents as originally shipped, and the only choice is all of it, as is.
On a stand-alone install disk, such as an OS 9 Software Install CD, the installer uses a rather extensive selection of individual files. It picks and chooses from amongst those in response to instructions it has been given - not only on what volume (partition) the install is made, but it also permits a Custom install which allows the user to adjust what is installed.
You might examine the contents of the OS 9 Software Install disk - those often contain additional software in the CD Extras folder, and in the Software Installers folder. These might include the items you're interested in - if so, you can install them as supplemental installs after installing OS 9.

  • How to transfer photos using target disk.

I am transferring my photos from my Mac Book Pro to an external harddrive using Target Disk. However when I open Iphoto from the external hard drive, it will only show the Iphoto lybrary from whichever computer I mount the Mac Book Pro on.
When I search "IMG" or "JPG" I can see some of the photos that were in my Iphoto lybrary however they are only thumbnails.
    My question is:
If i=I drag the Iphoto icon over to the external harddrive. After I wipe out my Mac Book Pro and re download all of the information that I put on the external harddrive,
Will my photos appear only as thumbnails, or will it be regular size in Iphoto?
Will they be organized the same way as they originally were in my Iphoto?

Frist you have to tap and hold the image in the email to see the "Save" option. Selecting this will save the image to Camera Roll in Photos. Once in Camera Roll you can upload the image through the Drop Box app either automatically or manually, however you have this option setup.

  • How can I partition internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

I recently purchased MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2011) model with OS X v10.7.2 Lion installed. I've upgraded to OS X v10.7.3 Lion and updated all other software.
I require Windows 7 for some Windows based softwares that do not support Mac OS X. Therefore, used Boot Camp 4.0 to install Windows 7 and then tried partitioning single internal HDD  to have 3 partitions (4 total including BOOTCAMP partition). Disk Utility created a 648.5MB partition and then I was able to create 3 other partitions of custom sizes. After applying these changes, I got an error message that said selected volume size is too small. I resized this 648.5MB partion to a custom size and had total 4 partitions, including BOOTCAMP.
After reapplying these changes, BOOTCAMP partition was removed and I was left with only 3 partitions and empty space.
I've tried several different ways to partition the disk, all in vein. Is there a way I can partition my single internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

You can't do what you want with GUI utilities, which will only allow a total of 4 partitions due to the limitation of MBR needed to support Windows. Those four partitions: EFI System (hidden), Mac OS, Recovery HD (hidden), Windows. So with Lion, you only get two visible partitions if you're going to use Windows with BootCamp. You can't make anymore with the included graphical tools.
If you need more partitions you'll need to use something like GPT fdisk (gdisk) to create the partitions in the GPT first. Then add the Windows partition only to the MBR and flag it as bootable. gdisk can be googled and downloaded for Mac OS X off sourceforge. It is not a GUI tool.

  • How to recover partition with osx after install

yea so i decided to install win 7 using bootcamp and made a partition for 50gigs. after following instructions the win 7 install menu came up were the partitions are located, and on the bottom it showed the partition i made for 50gigs that read (bootcamp partition) or something similar, anyways i clicked on it and it told me that win 7 could not be installed on that partition. so i clicked on advanced and then clicked on "format" again to reformat the partition again. after win 7 was installed succesfully and a few reboots later i cannot access or even see osx anymore. i know what and why its not showing up i just dont know how to reinstall the bootloader to access the partition again. does any dual boot loader work ok or what is the best way to make this work. thank you for any help in advanced.

When starting the system hold down the Option/Alt key to get a boot selection screen. Select Mac OS X to boot from. If by chance there is no OS X boot selection then you formatted the wrong partition and wiped out OS X. If that is the case you'll need to start over reinstalling OS X or restore from your Time Machine backup.

  • How do i partition my hard disk ?

i have a macbook pro 13" (october 2013) model..it comes with a 256gb flash drive so i want to know if it is possible to partition my disk?
    Thanks.

Of course. To partition the flash drive, use Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html
As detailed in that website, open Disk Utility, choose the flash drive at the top of the sidebar and go to Partition tab, so you can add and remove partitions.
Note that, if you have installed Windows with Boot Camp, you won't be able to modify your partitions. Boot Camp doesn't allow you to have more than two partitions in the hard drive, apart from the EFI and OS X Recovery partitions, although there are tricks

  • How to see threads using multi-cpus

    hi,
I Install Multi-Thread Java App in 4-cpus E420 using Solaris 8, I want to know if multi-threads are distributed run using 4 cpus. How to do that?
    --huangwenhui

According to "Java Threads v2" (or something like that) java threads on a Sun won't spawn extra threads unless they block OR a specific JNI call is made.
There is a tool is Sun which lists cpu usage including load percentage (naturally I can't remember the name.) You run that while your app is under significant load. All the cpus should display about the same load. If not then you probably need to look into the JNI solution.

Please do not confuse plsql collections with type objects.Well it's possible with persistent types but nested tables and varrays typically need to be explicitly initialized and extended.

  • Partition using Bootcamp and Windows 7

    Hi
Would it be a good approach to partition using Bootcamp then install Windows 7? Later I plan to install Parallells. Can it be down this way or should I install Parallels first, then Windows 7?
    Thank you.

You may have to see about using the Recovery HD partition to attempt to erase and restore useful function of the capacity lost to the former Windows installation.
And you may have to backup your contents outside the computer to do it. Disk Utility on the Mac OS X historically has not been able to touch a BootCamp created partition; so if BootCamp cannot remove it, then you have to see how to do the equivalent of a reformat of the entire drive (less Recovery partition?) then reinstall your OS X. Maybe from internet recovery, then get your applications, etc from the Mac App store, etc.
A complete system clone of your OS X on an external HDD would be another method to restore after reformat, of the portion you want whole again, not necessarily the space where Recovery may live.
    There may be (an)other way(s).
    Perhaps someone with recent experience
in this matter can reply & discuss options.
With my antiques, they almost know what I want before I tell them.
Hopefully yours will after you talk to it awhile.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Partition a startup disk

How do I partition a startup disk? Disk utility does not display a partition option.

Just open disk Utility and grab the bottom right hand corner of the partition layout area and drag it up to create free space below and the startup disk size you want.
    Then click the Apply button.
After that finishes click the Plus sign and that now free space will be another partition. Set name and format and click Apply again.
This will not erase or damage the startup volume.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • How do you make a bootable install partition from a disk image of an install disk.

I have an iMac g4 running Leopard and would like to install OS X 10.3 on a different partition Leopard is on. However the super drive in the iMac will not read the disk I have, so I used my MacBook Pro to make a disk image of the install disk to use to install on the iMac. I do not know how to make the disk image into a bootable partition so I can install 10.3. The person I bought it from has already created a partition of the Leopard install disk and it is bootable but I do not know how he did this. Please help me. Thanks!

Could be the cd is bad.  Could be a bad cd reader.
I' not sure what you are trying to do.
    To install,
--  you need to boot from a cd.
-- copy a working installation from another partition. try carbon-copy-cloner
-- could try target disk mode.  There is a cd sharing mode.

    Hello Everyone,
I have a MacBook older model with me.I am running 10.7.6 on that, I was trying to use BootCamp to install windows on my mac. Since BootCamp can only work on a single Volume, I partitioned my Hard Disk to one volume.
Using BootCamp I installed windows and everything worked fine. After installing windows and testing everything, I switched back to OS X and this time I tried to make another partition on my single portioned Mac volume and named it Backup. That too worked. Now I have three Volumes
    1)Development2)Backup3)BootCamp.
Next when I switched to Windows, It should the classic error, No Bootable device found, please insert a Bootable CD and press any key. When I tried to enter my Mac OS X install DVD and by pressing option key, it does not show me the proper Mac OS X development volume. It keeps going back to the No bootable device found message.
Any help will be much appreciated
    Regards
    Mithun

you can't add a partition in between - you put Windows to a new partition number.
    GPT (GUID)
    EFI
    Mac HFS
    Lion Recovery
    Windows
And now you have two HFS
One partition and one Windows (plus Lion Recovery).
If you were to have more, it can't be before Windows for one thing.

  • How do you install Tiger using target disk mode?

    Hi guys,
I have an old Powerbook G4 that seems to have a dead DVD drive, so i am now trying to install Tiger using target disk mode from my Macbook Pro.
I successfully mounted the G4 using target disk mode and the Tiger install DVD but when I double click the install icon, I get an error message saying: "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine"
Okay, fine but i want to install the OS on the G4. How do I go about selecting the G4 for installation?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Nichola,
Have you tried a search on the support site with the error messages you are receiving? (Maybe your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run Tiger.)
To re-initialize your disk, go into disk utilities, select 'Erase' and follow the instructions. This will erase and format your disk. Hopefully this helps, but I'm not sure if it will solve your kernel panic problem - maybe that's a different issue all together??
Hopefully, you've already backed up your important data, but you should try to use target disk mode to do that if you are still unable to boot up the G4 using Tiger. Good luck - hope this is helpful.
