How do I paste into merged cells?

I have created a spreadsheet that includes some merged cells. I want to paste some information into them and across other cells in that row at the same time. When I paste the information, however, the merged cells are split and the data that are intended for columns beside the merged cell are pasted in the separate columns that make up the merged cell.
In other words, my third cell is actually composed of table columns C-F. However, because it is merged, I would expect it to function as a single cell. So I copy 6 columns of information, try to paste them into 6 cells (one of which is the merged one, C-F), and instead of it pasting into cells A, B, C-F (the merged one), G, H, & I, all of the data ends up pasting into A, B, C, D, E, and F, which defeats the purpose of merging the cells entirely.
Is there a setting I can change to make this work as expected?

Interesting problem. One thing I have found that seems to work is to select and copy the data, run a script that converts the clipboard to text, select the cells to paste to (all of them, not just the one where it will start), then 'paste and match style'. The script is a simple one:
set the clipboard to (the clipboard as text)
Another option would be to use TextEdit as an intermediary. Copy, Paste & Match Style into TextEdit, Copy, then, in Numbers, select all the cells to be pasted to and Paste & Match Style.
Not great solutions but that's all I got right now.

If you know how many rows/columns you are planning to paste, then make the table that big BEFORE you paste. In addition select all cells in the table by selecting any cell, then type the key combination <COMMAND>+a (for select all.
Then use the cells inspector to make the cells formatted as text:

To hide a row with Merged Cells, Un-Merge first, then Hide. Select the Merged Cells and Table > Unmerge.
Note that this is only a problem with vertically merged cells when you want to Hide a Row.
If you want to Hide a Column, you can't have a Horizontal Merge that involves that Column.

switch the Quick cut and paste option on,now select the data then
select the cells of the column and right click for paste.

My Report downloads data from R/3 to excel. Now one particular field contains multiple lines, which i needs to download into different lines into that particular cell(of excel). how can i do this.
I found one method for this and that is cl_abap_char_utilities=>newline.But this is in abap version 6.0.
But i am working in version 4.6c. do we have any method or anything that meets my requirement in 4.6c.

Is you special field long text?
If is ,you can use FM READ_TEXT to put it into an internal table ,then download it.

I'm not sure why you would expect something different. If you put something into a cell, then that is the contents of the cell. If you want to preserve the existing contents when pasting additional content, you don't want to paste into the cell, you want to paste into its contents.
Select the cell, then click again to put the insertion point into the contents, then Paste.

You are trying to copy a link, it is most likely in a different color such as the words "Microsoft's own forums" in his post. In Word highlight the word or words, control click on them, select Hyperlink, then Edit Hyperlink, then delete the link from the top box. It will then have a button asking if you want to "Remove Link", click on it.

Why when I copy a cell and paste into another it pastes into the middle of three cells? I was very fond of using numbers as it was straightforward and much better than Excel. But I made the mistake of installing Mavericks and Numbers 3.0. Now it is worse than Word at doing what it thinks it wants to do rather than what you want to do. I can no longer copy a cell and paste it into another. For some reason on pasting, instead of pasting into just one other cell it pastes into the middle of three cells - what the ****?

Problems placing graphic into table cell. It makes the iPad locks up when previewing that page.

I have 3 table cells that need a jpeg graphic placed into them.
I can paste a grahic into a table cell, but when i try to preview that page on the iPad, ibook shuts down. I must be placing the graphic wrong or formats are wrong, like object wrap or "inline" "floating" or "anchored". the graphic shows up in the fill once I copy and paste into the cell, but it doesnt show up when I look at the file info in the inspector. Also, once I preview the iBook author project on my iPad, that page will shut down the iBook app.

Well KT.....I tried that. But it still didnt work. I have 2 pages that have tables. The first page is just a full page with text only with a gradient colored screen in the table column heads. The 2nd page has the graphic illustration in the 3 table cells. Both pages shut down when opened to full screen view. But when i remove the graphic, there is no problem with a shut down. I know its got to be something you have to do but is unwritten in any manual.

How can I select rows of cells and merge them vertically into one cell in each column?

I'm working in CS4 and need to be able to select 2 to 6 rows of cells (with many columns) in a table and then merge the selected cells vertically into one cell in each column. A few cells in the chart will not need to merge so I must select the ones that do. I have almost 100 pages of charts with cells that need merged this way by Tuesday. Please help!
Top chart example needs to change to the bottom example.

How to Merge Cells in a JTable?

First, a brief background. I have a 1.3.1 Swing application, and have a custom table framework that is extended from Swing. My table model manages row classes. Each row class has its own collection of renderers and editors. Renderers and editors are never shared; each cell has its own. My custom table asks each row for the renderer/editor as needed. This allows the GUI programmer to customize every cell of a row class, down to the renderer/editor, including which cells are editable. Essentially, my custom table framework puts all the brains into row classes. Each screen has its own row class. So, it's very granular but very powerful. However, I need more power.
I need a way to merge cells across columns (column spanning). These merged cells do NOT need to be editable for now. I don't know how I can get the table to render one cell across others in the same row. I suspect this is largely a painting issue, and could really use some help.

Thanks for the direction, Ian! That got me on my way.
I subclassed BasicTableUI and copy-pasted the private methods into my subclass, and made them protected. I then modified the paintCell( ) method to change the rendering for the particular table row I'm interested in (test case).
To make the first cell span the entire row, I changed the width of the painting rectangle to be the width of the table, instead of the width of the cell. I also had to NOT render any other cells in that row, so they wouldn't "interfere" with the first renderer. In other words, if I allow cell 3 to be rendered, it will prevent cell 0 from spanning, since cell 3 is rendered AFTER cell 0.
Here's an example of my proof-of-concept (POC):

        rendererPane.paintComponent(g, component, table, cellRect.x, cellRect.y, table.getWidth(), cellRect.height, true);
    return;
}You can see that only cell 0 will be rendered, and it will be as wide as the table.
My next step will be to experiment with multiple spans in the same row, and then having a cell in the middle span the entire row. I'll post my results for the sake of posterity.

[CS3/CS4 JS] How can you get the associatedXMLElement of a merged cell in a table?

Inserting a table, and autotagging it, I get a table with a number of cell elements in the XML Structure.
Selecting an item in the table, I can find the associated XML by the following line of code:
app.selection[0].associatedXMLElement
My problems begin when cells are merged. Then the associatedXMLElement for the cell returns null.
How can I find the associatedXMLElement for a merged cell?
Using the getElements makes no difference.
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].associatedXMLElement
(returns null)
In the XML structure I can see that the merged cell is still associated to an XML Element, which becomes underlined and also referrs back to the cell, selecting it when double clicking the XML Element link in the structure.
Is there no way to get to the xml element of a merged cell?
I have tested in CS3 and CS4 as well, and they act in the same way.

Adding some more info:
I made a test, by selecting the XMLElement in the structure, and from that object finding the cell, and finding back to the assiciatedXMLElement:
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].cells[0].associatedXMLElement
Result: [object XMLElement]
So that kind of "chain" works.
But with the merged cell as only reference, I can't find its associatedXMLElement. Any ideas would be appreciated.

In my opinion, locate a cell according to his content is not so effortable. What happens if contents of more than two cells are equals?
I take xml elements of associated xml element of table and put them into an array.
This array contains associated xml elements of every cell ordered by cell positions into table.
Now, locate associated xml element of a cell based on its array position (index) is more reliable:
var myCell_cell = app.selection[0];
var myElement = myCell.associateXMLElement
if (!myElement || !myElement.isValid) {
     var table = myCell.parent;
     var xml_tab = table.associatedXMLElement;
     var xml_cells_arr = xml_tab.xmlElements.everyItem().getElements();

     myElement = xml_cells_arr[idx];
