How do I pause streaming audio?

How can I scroll or pause a "streaming" program?
I don't know if it even counts as streaming because its downloaded from the internet (opens with iTunes - default). I know it can be done, because I contacted the program's source by e-mail.
I listen to the This American Life's archives (thislife.org) almost everyday at work. Up until now they've been exclusively using RealPlayer, but they've "dumped" them. I sent them an e-mail to see if I was missing something. The rep from the program assured me that they use iTunes themselves & have no problems pausing the program. It really *****, because I have to start the show over every time I answer the phone or go to the printer or whatever. Its an hour long show so eventually I just give up. My boss, my boyfriend & even my IT department at work all have no ideas. Anybody out there got any thoughts?

I went back to the site and tried the first episode on the list (the most recent). The show started up & in the upper left of my iTunes player I had the pause button option! Before it had only offered "stop" (the FF & REW took me back to the beginning of the episode). So that's good.
BUT, when I went back further into the archives, the pause button wasn't available, only stop, just like before. I did the get info > options, but "remember play position" is grayed out so its not an option.
Is there anything else I should consider?

Pause Streaming Audio

I'm trying to pause streaming audio with a "pause" button.
However, when I click the "play" button, the audio begins a few
seconds after where it stopped.
My theory is that the "pause" button isn't recording where
the audio stopped playing; it's actually recording where the audio
stopped loading. So if ten seconds of audio has played, but twenty
seconds of audio has loaded, the "pause" button will record the
pause position as twenty seconds, and the play button will start
the audio at twenty seconds.
Does that sound like a reasonable theory? Does anyone know
how this might be fixed?

Looks like my theory was wrong! When I hit the "pause"
button, it records a number that corresponds to a point in the
audio stream, but that number does not correspond to the point at
which the audio stream was paused -- it's somewhere between two to
five seconds later. I have no explanation as to why this is!
So I guess my revised question is: has *anyone* been able to
get the "pause" and "play" buttons to work properly with
*streaming* audio? I've come across some comments that suggest that
it might not be possible, but I've never seen it explicitly stated
that it's not possible.
In other words: should I give up?

How do I embed streaming audio into a PDF?

I've seen threads and question on embedding a YouTube video which I can do, but haven't seen anything regarding streaming audio embedding. There are music sites out there that let you embed their song players (Soundcloud for example), how would I go about doing that?
I also wouldn't mind embedding a YT player w/only the player controls as well (see below), but I can't figure out how to do that either. Your help is greatly appreciated, being trying to figure out how to do this for hours now.
FYI, I know how to embed audio, but I would rather stream the audio to keep the file size small.

It will be a series of MP3's, when I tried copying and pasting the embed code I get an error that reads "Unsupported 3D file format" . Below is the embed code I pasted into Multimedia-->Flash Tool

I am having difficulty embedding streaming audio into Keynote. I know how to embed an actual song into it, but since I want to keep the file size small, I would rather embed a song player from one of the many music sites that enable you to do this (Soundcloud). My presentation will have a lot of audio files in it, that's why I want to stream.

Hi, I desperately need help with this issue:
Is there anyway I can turn "OFF" the speakers so sound does not come from them, but STILL have audio levels active internally so I record streaming audio with my NCH software Wavepad program?
I've been trying everything .. in the Control Panel setup, I am trying to "capture" streaming audio with my Wavepad program, but I can only attenuate the "mic" levels that the actual laptop picks up .. for example, if there's background noise in the room, it picks that up - I DON'T WANT THAT! - I only want the streaming audio from a recording - not the background sounds in the room.
Folks at NCH Software keep telling me to check with laptop of Windows advice.
Wavepad used to do this easily and cleanly before (well, on other computers and other Windows versions)
If I go into Windows Mixer, and turn down Speakers, it also forces to turn down System Sounds - I do not want system sounds down; only speakers.
Summary:
I want to record streaming audio into my audio capture software.
I want to independantly cancel laptop speaker output, while maintaining audio levels for streaming capture.
I DO NOT want extraneous sounds in the room's background picked up by the laptop's mic, which then interferes with the recording.
(or is there a Windows program that will do this for me? I spent $$$ on the deluxe Wavepad software ,, but it's not doing what it used to do)
Any help, or advice will be GREEEEEEatly appreciated!!!

Fixed (I think ....?)
Turns out there's no "Stereo Mix" option in my Control Panel sound boxes .. apparantly no one else has it either in Windows 7??? depending on sound card ...
Well, a work-around is to connect a male mini-plug "Y" into [one of] the laptop's headphone outs; then run a mini-plug cord (male-to-male) from it to the laptop mic "in" ... that leaves one unused female mini-plug on the "Y" .. which you can then run your headphones (or speakers ) off of.
Found that solution online .. got the parts; it works now.
Still baffled why there's no "Stereo Mix" in Windows 7 ....?

I am a novice webmaster managing the website for our arts organization. I am trying to build a simple table on a page of our site that will have about 30 streaming MP3 audio clips for our members to review. I'm using Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3 to host and stream these files (using an embedded JW Player?). Can someone explain to me how to insert these media files into my Dreamweaver page in the most simple way?
Up until now, I've been just inserting downloadable MP3 files as quicktime plugins (also hosted at Amazon S3) but with 30 files that gets pretty cumbersome because they all begin to progressive download at the same time.

Flex: How to send Microphone Stream Audio data to a Rest API

I needed to capture audio via a microphone and then sent ths instantanesouly to a REST API for processing. I do not want to use a media server.
So is it possible to send instataenous audio stream data to my custom servers.

well i tried this once for one of my scripts and the final conclusion is its not possible to combine two streams into 1.....how would you time/encode the two voices......there is no know solution to this in flash. If you continue on despite me and find a solution please post it so we can explain to rest of world.

I am implementing an universal app. In which I used MPMoviePlayerViewController for playing streaming audio and its working fine. But when there is call during playing the streaming audio it stops. It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop. And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

To be honest the times we've wanted to have music from more than one set of speakers, I've usually used my mac's iTunes library and controlled it either from the mac or from my phone, since they're not really the times we have any TV on anyway. Phone 8.1 apps. I'm under the impression that background audio is done differently in Windows Phone 8.1 from Windows 8. The

It's a good overview, but does not explain how to play audio from a stream rather than a file. That's what I'm stuck on.

Palm Pre - Here is how to create a web bookmark to launch a streaming audio site

Once you have a URL that you have confirmed as working with the Pre to play streaming audio, unfortunately you can't create a bookmark when playing the streaming audio. Here is a way you can create a bookmark to easily launch the site again to play the streaming audio:
My example is for WHYY the PBS station in Philadelphia.
You can either create a new bookmark or use an existing one you don't use. If you create a new bookmark you can set an icon you want to use.
Use this process if you are creating a new bookmark.
1a. I entered the URL for WHYY, http://www.whyy.org, so I could create an icon with the visual for WHYY. This step is not necessary and doesn't need to be related to the streaming audio content, it just allowed me to get the icon I wanted.
1b. With the WHYY site loaded I choose Menu>Add Bookmark
1c. I touched on the icon at the top of the window and adjusted the boundaries to just include the WHYY logo
2. I then touched in the URL line and changed the URL to http://207.245.67.204/listen.pls
3. I then touched the "Add Bookmark" button
Use this process if you are using an existing bookmark that you want to recycle. This bookmark will not be usable in its old form again.
1a. Within a web card tap Menu>Bookmarks to display the existing bookmarks.
1b. Find the bookmark you want to use and tap the information button, "i", at the right
2. Then tap in the URL line and change the URL to http://207.245.67.204/listen.pls
3. Then touch the "Add Bookmark" button
That's it. You can now choose "Web" from the Launcher and touch the new bookmark and the streaming audio will launch.
