how do i permanently delete an icloud account that i no longer use?
Just sign out of it on all devices and forget about it.
You can't completely delete the account from Apple's servers, but you can delete the data stored in it at iCloud.com.

A repeated series of rebooting between signing out and deleting iCloud accounts from Address Book and iCal had to occur before the signout would stick. Depends on how you archive, I'll assume that you made an ABBU (Address Book Archive) rather than a vCard file, doing so included the account as well as the content.

Correct, exactly as exporting a vCard file from the export menu would have (drag and drop makes a vCard file)

Lesson 4: If you highlight and export each individual calendar to your iMac, you can import later without iCloud reactivating. However ...
However what?
Lesson 5: If you have synced any Gmail accounts in iCal, this will interfere with the importing. Even if you say "new calendar" in the prompt, it will load it to the Gmail section and then give you an error. To solve this problem, one needs to de-activate the calendar portion of Gmail from System Preferences/Internet Accounts. Gmail must remain disconnected from iCal until all individual calendar imports are finished, then it can be reactivated.
Gmail has nothing whatsoever to do with iCloud, it's a Google service and it follows Googles rules.
PS. When someone says they have been at it for "hours", please assume that they had the intelligence to take the normal, necessary steps. If "signing out" had worked, there would have been no need to come into this forum, under great stress and duress, and ask for help.
It seems that you did not take the normal steps (for a Google account), but I am glad you got there in the end. -
How to completely, totally delete iCloud account?

I want to delete an iCloud account that is not relevant any longer.
And I want to completely erase, nuke, wipe it out from the servers of Apple.
Now, to my great surprise, it appears to be impossible: read this.
Also I've seen this thread and this one.
All these links tell that the account cannot be deleted: one can only "unlink" it from a certain device/computer.
But the account itself, and all data (visible by users or hidden) remains with Apple forever.
This simply cannot be true, given the today's standards of privacy, retention of user data and so on.
So, can some kind soul point me to the instructions how to *totally* delete the account and all traces of it forever, using a PC or other, unrelated Apple device/Mac?
I wanted to delete the account of previous iPad user, who does not need it any more. I have all the passwords.
Then, I planned to create my own account.
But, if creating Apple account is an one-way road, I won't use iCloud or appstore, and likely will get rid of the iPad as well...

Have you tried syncing with your own computer. The one you used to sync the photos to your iPad in the first place?
Do you have a backup of your iPad on your own computer? Or in iCloud?
If your iPad is stuck to the Apple ID and password used by the different laptop have the owner of that laptop remove your device from their iCloud account. They can go to iCloud.com on their laptop, enter their Apple ID and password and then remove your iPad from their account.
Once you sign into your own Apple ID and password and then sign in to your iCloud account, many of your lost items should come back. Specifically these include your Contacts andCalendar entries. -

I am a visitor from India , I recently bought and iPad and to download some music and movies I created an iTunes account .
But I'm gifting this iPad to somebody and want to make sure that my iTunes account is deleted before giving it away.
I signed in to manage my account billing and purchases but the system merely allows me to edit my credit card info not totally erase it.
Also I don't want to just sign out and give it away, I need that no credit card info is in my iTunes account before giving it.
I've tried the obvious ways to manage and edit the account but I don't see anything to delete
Even restoring the iPad with the reset feature doesn't delete the account info , it just signs you out
I don't know though if erasing data on the iPad would help

When I try to delete icloud account (in settings-icloud-delete account) I have to put in the password for the apple ID of my old email address, which is no longer my apple ID, and it says username or password is invalid (I'm guessing because that is no longer my apple ID).
You will wait for the rest of your life. You need to fix it; no one else will. To turn off "Find my iPhone" and its associated Activation Lock you need the Apple ID and password that were used to turn it on. If you know the Apple ID you can contact Apple Account Security and have them reset the password (after you prove you are the rightful owner of that Apple ID). see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.

I fully agree darkslayer1234. If the app was free why is it still attached to my history? even if I paid for it I (and that's a BIG CAPITAL I) should have the freedom to delete it and risk paying again. This history thing *****, how many years will I be haunted by immature, inappropriate apps that I had 'thrown away"?
Someone at the planning stage just did not consider the full effect on the end user.

When I set up my new iPhone 5c I inadvertently used wrong email for setting up my apple id. I have since setup an id with correct email, but cannot verify the first account. I cannot delete it either. How can I get an iCloud account for this phone?

When deleting iCloud account, how can I save the photo's & other apps etc that are stored in iCloud?
I have recently changed my Apple ID as my email address has changed & also changed my password.
I posted a question yesterday about this & have since discovered from further searching here, that I need to delete and set up a new iCloud account as my iPad keeps asking me to login in with my Apple ID showing my old email address (& doesn't accept old (or new) password). Also, naturally, I can't back up with iCloud.
When I go to delete iCloud account a message appears that my photo stream (& presumably other stored apps etc?) will be deleted/ lost from my iPad too. I currently have no access to any other computer (when return home I have a windows lap top only). I am therefore very reluctant to delete my account in fear of loosing my photo's in particular.
Can any one help with the above please? Would all my stored data (phot's, apps etc) actually be deleted from my iPad when deleting my iCloud account? If so how else can I save (later restore?) my iCloud stored data?

When I went to change my details in the mail settings as you suggested, I was unable to do so. Yes- I could & did add my new email details that I changed to in my Apple ID. however I was unable to change the primary email & therefore iCloud still wouldn't recognise my new Apple ID & kept asking for my details under my old/ original email address.
Though I did search further after this in the iCloud web site & found further very similar questions to mine where users were successful by deleting the iCloud account.
So I went ahead & did this. As soon as I had deleted the account it asked me to login to iCloud with my new email address in my Apple ID which worked fine - & I have also retained all my data.
Again, I appreciate your help & time you spent in reading and answering my need for help.

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must use the previous owner's password to get permission to use the device. If you cannot get the password your father put on the iPad you will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.
