How do i permanently delete photos?

Hello
I have deleted photos from the event folder and emptied the iphoto trash.  But when i go back to the original folder in Finder i still see all the deleted pictures there.  is there a way to delete photos pemanently from all folders?  I have too many pictures and my computer cannot handle all the space required if i cant delete unwanted pictures.  thank you. Joana

assuming that you did all of this using only iPhoto then that is how you delete photos from iPhoto and your disk
Select a photo in an event (not in an album) - press the delete key and empty the iPhoto trash (iPhoto menu ==> empty trash)

How do I permanently delete photos or text messages?

    diesel,
When I look for an answer to a problem, especially a question that might already be answered, it's because: 1) I need an answer right away, and might not be able to wait a few hours or days for someone to respond, 2) I often don't know if a feature or problem was there from the early iPhones or is brand new, so my first thought is not "that answer is old, therefore irrelevant."
I know, "read the User's Guide." You sound like Mrs. Suggs, my third grade teacher. If I had taken up someone's time by posting a new question, I get the feeling you would have told me "Don't ask questions there are already answers to." But thank you for your help.

Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library
1 - from an Event or the Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc.: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from an Event deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.

  • How can I permanently delete photos from my boyfriends phone??

    Hi all,
My boyfriend has photos of me that I dont want him to have.
I've asked him to delete them but he jokes that he will.... eventually.
He has an iPhone 4S. I want to permanently delete some photos he has, I dont want him to be able to do some kind of sync or backup & have them again.
If I deleted them from his iTunes.. his desktop picture folders.. his PC recycle bin AND deleted them off his phone, will he still be able to find them?? Also if he does an update in the future, will they somehow appear again? And how can I know if he has synced them to iCloud/set up iCloud?
    Thanks in advance

    appletumblr wrote:
Theyre all in his Camera Roll. I've never downloaded/updated the iCloud control panel on my pc,
So he syncs only to your PC?
I dont think he has the Shared Photo Stream option on, but I'll check. If he does have it, is it simple to access it?
Open the Photos app, tap Shared at bottom to see any Shared Photo Streams.
My Photo Stream is in Albums.

  • How do I permanently delete photos from my hard drive?

    Hi.
I have deleted photos from my iPhoto but now I want them off my hard drive to increase space. I forget how to do this. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Margie

Move them form the library view (events or photos) to the iPhoto trash in the source pane on the left and empty the iPhoto trash - iPhoto menu ==> empty trash
Deleting them from an album deletes them only from that album not from the library or from disk

  • How do i permanently delete photos from icloud to free up storage?

My storage says that my phone is using 3.9 GB of the 5 GB available for the photos on my phone. I have deleted 230 of the 450 pictures from my camera roll and about 100 of the 200 on Photostream, however, iCloud still says I'm still using 3.9 GB. How do I remove photos from the cloud to free up space? What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I would really recommend to use another/second storage option (local on your Mac or PC) or service like Dropbox (a few GB) or Flickr (1 terra byte for photos) for storing your photos.
You could also just delet your old backup and then create a new one, which should also free up some space.

  • How do I permanently delete photos from IPHOTO??

I have tried everything and it never actually clears any space.
I always get some message like"the photos will still be visible"
Please help me out, as this is VERY unintuitive...

The fastest way to delete them was in the finder -
It’s also the utterly incorrect way, the wrong way, the way to corrupt your Library way, the way to cause “blank thumbnails“ way.
To remove pics from iPhoto put them in the iPhoto trash and empty it - iPhoto Menu -> Empty Trash.
How do i update the database to just show the photos and thumbs that are still there?
    You can’t.
I am trying to keep his original iphoto folder structure intact, so we can load it back on his machine when he gets a new one.
Too late, unless you’ve still got his original Library, it’s gone. You threw it away.
What exactly did you do? Import his Library to your own?
If you wanted to preserve his library all you had to do was copy the iPhoto Library Folder to your machine. That’s all. No importing involved.
Recovering the pics now really depends on what you threw away. There’s a good chance you’ve tossed the actual files and kept the thumbnails. Here’s hoping you didn’t.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • How do you permanently delete Photos from my iPhoto library?

When I delete a picture in iPhoto by hitting the "Delete" button on my keyboard, it vanishes from the Library but if I go into my hard-drive and look under my Photos folders, Ill find its still there. How do I delete it for good the first time?

Did you confirm that they were in the iPhoto trash bin before you emptied it via the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option? If you were in an album and hit the delete key you only removed the photo from that album. You have to be in an event for the Delete key to send the photo to the trash.
If done right the original image file, thumbnail and any modified versions will be completely deleted from the HD.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I permanently delete photos on my macbook 2009?

I moved then  to trash and then used "control, option, delete" but no matter how many times I do that they keep showing up again

You could see if the menu bar method of 'Secure Empty Trash' works.
A regular keyboard shortcut to simply 'empty trash' should not require
an Option key, and would work adequately.
There is no keyboard shortcut to Secure Empty Trash, however.
Once tagged as Trash, the system eventually overwrites that space on
the hard disk drive with other files. A Secure Empty Trash is slower in
that it does tend to scramble or mess up the files a bit.
If you use the secure trash method, do not put a pile in Trash and then
expect it to be quick; it won't be. Also if you generate a folder to trash
on the desktop, then put it into Trash, that may be very slow to digest.
{You may be able to change the default Trash to be Secure Trash in
    the system itself; then all trash would be slower as a result, too.}

how do I permanently delete a photo album?

    Hi xanadu711,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Was the photo album created on the iPhone or synced from iTunes?
If the album was synced using iTunes, follow these instructions to remove it:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236
To delete synced photos and videos from your device
In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
    Click Apply.
If the photo album was created on the iPhone, follow these instructions on page 73 of the iPhone User Guide to remove it:

  • How do I totally permanently DELETE photos from iPhoto?

How do I totally permanently DELETE photos from iPhoto?

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

I deleted some of songs by iPhone.but now it until shows all that songs.they seems partially visible not like other song totally black.actual songs are 701 shown in setting.in the music it shows 901. How can I permanently delete them???

I called Apple and spoke with a customer service representative regarding this issue. I was given the two things to try, and if they don't work, I was told I can call back in:
    1. Go to iCloud.com and look at the advanced options. Since Photos can be deleted here, the representative thought there may be an option to remove songs here as well.
    2. Go into the library that has the songs that were deleted and click Update iTunes match.
I tried #1--this didn't resolve the issue, as there is no option to remove songs this way. I can't try #2 right now since I'm at work, but if anybody else with this issue can try that step it can help us get the ball rolling on it. After I try that, I'll call Apple back to discuss this further.
