How do I permanently delete songs off my iPod?

the little iCloud symbol shows up, the slide to the left does not work. Neither does turning off show all in the settings or resetting my iPod. I really just want all my music gone and i'll start over. I have been at this for weeks. This music is suddenly showing up from my first iPod i purchased, and I no longer like this kind of music. I just want them to be gone. Going into iTunes does not work, the songs don't even show up there. I'm ready to cry, I just want help.

Verify the Show all is turned off in Settings>iTunes and App Store and and the Automatic Downloads are also off and then:
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Open Settings > iCloud > Delete account. If you don't want to delete your data, turn off each service individually before deleting the iCloud account

To delete songs from the iPod but keep them in iTunes you have to set your iPod to manual update. Your iPod will not sync with iTunes in this mode so it can have different content, you can get details here:

Once your iPod is in manual mode, you click on the chevron to the left of the iPod icon (the little black triangle) to display the icons for the iPod itself, Music, playlists etc. You click on the Music icon relating to the iPod and this bring up the songs that are on your iPod in the main pane to the left. In the main pane you find what you want to delete, highlight it and hit the delete key.
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

It's not yet "the end"...(as far as I know) When you delete songs in your Ipod, it's still "there"...something like "recycle bin"...you just can't "see them"...
I was able to used a program about 2 weeks ago that enables you to "actually" delete(shred) or recover songs in your ipod...But, I'm sorry, I forgot the name...

I have a second generation iPod Touch. It's an 8GB. I had basically filled it to capacity with music with a few apps and videos on there. Then, my computer crashed. So, after downloading the latest version of iTunes i tried to sync up my iPod and get the music back. Instead it asks me to "Erase & sync" or "Transfer purchases". My iTunes is fresh and has no music on it, so I am not going to erase and sync it. And most of my music was not purchased from the iTunes Store, so I am not going to transfer the purchases because it would have a fraction of my music on the iPod. i am trying to delete songs from my ipod 160 GB, and i do not have the ability to. I've tried delete key, right clicking, and edit. when i go to edit, delete option is there but grey'd out...please help i'd like to switch up my music. i also tried rebooting the computer, and also reinstalled itunes.

To delete a track from your phone (you are in the 'on my device' music section ?) then just select/highlight the track and press the delete button on your keyboard.

Managing app updates with more than one Apple ID is overly complicated as you need to sign in and out of each account in turn, so you may want to avoid creating more accounts it either has been used to purchase apps. For media it isn't quite so bad, but Apple devices are limited to holding protected content from up to five Apple IDs so again I would caution against creating new accounts unless you really have to. I doubt that is the solution in this case. As given, if you hide the purchases in question, sign out, then sign in again, they should no longer appear unless already downloaded to the device, in which case delete them from it directly. In extreme cases where the device "knows" it has some piece of content on it that it won't let you access or delete the resolution is to backup the device, restore as a new device, then restore the backup you made earlier.
See also Use Parental Controls in iTunes to set content restrictions and Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing. I don't use either of these features so I don't have any practical expereince over and above what is in those support documents but perhaps they will help.

On my iPod Touch, I have four duplicate songs that won't sync to my iTunes. That's fine, I don't want them to sync to my iTunes because they're already there. I do, however, want to delete them from my iPod. How can I do that?

There are a few ways to do this; here's my favorite.
Launch iTunes. Pull town the File menu, and select Duplicates. You'll see a list of the duplicate files on your drive. Now, highlight a file you want to delete, and press Delete. The system will ask you if you really want to delete the file; your answer is, Yes.
The desktop will still display the original file you wanted to keep. Of course, you probably won't want to delete that file.

Computer crashed - how do I get my songs off my ipod mini back onto mac?

hi there - I have an ipod mini linked to a powerbook g4. Recently I had to do a clean reinstall of the operating system. Now when I connect my ipod, i get an error message saying that this ipod isn't linked to this computer.
If i interpret the message correctly, changing the link will link them, but as I understand it, it will also wipe all the songs on the ipod as there are currently no songs on the computer. But if I choose the 'no' option I can't access any of the songs from the laptop as they are all greyed out or sync the songs back to the computer.

Can anyone help out. Short of digging out all the CDs and digitizing again, is there a way around this problem?

Yeah, syncing them will wipe the iPod. You need an iPod Manager (other than iTunes) that'll move songs from the iPod to the Mac (which iTunes is design not to do).

I used iPodRip. It took a little finaggling (sp?) so next time I'll try something else. You might want to look up some reviews of the others and see what'll work for you. Some save the play count history & playlist, others don't.
Anyway, it's doable.
