How do I permanently save edits I make in LR3?

I am new to this software. I have an existing collection of over 40,000 images. I am an amateur photographer making images for
my own amusement, and I also document objects that are brought to me for restoration. Both purposes are very important to me.
I have been using Picasa to manage my photos for several years. While it is limited, it is very elegant and easy to use. It also does not change the original file until a request is made for a permanent change, at which point a backup original is made. Once saved, the picasa edit can be viewed by any other viewer, software or browser I am aware of.
I am liking all the manipulations that are possible with LR3. I am concerned that there seems to be no way to save an edited file so that it can be viewed using other (non adobe) software. I want to be able to upload images to my website, and to be able to share with my customers, friends, family etc. I do not want to be locked in to Flickr . I am very concerned that I might spend huge amounts of time learning LR3 then even huger amounts of time editing my images with it, only to find at some point down the road that I will be locked in and unable to see my work using another software/viewer/browser. I.E. what if I were to convert to a Mac and decide to use Aperture 3 instead? What if somebody else comes up with software I prefer and wish to change? Am I always going to be bound up with LR to see my edited work? What if Adobe decides to no longer support LR3 and replaces it with a product that I find unacceptable, unaffordale or incomprehensible? (all three scenarios have happened to me in the past). Will I have to rework thousands of images years from now? I am very confused about this, and would much rather drop the software now before I get in too deep. I absolutely do not want to be commited to having to use anybody's software forever.
I see the line "Web Photo Gallery created by Adobe Lightroom." and it terrifies me. I may have used a Pentax camera, and Adobe software, but the images were created by me, and I wish to retain total control over my work.

I quite understand and greatly value the non invasive features that preserve the original data.
I also appreciate basics, from which I can learn and extrapolate.
I edited and exported a dng file, to a jpeg format, it went from 9mb to 865kb
I edited and exported a 9.6mb jpg which became a 1.5 mg jpg.
I did a separate edit (major crop) and small adjustements using Picasa, and saved a copy. Both jpg.
The original was 11.4 mb, and the copy 5.2 mb.Used the same file to do an edit using the camera mfg
software, and the file went from 11.4 to 983kb
I may be missing something very obvious or I may be overly paranoid.
Most of the time, once I am done with an edit, I do not wish to revisit.
I am concerned about what happens to 90% or so of the data. I remain
unclear about the integrity of the "exported"/ "saved" edit in the event that original file/data is lost, or separated from
the LR coding instructions,
or if LR becomes unsupported or abandoned.
Being able to reference conservation treatment data 10 or 15 years down the road can be critical.
Memory is cheap. If the answer is multiple back ups for original data, metadata, and pertinent software, then
that is an answer. If it means the editied image is forever and permanently linked to LR, and without LR,
the original file must be re-edited to similar result, that is also an answer. If the loss of information results in image degradation
analagous to photographing a magazine print of an original transparency, or trying to work with data from a thumbnail image,
that is also an answer. Whichever if any is the most accurate, defines my approach to how I might use this software. A little like archival quality printing versus drug store snapshot prints. Time spent editing is orders of magnitude greater that time spent capturing the image. Protecting that investment of time is what I am ultimately interested in.

• How can I permanently save my Illustrator CS6 preferences?

Each time I open Illustrator, I have to open preferences and go through changing everything back to the way I like it and it's getting really old. How can I permanently save these settings? I've read this article: (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-630ca .html) but I think it's for older versions because I couldn't find the Adobe Illustrator Preferences file, and even if I did I wouldn't know what to do with it. I'm on Mac OSX.7. I previously used CS4 and it saved my preferences the first time permanently. Help!

Can you check the permission on the following folder :-
<startup drive>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings/
Make sure you have the read and write permission on the "Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings" folder with all the enclosed items.

How can I permanently save voice mails?

It helps a lot to know what type of computer you are using.
I use TouchCopy on Windows machines (they also have a Mac version but I have not used it).
I use Phoneview on Macs.
I would highly recommend either of them.

You can transfer them to a computer as described in iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Another option is a 3rd party service such as Flickr

• How can I permanently save received "sendpix" pictures?

When I receive photos via sendpix I view them on Safari and have tried saving them to a Webarchive. However, after 30 days they expire and I'm losing the pictures! Is there any way I would be able to permanently save sendpix received pictures? As can be seen from my alias I am of an age that tends to be a bit technically challenged, so advice in layman's terms would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Click and hold on them in Safari and drag them to the desktop, or press the Shift, Command, and 4 keys followed by dragging to enclose them, or print the page, click on PDF in the resulting dialog box, and create a PDF of it.

• How do I permanently save changes to photos?

The IOS 7 photo edit allows me to revert to the original photos after edits, which would be ok, if it didn't use the original when interfacing with other apps or when sending. For example, I cropped a lot of photos and then accessed the photos with my contacts app. The original unedited or uncropped photo showsl, not the edited or cropped photo. I searched for hours trying to find any comments on this topic. Nothing! Maybe everyone is excited about the new photo organization and forgot the basics. What good are editing features if the changes are not saved or accessible to other apps or when trying to send out the edited version?
I could find any way on Apple site or any on Google that tells me how to disable this feature or how to make changes to my photos permanent. Basically, what this means to me is the editing features are only useful if viewing from the photo app and not any other app or when trying to use the edited version.

The interface to share photos between your apps is the camera Roll. So to make your iPhoto edits visible to other apps on your iPad, share your edited version to the Camera Roll, when you are done with editing. If you have iPhoto on your iPad, you can save to the Camera Roll like this:
From: http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/1.1/#blnkee26bc1f
Save photos to the Camera Roll on your device
Tap one or more photos and tap
Tap Camera Roll.
Confirm or change the photos you want to share:
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Tap Camera Roll.
To use your photo in another app, open the app and select the Camera Roll album.

• Please Help!!! - How do I Permanently Save iPhone Messages to a Mac?

Hello,
I currently have an iPhone 4s 16 GB and am quickly running out of storage space. I only have about 700 MB of space remaining and my "Other" category is taking up 6.27 GB of space! I believe that most of this is because of my text messages; I have never deleted any of them and I'm in a group message that easily accumulates over 150 texts per day, so I need space, and fast!!! I have read about several programs and am definitely willing to buy one, but I would like first-hand information about these programs. I'm looking for a program that will save my SMS, MMS, and iMessage text messages to my MackBook so that I can delete them from my iPhone. I would need a program that will save the messages permanently. I want to be able to save the messages to the program, delete them from my phone, connect my phone to the program at later dates and save additional messages, and not lose any messages at all. I don't want an app that I can only save messages to once because if I try to save more, it gets rid of the old ones and only saves the new ones. I'm not sure how any of the programs work as far as that goes, so if anyone could reccommend a program to me that would do what I'm looking for, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!!!
Thank you in advance for the help!!!

There are a number of OS X apps, many free, that will save your messages, allowing to view and print them.

Google, for other options
Your "other" of 6 GB may include corrupted data or file sytem errors. If after removing the messages there is still >2GB, you will need to restore the phone in iTunes, first using a backup (made after deleting the messages) and if needed as a new iPhone.

I don't understand how elements organizer and adobe photoshop elements relate - how/where do I save edited photos? I tried to save them on my hard drive and the result was a 65 MB file!!! Not sure what I'm doing wrong :/ - maybe I'm saving the entire folder every time instead of just an individual photo?

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

• How can I apply an edit on a corner of a shape to all the corners so it would be symmetrical?

I made this specific shape in Illustrator CC but I need all the corners and sides to be symmetrical, how can apply the same edit I make for one corner or side to all the corners of the rectangle? or is there any way to make them symmetrical? and is there an info bar which tells you x and y coordinates like in after effects?

3b,
is there any way to make them symmetrical?
How would I mirror one half without any external plugins?
It is quite possible to create a symmetrical drawing live with the help of Illy, with her inbuilt tools, without any external plugins, if you just start in the right way. Obviously, it is much better to see the whole appearance while you create it.
You may see the reflection live after each Anchor Point if you start out as follows (for Pen Tool with vertical reflection to the right, similar for other directions):
1) Create the first two Anchor Points of your basic path;
2) Effect>Distort&Transform>Transform>ReflectX with 1 copy and the middle right side Reference Point chosen;
3) With the Pen Tool ClickDrag (or Click) anew from the second Anchor Point and go on;
If you wish, you may:
4) Object>Expand Appearance and Ctrl/Cmd+J to join the half paths.
Ctrl/Cmd+Z Undo is your friend: you can just go back and redo while drawing the basic path.

• How can I avoid having to save edited photos to desktop?

I use iPhoto '09 for organizing my photos and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac for editing my photos, most of which are JPEGs. My procedure is to make a duplicate of the photo I wish to edit and then hand it off to PSE 6 for editing via the Edit in External Editor option.
I notice a strange phenomenon when saving my photos after editing them. Sometimes the photos can be saved directly to the same folder in which the unedited duplicate version resides (my preference), but more often I have to save the edited version to my desktop and then import it into my iPhoto program. I have not been able to discern a reason why I need to save the edited images to my desktop. The system seems arbitrary in this regard. I don't recall having this issue to deal with when I used iPhoto '06 and PSE 4 for Mac. I would appreciate somebody explaining this phenomenon and indicate how I can consistently save an edited photo directly to the folder in which the unedited version resides instead of having to save it to my desktop and then import it into iPhoto.
For your information I use iPhoto Library Manager.
Bob

A simple rule of thumb is: if the file format of the edited photo does not change due to the editing the file is saved to the Modified folder and viewed by iPhoto as if iPhoto did the editing. If the editing requires a format change, i.e. from jpg to psd then the new file must be saved to the desktop and imported as a new photo. The following expands on that:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

• How do I permanently STOP the Bing Suggested Sites icon from being in the IE 9 toolbar for everyone and make it the default for all new users

Non of the other post on this subject were correctly answered and they are now old so here is a new thread for a question that a Microsoft Engineer should have answered a long time ago in one of the other threads.
I have IE 9 installed.
I am setting up my default profile which will be used for ALL users to configure their profile when they log on. All profiles are destroyed on system reboot. All PCs are frozen.
Every time I log in as a new user and open IE 9, the favorites bar shows up as I want it with NO BING Suggested Site crapware in site. Then about .5 secs after IE starts and the Favorites bar is shown, the EVIL "Bing Suggested Sites" button appears.
I can delete it and it seems to stay away until I delete the users profile folder etc and have them log in again. When the profile is recreated the Favorites folder does not have a "Suggested Sites" option in the c:\users\username\favorites\links"
folder. (I have deleted the hidden .ini files in the default folder) Nor does one exist in the "c:\users\default\favorites\links" folder from which the newly created user profile folder comes. But as soon as I start IE 9, one is created and placed
in the users favorites links folder. This MUST STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE. AND IT MUST BE STOPPED!!!!! Where in the Windows 7 x64 Enterprise OS is the location of this evil action and how do I PERMANENTLY delete it.
I don't EVER want to see the EVIL BING Suggested Sites button anywhere on the PC especially in the Favorites Tool bar on IE 9. An I expect/demand that Microsoft tell us how to 100% cannot fail get rid of it for ALL USERS FOREVER NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I
have spent a lot of time perfecting my default profile making sur that ALL options are decide by me NOT MICROSOFT. I NEVER USE SYSPREP as that will destroy ALL custom defaults every time.
When a user logs in in to one of my PCs and they start IE 9 they get REAL Google for the default search engine, not the version Microsoft will give you which first sends all search requests to Microsoft so they can spy on what you searched in Google for etc.,
but real Google, not sent to Microsoft 1st. (I'll bet more than 90% of the readers of this site did not notice how if you let Microsoft set your default search provider to Google, they fix it so that all search requests go to Microsoft 1st, before it gets
sent to Google. Look at the search string under manage your search providers, in IE 7 & 8. In IE 9 it is hidden, but still there. HOW EVIL OF MICROSOFT)
With my default profile IE does not ask how you want to set it up, I have already made those decisions. I have made all those decisions for my users. But as of recently I have started installing IE 9 and now this unacceptable BING Suggested Sites junk ware
keeps showing up. HOW DO I STOP IT. Do I have to put a line in my HOSTS file to send all request for Bing.com to 127.0.0.1 just to make sure that it can't be used. There by removing all possibility of my users ever being able to use Bing FOREVER.
I would rather not do that but unless a Microsoft representative will tell me how to keep that useless Bing Suggested Sites button from appearing on the Favorites tool bar I will have to. I would love to let my user decide if they want to use Bing and waist
their time trying to find good search results, but I will not have it forced on them and I will not allow it to be on the Favorites tool Bar ever. So will a Microsoft Engineer please tell us how to put a permanent end to the "Bing Suggested Sites"
button for ALL users ALWAYS FOREVER.
Thanks,
Ralph

How to edit and make a high quality swf a low quality one. how do you do this in adobe flash cs5? The file i edited is entirely too large

click file/publish settings/html and use the quality settings dropdown.
if that doesn't lead to satisfactory file size, you may need to check the properties of each bitmap in the library to see if it's set to over-ride the global settings.
