How do I pixelate a photo in aperture?

How do I pixelate a photo in aperture?

It really depends very much on what you want to be able to do, and how much you are willing to spend.  Your decision got complicated by Adobe's just announced change in how it is selling and pricing its products.
There are three excellent external editors that are regularly recommended by Aperture users here:
- GIMP.  Free.
- Pixelmator.  $30 via the App Store.
- Photoshop, either Elements or the whole sh-bang.
Pixelmator has a free trial -- see if you like it.  GIMP is free -- see if you like it.
Any of these can be set-up as an external editor for Aperture ("Aperture➞Preferences➞Export➞External Photo Editor").
If you specify more of what you want to do, both with Aperture and with your digital photo files, others may jump in with more refined suggestions.

  • How does Apple TV sort photos from Aperture?

I have arranged a set of photos in Aperture in a Project.
When I go to show these on the Apple TV, they appear randomly and not in the order that I have them in the Aperture Project.
How does Apple TV sort the photos that it reads from my Aperture project?
If I understand how it handles this, I can adjust the metadata to insure it shows as I want.
I look forward to hearing back from folks about how this works.
    Thanks.

I figured it out.  It is by the date and time code on the picture.

  • How do I remove duplicate photos in Aperture?

Is it possible to eliminate dupes at one time as in "keep on copy trash the rest" without going through thousands of photos one at a time?

I'm sorry to report that the operation is much more complex than one might expect or desire.
It's important to understand that in Aperture, "Photo" has no specific meaning.  You import image-format files.  On import, Aperture refers to these as Masters and shows you an Image.  Aperture features a non-destructive workflow: your Masters are never altered.  When you make adjustments or add metadata to an Image, a Version is created.  The Version is, literally, just a text file of instructions that tells Aperture what adjustments to make to the Masters to produce the Image.  It is only when you export an Image that another image-format file is created (to your specifications).
So your question is better phrased as:  how can I identify duplicate Masters of the Images in my Library?
Aperture provides no tools to do this.  Duplicate Annihilator - Aperture Edition has been used by some regulars here and is likely to help you identify duplicates.

  • How can I delete a photo from aperture but keep it on my computer

I recently purchased A3 from the App Store and have begun migrating photos to its program.
It's also given me a chance to go through and see which photos I would rather not have in A3 but I don't want to delete totally. So here's my question:
When I delete a photo from A3 is there a way to keep the original in it's location but just not pulled into A3's database? I tend to keep files where they are and even though I don't want it in A3, I still want to keep the photo on my external database. Yes, I could just select one photo at a time to incorperate but I just wanted to do a select all and then hand filter out in post.
Thanks and hope this made sense.

When the Master of an Image in your Aperture Library is located anywhere outside of that Library, it is called a "Referenced Master".  Aperture gives you complete control of your Images' Masters -- you can relocate them, consolidate them, reconnect them, etc.
Every Image has a Master.  The Master is a file on a drive.  When you delete the last Image in a Library that uses a Master, Aperture will ask you if you want to delete the Master file as well.  For your purposes, say "No".
You should probably experiment with a practice Library and make sure you end up with a workflow that meets your needs.  One thing Aperture can't do is mark which files in Finder are Masters.  To group your files by "Master/not-Master" in Finder, you will have to go into Aperture and move all of the Masters to another location.  The files left are not Masters.
Note that Aperture puts deleted Masters in the System trash.  They are put in a folder named after your Library -- I think -- in any case they are easy to identify.  Until you empty the system trash, they are available from there.
All of which begs the question:  why keep the Master but remove it from your Library?  You could simply create an Album (or a Project, depending on your use of Projects) called "Archive", and put all of those Images there.

  • How to import high rez photos from Aperture to inDesign

I have done a fair bit of research on this but it seems no one has found a good way to do this.  It seems simple enough though...
    - My photos are in Aperture 3.x.
    - I just got inDesign CS6 in order to create a book.
    - I can click and drag images from Aperture to inDesign without a problem, except...  that it only brings in the preview.  Not the full rez file.  I don't mind working with the low rez preview of course... as long as it then brings in the full size one at export time.  But that does not seem to happen.
System:  iMac 24", Mac OS 10.8, all the latest version of the various softwares.
I suppose I could first export all of the photos to the desktop but that would represent a time consuming extra step.  There has got to be a better way.  Uhhhh... right???
    Thanks for any help.

You mean like selecting "Icon view" from the 4 different view modes at the top of Finder windows?
You can also adjust the size of the previews with the slider at the bottom right of the window in icon view.
Click the below images in the forum to see an enlarged view.
Or like "Coverflow view" one of the other views. You can cycle through the photos using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Or by clicking the icon of one of your photos, press the Space bar on the keyboard.
You can then use your right and left arrow keys to cycle through your photos. The subsequent photos will replace the current photo on screen.
Or if you have Creative Suite you can use Bridge to view your photos all at the same time. There are also other features in Bridge. You can even drag photos directly from Bridge to InDesign and it will automatically create the links.
In newer versions of MacOSX and InDesign you can even drag photos directly from the Finder into InDesign and it will again automatically create the links.

  • How does one resize a photo to the dimensions required by a contest?

How does one resize a photo in aperture to the dimensions required by contest?

Are you submitting a print or a file?
You set the size of your print in the print dialog.
You set the number of pixels (the unit of linear measurement of digital images is the pixel) for a file when you create that file by exporting an Image from your Library. You can specify a recommended number of Pixels per Inch by using the (mis-named) DPI field in the Image Export Preset you use when you export.
The files you import have a height and width in pixels.  Height/width = the Aspect Ratio.  You can crop to any aspect ratio using Aperture's Crop tool.
What are the specs required by the contest's sponsors?
Message was edited by: Kirby Krieger -- added aspect ratio and cropping.

i was editing vacation photos in aperture 3 all of a sudden the thumbnail disappeared and now all i have is a vertical white line and an orange flag... how do i get my photo back?  thanks

         Hi Frank.
I have just had jb Atlanta's problem while adjusting the contrast on a photo. I was creating a slideshow at the time. After a lot of reading up I was about to give up when I tried restoring the file to its original settings as you suggested. Bingo!
However, that would only work for me, if I restored the settings while in the slideshow. All data had 'disappeared' when I attempted to open the photo in its original project folder.
Hope this is of help. Many thanks.

  • How to restore a single Photo with time machine in Aperture 3 / iphoto?

How to restore a single Photo with time machine in Aperture 3 / iphoto?

Its been awhile since I used iPhoto, but I have done it.
If I recall correctly this is how.
In iPhoto open event that you need to restore the photo to ( the event that originally contained it )
Then open TM it should show that same event and then go back in time until you find the missing shot
Highlight the one you need to restore and tell TM to restore it.
    Good luck

  • How do I transfer photos from aperture and iPhoto to bridge?

How do I transfer photos from Aperture and iPhoto to Adobe Bridge.  I am using Photoshop CS6.  Many of my original photos were stored as raw files.

Here's how to access Mac iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
and so that they may be viewed by choosing that folder in Bridge..
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click (Right-click) the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click (Right-click) the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop or view them in Bridge.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.
And here is a Forum thread related to Aperture-to-Bridge

  • Want to order a card with a photo on Aperture -- how to move card over

    Hi all,
I'm trying to make a Holiday card, but the photo is in Aperture. How do I move the photo to iPhoto so I can make my card?
    Thanks,
    Boris

Option 1: In iPhoto - File -> Show Aperture Library and drag the pic from the Media Browser to the iPhoto Window. This will gve you your preview from Aperture.
Option 2: Export from Aperture and import to iPhoto.

  • How do I open a photo in CS3 as a RAW file from Aperture

How do I open a photo from the Aperture library in Photoshop CS3 so it opens in the RAW converter first, as it would if I opened it from bridge? I can only see options for TIFF and PSD.
    Thanks and regards,
    Craig

You could import your RAW-files as referenced images into aperture. This way your Raw-files would live in a folder structure on one or more harddrives. Third party applications like Photoshop would have access to your files too. You could implement a DAM strategy like Peter Krogh´s (http://www.peterkrogh.com/).
Disadvantage: you would be responsible for a thorough organisation of your files (raws and derivatives).

  • HT5043 How do I access the photos in the Aperture 3.4 library with adobe lightroom 4

how do I access photos in Aperture with adobe 4.  Aperture now has a shared library with iphoto

You don't, in a word. Lighroom understands neither the iPhoto nor the Aperture Library. Export the files from iPhoto / Aperture to the Finder and take it from there.
