How do I place translucent text over an image in InDesign?

I have placed text on top of an image and am trying to make it look translucent. However, when I select the text box, go to Object > Effects > Transparency, select Text and reduce opacity to 70% and hit OK, it does reduce the transparency of the text but also appears to raise the brightness of the image underneath. I've also tried putting the text in a separate layer from the image but it still happens. How can I make it so that just the text changes? Thanks in advance.

Which version of InDesign are you seeing this issue in danni95?
I can't replicate the issue in InDesign CC (2014.1 Release).
However, am thinking what you are seeing is related to the display of transparency. If the InDesign document were to be converted to PDF v1.3 (Acrobat 4 compatibility) or EPS, the text will be outlined, and the text frame area will become a rasterized region.
There's a couple of things you could do to check all is OK, and things are merely a display issue.
Open up the Effects panel (Window > Effects) and ensure that the 70% opacity on Text is the only setting applied. No other Effects, Blending Modes or Opacity settings applied elsewhere?
View the document with Overprint Preview enabled (View > Overprint Preview). Do you still see the issue? If it disappears, I'd not be too concerned with the issue, as in final output things will be OK.
Thirdly you can try using the Flattener Preview panel (Window > Output > Flattener Preview), to further isolate the issue.

Cari

  • How do I place a watermark "behind" an image?

How do I place a watermark "behind" an image?

    Hi there,
By behind I assume you mean over top an image.
There are different ways, the easiest way is mentioned above.
Following the same principle you can create a new file with a transparent background. Design your watermark etc and save the file as a .jpg or tiff.
While your watermark is still open in Photoshop open the image you want to apply the watermark on.
    1) Go back to your watermark image and 'select all' or simply Ctrl + A.
    2) Then press Ctrl + C
    3) Go to your image file now and paste the watermark on top of the image by pressing Ctrl + V.
A new layer is then created and you can change the opacity to whatever you like to adjust the visibility of the watermark.
    4) Save the file as a psd and keep this file for later use.
    5) If you want a web friendly jpg then open the psd and save a jpg version.
    Hope that helps!

  • Inserting text over an image in dreamweaver cc

I am trying to insert text over an image in fluid grid layout but all i can see is the text.  I have seen the previous query relating to this but it does not help.  Help on this would be great.

Layers or APDivs won't work in FluidGrid Layouts.  You'll need to drop the image into your container's background with CSS.   Or use Photoshop to apply text directly to your graphic.

  • How to create-Form text field to simultaneously preview the text over an image

I am trying to make a web page similar to the link below…where when a customer types in the form text field, and simultaneously, the text will preview in another area of the webpage over and image. See example when you create a label @ www.customwinesource.com custom labels…http://www.customwinesource.com/index.cfm?method=storepairing.listPairing&wineryid=auto
Any help would be much appreciated

I wasn't able to (easily) find anything in the way of a textfield to type something into that you describe, but you can assign code for input textfields to detect when something changes in them and take action from that event.  How you do it depends on which version of actionscript you are using.

  • Question about layering text over an image

Hi -- I am trying to place a layer of text over a ghosted image that I've imported into ID from Photoshop.  By "ghosted" I mean that the image has a layer of white fill over it that has been set at 50% opacity.  ID won't let text be layered on top of the imported image, no matter how many different ways I've tried to accomplish this.  It will allow another image to be layered on top, but not text.  If I place a text frame over the ghosted image and type even one letter, the red text overset warning icon appears.
I tried applying the text in Photoshop and that works just fine until the file gets imported into ID, at which point the text looks terrible, having become somehow degraded in transit.  I am fairly new to ID and PS, and would appreciate any helpful input.
    Thanks!
    ~Artemis

Sounds like text wrap is applied to either the image or the frame above it, or both. Eihter turn it off if you don't need it for other reasons, or for the frame you want to use on top of it open the Text Frame Options and check the Ignore Text Wrap box in the lower left corner.

  • How do I place a text frame/ botton over Edge Animation in DPS

As I said in the title, how do I do that?
    Thank you!

You can make MSO from your text (same for button).
Select text frame and create MSO. You will get MSO with 2 states, each state contains the thext frame. Select this MSO and set AUTO PLAY in Overlay Creator/Slideshow window. Then arrange the MSO on top of Edge animation.
Please let know if it works.

  • How can I place Tagged Text in InDesign

I use tagged text in the files I place
    in InDesign. For example,
    <cn>This is the chapter number
    <ct>This is the chapter title
    <cst>This is the chapter subtitle
<bt>This is the beginning of the body text
    <ah>This is an A-level head
and so on. In PageMaker, there was a checkbox in the "place"
dialogue box named "Read tags." I checked that, and when I placed the file in the template (in which I had the styles defined), the whole chapter appeared with the formatting I wanted for each style.
I can't find the equivalent checkbox in InDesign. I can't believe it is no longer there, but search as I do, I can't find it. There is a lot online about exporting tagged text, but where, oh where, is my checkbox for placing tagged text? If someone knows where it is, I'd be very grateful.

  • How can I place a text field not directly on the left of the page but with an indent to the right?

    Hi everybody,
I try to create a form in which I want to enter several item under each other
general info        Item 1               Item 2
                             Name 1            Name 2
                            Item 3               Item 4
    and so on.
Since it is not possible to insert a table for something like that I would like to enter seperate text fields one underneath the other.
But every new line starts on the left side and I do not see any way to move a text field to the right with an indent so that "item 1", "Name 1" and "item 3" are aligned the same.
Can anybody give me a hint?
Thanks a lot and have a good 2015!
    Oliver

    Hi,
Insert a blank "Formatted Text" field on the far left, and shrink it down as much as you wish. Then insert your normal text field to the right of that.
    I hope that helps,

  • How to add watermark text over an image

I add a watermark text in the corner of all my images in photoshop before putting them on the web. I use a text layer, emboss it, blur it, choose hard light and position it.
I am new to Lightroom. I am using an Intel iMac with up to date lightroom. Is there any way I can have some sort of preset in lightroom which will add this watermark to images in lightroom? I have the image saved as a separate document so technically all I would need to do is tell lightroom to apply this image to the selected photos.
    Is this possible?
    Regards

Alex, I do something similar to what you want to do, we use the Web module to create a flash slide show for proofs on a CD. Export all the images, sized for web use to a folder. Do a Photoshop action that adds your watermark. Re-import the finished files, go to Web module & upload. You should look into Mogrify, as it will add whatever watermark image, or text you want to, and has an "upload to an FTP server after export" function. I have not used this, as we don't upload to a studio website.

  • How do I add circular text to an image?

I have successfully cropped/masked a circular image, and now need to add circular text around it. How do I accomplish that?

    Christine,
Basically, you create a circle, then use the Path Type Tool (ClickHold the Type Tool to get to it) and click with it on the circle where you want the typing to start, then start typing.
You may create the circle independently and place it, or you may open the Group in the Layers palette, then click the Clipping Mask, then Object>Path>Offset Path by the distance you want between the mask and the circle, then drag the new circle up so it gets out of the group.
You may wish to use the Paragraph palette (which is with the Character palette) to select Align Center and to click the topmost Anchor Point of the circle to have the type symmetrical from the top.
You may adjust the Type relative to its circle, and thereby its distance from the mask by changing the Baseline Shift (down is negative); it is in the Character Options. You may need to tick Show Options in the flyout.
Terms are shown when you hover.

  • How to import yellowed market text passages from word to indesign????

    Dear friends,
in my word - very long draft for a PhD-Dissertation, I have marked everything yellow that is not finished yet. Now I changed from word 2007 to indesign (CS 5  - mac) as I had some problems with word. My question is how I can import my  yellow marked passages into indesign. The Importation of documents is not a problem,my only problem is, that the color is gone then. It would be a huge work to color the passages again individually,. THANK YOU for your  help.
    Best Jörg

Those colored backgrounds don't translate into anything in InDesign -- the function simply does not exist.
Use Find & Replace to replace it with something else in Word that *does* import (colored text or something), then change it again in InDesign to a custom underline.

  • How do I place on ID a halftone image made in PS and keep the halftone?

I'm really not finding anything about this, so i'm starting to think I can't do it. I'm using CS5. Here it goes:
I'm making a magazine layout as a college excercise. I want to use halftone images in one or two ink (some only black, others only cyan, or magenta, or both, etc) for this and I want the halftone to be noticeable but not so big that it turns my photo into an abtract image or a weird Lichtenstein. To try it, I grabbed one of the images in PS, separated the channels in different layers, used the halftone effect and got exactly what I wanted.
The thing is, when I place it on ID, it looks like... well, really bad. I already tried with High quality display.
    Other things I tried:
Placing the image as both JPG and PSD. (No difference)
Exporting (printing) to PDF and looking at the result (really bad).
I haven't tried printing it on paper yet, but I assume it shouldn't change much, right? And i haven't tried with different dot sizes either, I'm going for that now.
FYI, this is for single digital printing, and not offset, it won't be sent to a printer.
Any help, advices or comments will be much appreciated. Any grammar correctiosn will be appreciated to, as english is secon language to me.
This is the PS image (Screen print kills it a bit)
And this is the PDF output.

In addition to Peter's suggestion, the halftoned bitmap is line art so it needs more resolution to accurately draw the dots. So:
If you add color ideally it should be 100% value combinations so you don't have a printer screen interfering. Above is 100% magenta back with 100%cyan+100%magenta for the halftone line art

  • Is it possible to include text over an image from i-photo?

I wish to overlay one of my images with a caption but have no idea of what I would initially have to do with the original image to get to the stage of including text/wordart etc. Can anyone help?

You'll need an external editor for work like that.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
