How do I play just 1 song on the iPhone / Making Playlists on iPhone?

Is it possible to just pick 1 song and play that and nothing after it? It always wants to play another song after the one I choose.
Also - What is the 'On the go' playlist for and does it sync to iTunes?
Lastly - Is it possible to make playlists on the iPhone or do these need to be made in iTunes and then synced?
-Frankie

Like Glor says is how to set it to play one song and then end playback. Add that one song to the on the go playlist, and then play the playlist.
This is because it appears that the phone refers to each song as part of a larger group. It's not <songname>, it is <playlist>-<songname>. Even the master list groups songs under a group heading, kind of like a First Name Last Name setup. I figure it's to keep a song named Blue easily separate from a phone contact named Blue, and both of those separate from an application also named Blue. They would be called App Blue, Song Blue and Contact Blue. Just my offhand supposition.
As for making playlists on the phone... You can only add songs to the On The Go list, all of the others are unable to be edited. However, if you add songs to On The Go, the next time you sync that playlist is copied to iTunes and renamed "On The Go 1". And then the original On The Go is reset to empty - ready for you to monkey around with it at will.
So, I add "Blue" to On The Go on the phone.
Then I sync.
"On The Go 1" appears in iTunes and on the phone. It only contains the song "Blue"
The phone's On The Go is reset to empty.
So now I have a playlist "On The Go" that I can add songs to with the phone, and another playlist called "On The Go 1" that I can only edit on iTunes.

  • How do I delete just songs from the iPad?

In an attempt to move my iTunes library, I have now gotten way out of whack with my music.  I deleted all songs from iTunes and re-imported (sacrificing my play counts, etc., but I didn't know what else to do), and that works, but it leaves my iPad in a state of confusion.  So I would like to remove all music from the iPad and just start over and re-sync, but I am having no luck with that.
    Here are things I've tried:
Re-syncing after re-importing the library to iTunes.  After that, I can see a full list of songs on the iPad, but 80% of them are grayed out and not playable.
Deleted all the iTunes library files (the itdb's, the itl's and the xml) so that when iTunes opened, it would give me the fresh screen and show no music.  Then I synced the iPad--it told me it was going to erase everything on the iPad b/c it was synced to a different library (presumably my old library), and I said okay, and it synced, and somehow there are still about 200 songs on there.  No idea how those songs "survived," but they did.
I tried going to Settings -> General, and I see an option for "Reset All Settings", and right under it "Erase All Content and Settings," but inexplicably, there is no option for "Erase All Content and Leave the Settings Alone!"  I'm not sure why of those three things, they think the first two are important to users, and the last one isn't.
Ideally I would not like to reset my iPad, as I don't want to lose all my app data and that kind of thing--anybody know an easy way just to wipe all song media from the iPad?  Thanks!

  • TS1424 When I click to play my songs in the library they will not play and show a circle with an exclamation point in the middle of it, what does that mean and how can I get them to play?

When I click to pay my songs in the library they will not play and it shows a circle with an exclamation point within it. What does that mean, how do I fix it, and how will it play my songs again? They used to play before on my Iphone4 with no problem, but since I upgraded to the Iphone4s there is an issue.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • When I play a song from the cloud on my iPad, is the song actually saved to the device or is it streaming it from the cloud?  If saved, how do I clear the songs to not exceed the storage on my iPad since the iTunes library is way bigger?

When I play a song from the cloud in iTunes Match on my iPad, iis the track actually downloaded to the iPad, or is it streaming?  If downloading, wouldn't the tracks eventually exceed my storage capacity on the iPad since my iTunes library is way bigger?  Do i need to delets songs off the iPad eventually?

It is downloaded, and yes it takes up space and can eventually fill up your iPad.  It's supposed to delete older tracks as the music app plays new ones and space gets low, but other apps won't delete songs and free up the space. So if you were going to say use the camera app and it was full of music you would have to delete songs manually.

  • How can I play album songs in correct sequence?

How can I play album songs in their correct sequence -- without having to create a playlist for each album? I like to play songs from my primary "Music" Library, sorting to albums or songs via it.
I've imported songs from albums that for some reason do not play in proper sequence: I'll sort the Library by "Album" but, even though the tracks are correctly sequenced in the "Get Info" box (Track Number "x" of "x"), they always play in some other order.
I have tried all the sorting choices under "Album" but to no avail. Any ideas?
I know I can rearrange the songs by click-and-drag -- IF I create a playlist and then re-order them. Really??
I hate to say it (as a decades-long Mac addict) but iTunes is becoming less and less a worthy organizing tool/database and more and more just a sales tool/gimmick.

My problem might be solved. For anyone similarly troubled, I found this in the iTunes Windows forum from a member named Turingtest2:
See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Tracks out of sequence.

  • Since downloading 11.0.1 (12), Itunes can't locate or play many songs but the same songs still play on my synched iPod.

Since downloading Itunes 11.0.1 (12), Itunes can't locate or play many songs but the same songs still play on my synched iPod. I have a MacBook Air, Lion OS, Itunes version 11.0.1 (12).  I didn't see this problem with older versions of Itunes.  I do not manually change the organization of the Itunes library.  I use the Itunes "add to library" feature or Amazon's MP3 downloader.  Sometimes, however, I have changed song information in the "info" window.  Such as unchecking the "compilation" button and sorting by artist (for that song), so that I can search by artist in the top pane of Itunes (otherwise the song is sorted in an album that is a "compilation," but not under the name of the artist who sang a particular song.  I've done this without problem in the past, but perhaps the newer version of Itunes can't handle the changes I made and has lost track of where the older version of Itunes stored such songs?    How do I fix all these older previously ok changes if that's the case...  If I could just find where they are stored in Itunes it would be easier perhaps.  I've looked in compilations, unknown artist, and so forth to no avail.  And Finder search can't find them.
Details: suddenly, many songs are marked with "!," denoting that Itunes cannot find the songs in the library and cannot play them. Oddly, my iPod CAN play the "unlocatable" songs with no problem (it has been synched "post problem").  So the songs are still there somewhere in the Itunes library.  This problem occurs by album, that is, all songs from the same album become unlocatable, although different albums by the same artist may still be found and played.
Exploring the Itunes library to try to locate the missing albums/songs, I discovered that generally there is no longer any folder specified for any artist associated with a missing album [artist is the top level of organization and album is the second; compilations are in the same folder]. This is true even if I have other albums from the same artist which Itunes IS able to locate.  I cannot find a single song/album by such artists anywhere in the Itunes file system, even the ones that Itunes can still play.  If I right click and "get info" for an unlocatable song, I get a notification box that asks if I want to locate the file.  If I click "no," next thing-- the info window for the song pops up, with all the correct info (including sort info, which I double check)!  Why is Itunes able to locate all the info on the song, but is not able to play the MP3 file?
Using Finder I cannot locate the songs that are unlocatable by Itunes (except the original download files in the Amazon MP3 folder).  Finder is, of course, able to find Itunes songs that Itunes has no trouble locating.  What's up?!  My iPod can find them just fine.  I just synched my iPod again and am playing the "unlocatable" songs right now.
I can "fix" most of these files by downloading files one by one into Itunes from my Amazon download folder or from my CDs using the "add to library" feature. In fact, it is strange.  But this will take a very long time!  And what if this problem continues recurring?   But something strange happens when I implement this fix.  I added one song to Itunes (from the Amazon MP3 folder, using "add to library") for one "unlocatable" album of Pete Seegers. After adding that one song, I looked at the Itunes music library and discovered that a folder for Pete Seeger (which was not there before I added the song) had been newly created, or restored.  In this folder was the one song I had just added, but ALSO all my other Seeger albums that had previously remained "locatable" by Itunes.  But the other "unlocatable" songs were not restored, unfortunately.

I have found a workaround. When I create a new playlist, iTunes allows me to add or remove songs from existing playlists for a short while. Then, for some reason it prevents me from adding and deleting songs again. Not sure why. Go figure.

  • How do I play my songs in order on itunes?

I want to be able to play my songs on itunes in order.  It keeps randomy skipping around on me.  How do I just make it go in order? Thanks!

When playing a song, tap the album cover area to bring up the scrubber bar. The Shuffle icon is located to the right of the scrubber. When shuffle is enabled, the color of the icon is blue and when off the color is white.
Also make sure shake to shuffe is off in settings: Settings>iPod>Shake to Shuffle>Off.

  • How do i play my songs on my computer?

how do i play my songs on my computer?

    Find a music file.
Open your hard drive (Home), then Music, then iTunes, then Media, and drag the music file into the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
Start iTunes by double clicking its icon.  The music you added should appear in it.
Click the triangle at the top of the window.
Alternatively, double click on any file with an iTunes icon on it and it will open iTunes , add it, and play.  This is okay for right now but pretty soon you'll want to do it another way.
Find a 10 year old who can teach you how to use computers.

What if you take this same topic of an external hard drive with music but instead of directly attached to the computer the music is on a Network Attached hard drive(NAS)? Will I be able to add music to my ipod without any problem? Step that up a notch, will the two computers on my network be able to recognize the music on the NAS? Will the two users be able to create their own playlists and update their ipods independently? Now step up that up one more notch, will I be able to do this with one PC running XP and my macbook with OS X?
Before I run out and buy a NAS I want to be certain. I also would like to convert my DVD library in the future and put it on the network available to an AppleTV or other UpNp media player in the future, because I love having power at my finger tips.

  • Why does iTunes play consecutive songs by the same artist so often?

Is there a way to stop or greatly reduce the issue in iTunes of playing consecutive songs by the same artist when playing in "shuffle" mode?  There was a slide tool in preferences that allowed you to set that to "less likely" or "more likely" but that appears to be gone from iTunes now, or at least I can't find it.  Not that it matters much, the problem was WORSE when they added that "tool" anyway.  It was less likely before they added whatever that algorithm was.  Now this happens constantly that my iPod plays 2 or 3 consecutive songs by the same artist when I am playing it in shuffle mode.  I have over 3500 songs on my iPod but it will usually play only a small percentage of those before starting to repeat also.  It seems to "stick" in a small area of the alphabet when in shuffle mode.  Meaning, it will play artists whose names begin with say L through R and ONLY those artists, then repeat a bunch of them after playing only 20-30 songs.  Everything else seems to be working fine on my iPod but this.  I suspect it's the programming in iTunes but of course, I have no way to prove that and Apple being the quasi Communist gov't type that they are, I can get no answers from them on this or most questions I have.  Maybe somebody here has encountered one of these issues and can offer some resolution?

I wish Apple would just remove the feature that supposedly addresses this issue.  It worked better when there was no setting for this.  I'm just tired of being pencil whipped by Big Brother.

  • How can i convert my song into .mr4 for making it my ringtone, just renaming it is not working?

how can i convert my song into .mr4 for making it my ringtone, just renaming it is not working?

    Here's how:
If you are using Windows, make sure you are able to view the file extension.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219
    1. Select a title (.mp3 or .m4a) in your iTunes Music Library
    2. Do File > Get Info on selected title (Windows do Edit > Get Info)
    3. In the dialog choose Options tab
    4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)
    5. Close dialog.
    6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version
Note: If you don't have Create AAC version, switch in menu File > Preferences...(Windows do Edit > Preferences...) > General > Import Settings... > Import Using: AAC Encoder.
    7. When it is done, drag the newly create title to the desktop.
    8. Delete the newly create title in iTunes. <-- This step is important
    9. Rename the title on your desktop from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r
    10. Drag and drop it into iTunes
    Now you have a ringtone.
Make sure it is selected in iTunes > Tones for syncing with your new iPhone.

  • How do I play itune songs consecutively?

How do I play itune songs consecutively? They either play in a loop individually or stop at the end. Both on Windows and iphone.

Make sure the Repeat control is off. Tap to cycle between Repeat Off, Repeat and Repeat Track.
There is a similar control on the iPhone.
In the Songs view Ctrl-Click on any empty checkbox to ensure all the tracks are checked. Unchecked tracks are skipped during normal track-to-track playback.

If you have a tool, try removing the battery cover and chech out. Some times the camera pin may have been misplaced. If so, you can fix it yourself.
