How do I play MPEG-4 (.MP4) files smoothly on QT 7.0.3?

Since upgrading to QT Player 7.0.3 and tiger (10.4.3), none of my MP4 (AAC) files play smoothly on QT. Both the audio and video play with intermittent jerks. Playback in VLT is fine, and playback in QT 6.x was not problematic. I have reinstalled QT 7.0.1 and then 7.0.3, but to no avail. This is an unexpected glitch in my QT 7.0.3 because QT is adertised in the following glowing terms:
"QuickTime has a legacy of supporting and developing the latest digital media standards ensuring that you can create and play back the widest range of standard formats in the industry with QuickTime... In fact, the ISO chose the QuickTime file format as the basis for the MPEG-4 file format."
And "With the free QuickTime Player or browser plug-in, you can play back any compliant MPEG-4 file."
These PR statements are not ringing true with me.
Does anybody else have this problem? Does anybody have a fix for me?
Thanks,

Open the app, change the output format to 44100Hz,
and try the file again.
You may need to do this each time a non standard
formats is used.
Thanks for the info. This was a work around "fix" I noticed in another thread. It seems to have unhappy side effects in other aps--which means it is not a good fix. However, I did try it when I first noticed it in the other thread. It did not work for me when I tried it then, and it does not work for me now. My output format is and has been set at 44100 Hz. My MP4 files still do not play correctly.
Concerning the terminology of "non-standard format," as far as I know my files are standard format--straight from a relatively new camera. However, I readily admit I do not know what a "non-standard format" might be. But even if my files might be "non-standard" (whatever that means), it baffles me that this problem did not occur with QT 6.x but does with QT 7.x. The sensible thing to assume with a QT upgrade (required for Tiger, no less--this is not an optional upgrade) is that QT 7.x should be backwards compatible with "non-standard" files that played flawlessly on QT 6.x.
Anyway, thanks for the hint. I am still looking for a solution.

  • How do I play MPEG-2 video files on my iPod Classic 80 gig?

Will it play MPEG-2 files taken on my Sony HDD video camera? each time I try and import them or drag and drop them in to iTunes nothing happens. Do I need to convert them to MPEG-4 format and if so how do I do this? What software is needed and where can I get it?
    Cheers

If you have Quicktime Pro, you should be able to open the video files, then Export to Ipod. Quicktime has automatic settings that will convert the audio/video to match the file types of ipods. Once done with each file, just drag them into iTunes, they will get copies to specific folders as necessary, and you can sync them to your ipod.

how can I play MPEG-4 files in Premier Elements?  It plays in iTunes but I only see video in Elements

    LGSh
Lots of questions, lots of answers needed as mentioned by Hunt. But please include what version of Premiere Elements that you are using when you reply.
How are you importing these file into your Premiere Elements project?
After you drag your file to the Timeline, do you see both an video and audio component (on Video 1/Audio 1) or is there nothing on the Audio 1 track? If you can see a wave form or file on Audio 1, have you checked all the program's volume settings including Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and the ASIO settings?
    More later.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything written.

Thanks for the suggestion. I subsequently realized that my Airplay settings on ITunes are ok. The problem is with the settings on Pure Music. I still havent figured this out. When i stream using just ITunes, it works fine, but when I play music using ITunes / Pure Magic, I still have an issue with Apple TV.

  • Spectrum Analyzer GPIB Record and Save to AVI, MPEG, or MP4 file

My objective is to record a waveform using labview and save it as an AVI, MPEG, or MP4 file to be able to replay it back at a later time.
I would like to know if it is possible to capture a waveform for 30 to 60 second and save it as an movie format file.
I have Labview 2013 version, Spectrum Analyzer N9010A and GPIB-USB-HS.

Start by looking for the LabVIEW driver for your instrument. There may be something in there for capturing your waveform.

  • To Decode and play  MPEG-2 Video files with JMF

    Hi ALL,
I amin serious trouble with a problem. I am developing a Simulator, a function of which is to decode MPEG-2 Video files in real time and play it as well.I have got a MPEG-2 Decoder implemented in C from an open source and need to integrate with my Simulator which is writtebn in Java. The integration part I am doing via JNI(Java Native Interface). Now I have a bunch of C files in MPEG-2 decoder which are to be compiled during the Execution of the Java Simulator. Can anybody give some idea about how to call multiple C files from the Java Source through JNI at one go? Another problem I am facing is in calling a single C code from the traditional "HelloWorld" Java Code itself. The problem comes when I am trying to compile the shared library between the C native code and Java Code in my Linux Machine...I am getting the following message:

  • How can i play encrypted video(.mp4) in iphone app?

    Hello,
I want to play encrypted mp4 video in my app.
How can i play encrypted video in iphone app?

Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately I'm still not able to get this to work.
First, I don't see an export to Quicktime in AppleTV format setting. The only choices that I have are export to Quicktime in Full, CD, email or streaming video format.
I tried both full and CD but I still cannot get it to my AppleTV. Once the video is in Quicktime format I drag and drop the file into my iTunes library. It shows up in the movies directory on Itunes but when I sync Itunes with Apple TV - nothing. Everything else syncs but just not the quicktime movie.
    Any ideas?

  • Playing MPEG-2 video files

    Hello!
I have a series of .mov files filmed at my wedding, and I'm not able to open them in QT X or QT 7.6.6.
The codecs listed in the Info for the files are: MPEG-2, Linear PCM, and Timecode.
Original format is MPEG HD, at 1280 x 720.
I purchased the MPEG-2 codec from Apple, and when I attempt to open the .mov files in QT 7.6.6, the viewer window opens along with another Quicktime message window that says:
"Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available
    from the QuickTime Components page."
This page lists various available component options, but there's no information about which if any is the "additional software" required.
Any tips about how to get these files to play would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!
    David

Your first paragraph would seem to indicate the files may have been imported using iMovie '08/'09 which strips the AC3 audio from the original "muxed" MPEG-2 camcorder files and converts it to PCM audio and then converts the MPEG-2 video to all I-frame MPEG-2 which can then be edited by iMovie. If true, then your second paragraph would tend to indicate the special QT MPEG-2 component (different from the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component purchased from Apple) cannot be accessed on the current system on which you are trying to view the files and would be why you are getting the missing software component message.

  • How can I export a compressed mp4 file from iMovie (mavericks)?

    Hello everyone,
I had just downloaded the new version of iMovie.
I'm very amazed to see that the funcion "Export movie with QuickTime" is not available.
    I used this funcion to customize parameters of exported videos;
How can now customize parameters? I have to use another external software to produce mp4 files???
    Thankyou for answers.
    Gianmarco

If you use "Share" and choose 540P, 720P or 1080P it will be mp4, withH264 codec.  You just have to once figure out what spefic settings (for example bitrates) are used with the defaults from iMovie 13 (look-up the exported files with info in Quicktime), and wether they are ok with you.
In the former version I already used automator to achieve some specfic settings for my web-video's, now I think I don't need that anymore.
The only way around as far as I know is the usage of QTPro7 or compressor. Export as 1080P and open the file with one of those apps.

  • How do I play my MTS (AVCHD) files on my TV?

I have read alot bout media players like Roku and WDTVbut it appears that almost every piece of hardware out there does not support .MTS (AVCHD) files. Which is insane to think Canon sells HD camcorders that saves in a format that isn't supported anywhere...Maybe they should make their own Smart TV or media player...of course that's beside the point.
Anyway, from my cursory research, it seems there are only a few options:
1---Convert my .MTS files to some file that's readable on a media player or Smart TV
2---Connect my laptop to my TV with VGA cable or WiDi
3---Use the PLEX channel on Roku
So far PLEX seems like the easiest solution, but I wanted to get the forum's opinion. My main concern is that converting/transcoding video into new formats will lose HD quality. Similarly, I'm concerned that streaming my videos on TV through WiDi does not provide the same HD experience.  With that being said, would PLEX be any better that those other options?
More concise:  How do I play my home movies on my TV retaining the highest HD quality?

Well ,first you should know , if you compress your video, no matter what format you convert to , it will defenitely has the quality loss, even you will not notice by your eyes. But you can improve it manually. During your conversion , (whatever converter app you use), it may have the option to let you imporve the Bitrate and Frame rate. That two will help you improve the quality. But try to keep the balance between those two or you will get some blurred video.

  • How do you play MPG and WMV files on a MAC?

I am no longer able to play MPG and WMV files on my MAC. I have Flip4MAC, which is I think what I used to use to play them (but not sure). All I know is that I used to be able to before but now they won't play. Do I need some sort of different software or has Microsoft started making these files in a way that won't allow MAC users to play them? If anyone is kind enough to help, please explain in the most basic terms as I'm not that computer literate.

If the .mpg/.mpeg files are non-rights-protected you should be able to play them in Quicktime or iTunes. If the wmv files are non-rights-protected you should be able to use Flip4Mac. If the mpg/mpeg or wmv files are rights-protected you'll need the software or subscription that allows you to view copyrighted files.

  • HDR-CX405 How to stop dual recording, only mp4 file needed.

Hello Sony, Yesterday i purchased HDR-CX405. My question is, how to stop dual recording? Only mp4 file needed. Both file created on memory card while shooing video scene - AVCHD and mp4. I don't want AVCHD (too big file), just want mp4 file only.

    Hi mkpi49,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
I would just like to confirm the answer VideoGeek posted. The camera can only record in Mp4 when it's set to Dual Rec. Both an AVCHD and Mp4 file will be created and written on your card. We would also suggest recording in AVCHD and later converting the file to Mp4 using the PlayMemories Home software.
