How do I Port a Number over?

I haven't gotten my iphone yet, it's still in the mail, but I want to have everything ready so that I can get it workign ASAP. How do I port a number over from a verizon phone to the iphone and what can I do to make the process easier? Thanks in advance.

I Just got an iPhone yesterday and finished the activation around 3:30 P.M. and got this email:
*Congratulations, AT&T is now transferring your existing mobile number to this iPhone.*
*Your iPhone mobile number will be:*
*Your iPhone may now make outgoing calls but will be unable to receive calls on your existing mobile number until the transfer is complete.*
*You will receive an email confirmation once your mobile number transfer is complete. If you have not done so already, please connect your iPhone to your computer now to complete this activation.*
Its been about 19 hours and the number still hasnt been ported over. Who should I call to see what the problem is?

• TS4268 When I send an imessage with wifi it send it from the original number I got with the phone before I ported my number over. When I send an imessage on the network it comes from my own ported number. How do I change this?

When I send an imessage with wifi it sends it from the original number I got with the phone before I ported my number over. When I send an imessage on the network it comes from my own ported number. How do I change the imessage so that it comes from my own ported number?

Yeah send it from your phone.
Your computer has no knowledge of your phones phone number, it is not a phone.

• How do I port a number from Sprint?

I just signed up for Verizon yesterday with an individual line, and need to port my number from Sprint (also an individual line). What number do I need to call?

Good morning tommaxwell,
Welcome to our happy wireless family! We LOVE welcoming new members to Verizon! Since a cell phone is one of few things that we keep within reach at all times, I can certainly understand the benefits of keeping your current number! Some of these benefits are:
• No new number to remember
• No need to contacts friends, family member, and associates for a contact update.
• No unnecessary expense of printing new business cards and other stationeries.
May I ask have you started the port process yet? If not then it will be my pleasure to assist! First, I would like to provide a link to some frequently asked questions, http://bit.ly/qDhvBY. Once you are ready to start the process then you can send me a direct message with your full name, contact number, and a brief summary of the task at hand. I took the liberty of following you and it is pending your approval. I look forward to hearing from you my friend!
Thank you…

• How do I port a number from a different service provider to Verizon?

I have a work cell phone and a personal phone. I want to port my work number to my personal Verizon iphone. What do i need to do to do this? And what information will I need to provide?

Knowing your options is important SR84. Is your work number a current Verizon Wireless mobile number? If not, the process you would take is called an LNP Port in Telephone Number Change. For additonal information click, http://vz.to/1jogjzV

• How do I port my old number? Why am I not the account owner? I set the account up, I am the one paying the bill.

Just got a new verizon phone. I had a virgin Mobile phone. I just want to port my number. The web site in no help. Called some number I found. Bad connection. I could not hear the lady and she dropped my call. Also, why am I not the account owner. I set this account up.

Are you porting your number over to VZW from Virgin on a new line or are you trying to do this on a line you've already established? As for establishing account credentials...call VZW @ 800-922-0204 and I'm sure once you verify who you are then they'll be able to at least help with that part...

• Charges with Tmobile if you port a number. I was misinformed.

I was not informed by Verizon that when I opened this account that I would be charged a whole billing cycle with my prior cell provider which was Tmobile. In fact the people at Verizon where I purchased the plan told me I did not need to do anything. First off I believe it is improper that T-mobile had my billing Cycle from the 8th to the 8th but had my contract ending on the 16th. I believe their portability charges to be in fact thievery and anyone consorting with them to be guilty of Racketeering on a large scale because no one can escape the full billing with Verizon telling you that you need to do nothing to transport the phone number to a new phone and then Tmobile sitting on the port completion until the 8th of the following month. Verizon told me I needed to do nothing that the porting was their business and they would complete it in a day. I was under the impression at worst I could be billed for 10 days.
Anyway today is the 15th of October 2011 and I just paid a 127.38 cent bill at Tmobile who's customer support rubbed my nose in the fact that I could do nothing about Tmobile effectively stealing somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 dollars from me. Yes the bill gave me a breakdown of 24 dollars for the eight days and then billed me on September 16th the day that my service contract terminated for 69 bucks and change. I do not intend to let this go as this wording done by Tmobile to permit them to do this was done in 2010 while I was burying a family member and arranging probate and such. I was not fully informed by Verizon but people here need to know that unless you call Tmobile when you switch the pain of being shorted what I consider to be a serious amount of money will be exactly what will happen to you. I have not finished as well because these are what I consider to be intentional damaging charges by Tmobile after not missing a bill and employing them for eight years faithfully. This is what you get for being faithful. It even says it on my bill. Faves unlimited Loyalty plan.
There were a couple reasons I cancelled them. The main reason is that Tmobile has no coverage anywhere off an interstate or the edge of nearly any town in Wyoming for instance. They could not meet my demands. The other reason and I am sure there are literally thousands more people who had this happen. I had no text plan with Tmobile. They sent me numerous text messages themselves which I had all text messages set to blocked. Then they had the gall to charge me for their messages they sent me. That itself should spark an investigation to see where they keep the other set of books. Yeah the ones that are not cooked.
So as of today I was made aware by their so called customer service that because I did not call them on September the 16th when I had Verizon take my business that I am not only responsible for an additional 70 dollars in charges but they tell me this with great joy and a daring tone. The people that sold me the plan said that I did not need to do anything and I would be fine as long as my contract was up that day with Tmobile. I am here to tell everyone that is not so according to Tmobile and I have a bill and a receipt along with a T&C quote to file with my now permanent dislike for Tmobile because this action lacks full disclosure and in fact I was mislead apparently unknowlngly by Verizon. I just thought everyone should know that while I was being told by the salesman there would be no problem and my wife was saying I should not worry that you should always worry and being in a tough economic situation right now has me quite **bleep**. I have told consumer affairs and next I am seeking anyone who can make a valid ruling on the obvious theft of my money both through the charges of messaging when it was blocked and clearing my portability on the 16th yet intentionally charging me through October 07th 2011 .

... That's all on you and has nothing to do with the carriers in this regard. YOU agreed to their terms when you got service. I ported a number over from T-Mobile myself and that's how it is and it says so in their Terms and service which YOU and I agreed to. I assume you haven't read it completely like you say you have. It's in there, and always been in there.

• Have you been successful porting your number and keeping unlimited data?

Hi , I am trying to save money by getting rid of my texting plan($20) and having Google Voice as my SMS provider. I want to keep my number so I will port my number to GV. For a 1-time fee of $20. The Problem is that during the process some people lose their UNLIMITED DATA package. I, of course don't want this to happen. I have searched the interwebs and found that this forum had the good information on it.
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779321?start=0&tstart=0

See post # 3 and # 85 for detailed instructions. I was in the process of doing it but Google Wallet denied my transaction because I needed to verify my account. This process takes 3 days. So I will wait and try again. I would like to know if the rest of the verizon community has been succesful or has regretted doing this.
I feel that this process should work and would like to keep this discussion open so other people can do the same. We all know sms and voice mins are cheap and carriers are just milking money from data plans.
PS. I felt # 85 was really straight forward
Joined the community to thank the OP - and to add in another success story. Before I start my 'experience share', I think its pertinent to mention that I have the Galaxy S4 [Android]
Started the GV Port on Monday at about 3PM. Provided GV with personal details, phone number, billing PIN (you can set one up or change your current PIN on the VZW website after logging on to your account) and my account number (excluded the -00001 after my account number as suggested by other posters on this thread). Google charged me $20 to complete the port.
On Tuesday morning, approximately at about 11AM, I logged into my VZW account and requested a new number (VZW's website states that this process is free if done online). At this time, my GV Port status showed "Number Change Pending". Once the new number was assigned to me by VZW (the number is issued instantly), I had to turn my phone off and wait a few minutes before turning it back on. When I turned my phone back on, it showed that the new number was active (no VZW notifications - just tried a test call from my landline).
Almost 24 Hours down to the minute (so at about 3PM on Tuesday), I got an email from GV stating that my port was complete. On the GV website, I then added in my new number (under Settings>Phones), and set all calls (and texts) to forward to my new number. GV walked me through a couple of programming steps - and confirmed that my GV calls would be forwarded to my new VZW number. Please note that if you want GV to pick up your VM's, then you will need to activate Google voicemail on the GV website (Settings>Phones). Else, VZW voicemail will end up picking up your calls - and a message like "this user has a VM box that has not been set up" will play.
I also opened up the GV app on my phone and changed the settings to "Make all calls through Google Voice". Also, I turned off the 'Messaging' app, and set the GV app as the default app for handling all texts.
As of now, I can make and receive calls via the setup described above. Folks receiving calls from me see my GV number on their displays (so no need to update folks with my new number), and when I receive calls on my GV number, my VZW phone displays the number of the person trying to reach me (so no updating my contacts list). Low priced international calls, desktop-based texting, unlimited storage of texts/VM's/call-logs, here I come!
My texts arent working yet, but GV states that it takes about 3 days before texting becomes active. When it does, I'm hoping that all texts will be routed via the GV app (I'm fairly certain that it will)
Other things to note:
Banking Apps: Some banking apps that require verification codes to be sent via text might stop working. I just got an email from BOFA this morning asking me to reverify my mobile number. Need to fix this once GV texting becomes active
Messaging: Existing texts on your device cannot be backed up/imported into GV. That said, Google Play has a couple of free apps that backup your entire message archive under a separate label within your Gmail account
Hope this helps someone else out there in taking the plunge. Seems like the process is fairly straightforward unless you decide to skip some steps or if you are impatient and try to change things too quickly (I would really urge you against skipping steps, hurrying things up, etc. GV is completely automated, and getting "support" is almost impossible).
All the best!"

You won't lose your unlimited data as long as your account stays active and you don't purchase a subsidized phone. I just did this yesterday and it took just a few minutes over 24 hours to port my number over to GV. I still have unlimited data. I pretty much followed the instructions you have above except I waited about 7 hours to get a new number from VZW just to make sure there were no hiccups. VZW says you may get some overages if you change your number immediately as opposed to on the first day of your billing cycle because they prorate your minutes and texts used. Luckily I have unlimited everything so it didn't make a difference for me. I'm planning on going over to T-Mobile. My home is a dead zone for cell phones and I always have a weak signal and sometimes don't get my calls. I figure if I'm going to pay for an unsubsidized phone, I might as well go with a company that has wifi calling and a cheaper unlimited plan. I pay $94/mo before taxes with VZW; I'll only be paying $59.50 with T-Mobile for the same plan with 2.5 GB tethering included. T-Mobile here in LA is pretty good and even if I don't get LTE, I can fall back on their HSPA+ network, which is way better than VZW's crippled 3G network. No regrets porting over. The ONLY way I'll stay with VZW is if they allow me to keep my unlimited data (not going to do Verizon Max) and get a subsidized phone. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW VERIZON?

• Just ported my number, cant recieve texts, calls. But i can make them...????

I got my iPhone 3g today and i ported my number over from t-mobile, i thought now one was texting me but i found out my phone wont recieve texts and wont recieve calls.. whats going on? • Help! Verizon won't port old phone number over to my FIOS house landline.

Hi, need help on resolving this issue with Verizon. Had Verizon FIOS triple play installed at my house about 12 days ago. HD Prime, 15/5 internet and Digital Voice landline. I switched from TimeWarner cable. I signed up online for Verizon FIOS and tried to use my current house telephone number when signing up. Next day I get a call from a Verizon rep telling me my order was lost even thou I had a confirmation number and that I would have to redo my online sign up.
I wanted to keep my old telephone number that I had with TimeWarner and port it over to Verizon. What I did to save my old house phone number was I ported my TimeWarner house telephone number over to an activated cellular Tracfone that I own. So I resigned up online and selected a new telephone number and the order went thru and I had my FIOS installed at my house.
What I have learned from talking with Verizon billing, is because my old telephone number that I had with TimeWarner had been originally given to me by Verizon many years back and then it was ported over to TimeWarner from Verizon that Verizon now won't port the old number back over to my house landline because they have already ported it out once years ago for me.
One suggested I create a new account, don't know it this can be done or not. I got a really good price on the FIOS Triple Play bundle I had installed and don't want to loose the great Verizon FIOS price deal I have.
Really frustrated at this point, being told before installation that I could keep my old phone number, spending a lot of time on the phone and then being told I can't do it after installation is completed.
Any ideas on how to get or make Verizon port over my old telephone number I have on my Tracfone now to my Verizon FIOS landline? I was told by a Verizon rep that it can't be done and they won't do it since the telephone number is my old Verizon phone number from many years ago that they ported out they won't port in back it now. Wow, talk about a "Can't do" attitude.

I would like to port our Skype 0203 number over to our new office telephone DDI.
Our new supplier says we need permission from Skype to do this, please advise who I need to contact and how I can get this done ??
Existing Skype Number : 0203 2*****
New DDI Number to Port to : 0203 7******
[Numbers redacted for privacy.]
"We need an LOA from the current provider advising that they are happy to port the number, the customer can get this from Skype and then we can advise of lead times etc."
thanks,
Lloyd

Hi, lloydgprice, and welcome to the Community,
It is my understanding that the receiving carrier does all of the transition work in the background. I have requested clarification on this, and will post back with information when I have news to share.

• How to find port number , when there will be different instance number ?

In case of portal url,
port number is 50000 for default instance number 00.
how to find port number , when there will be different instance number , instead of 00?
Thanks

Hi
You can find the port number by your instance number as follows:
There is a general format for the port number like you have mentioned.
For 00 instance the port number is 50000.
The general format for the port number goes like this:
5<instance_no>00
If your instance number is 01 then the port number would be 50100.
It depends on the installation type which you perform.
You can also change the instance number during the installation but normally you dont do this.
If you have many components or units installed on your system you may have more than one instance in that case it may go like this 00, 01, 02....accordingly port number will be 50000, 50100, 50200...resp.
Hope this solves your doubt.
If you need some more clarification please lemme know.
Regards

• How to port a number and how long it takes to take effect

We've seen these questions come up a bit, so here's a brief summary A "port" is when you switch your phone service to Telstra from another provider but would like to keep your phone number You can do this in a Telstra shop (shops can be located and appointments be made here https://www.telstra.com.au/telstra-store, or over the phone by ringing 125 111 Once a port request is made, Telstra gets in touch with the other carrier. Whilst a request can be submitted anytime, the actual processing between carriers only happens during business hours. The process can take up to 48-72 hours, but it can also be much quicker - it depends on both carriers Hope this helps.

Hi,I want to port my old phone number from Three to Telstra. I signed a new iphone with Telstra several months ago, at that time, my Three mobile was still in contract, but Telstra sales told me I can porting my number when I finish my three contract . Now my Three contract has finished, but when I call Telstra call centre, after one hour waiting, they told me need go to shop to do it. and then I went to shop, shop guy told me they don't have system to do it, I still need call customer service!!!! and I made a call at shop, waited for 40 mins no one answer!!!!!!!! today, I used online 24X7 support. Support told me I can't do it !!!!!!If I want to port old number, I need have another Telstra mobile service!!! and I need pay my current service as well!!!!!!!!I can't believe it!!!!!! It's very not professional!!! I already done porting with Optus , Three and Vodaphone many times at the same situation, they don’t have such ridicules rules!!!! I really don’t want to waste hours and hours again on waiting queue! Please help me out this issue soon. Before I thought Telstra is the best one in Aus, so I transfer all things to Telstra, phone, internet, mobile phones. Now feel like the service even worse than those small companies. Very not happy!!!!

• How do you set the number of rows in a spreadsheet, so that even when you drag data in, in writes over those rows instead of adding a new row?

How do you set the number of rows you want in a spreadsheet, so that even when you drag data in, in writes over those rows instead of adding a new row?

After the discovery reported above, I filed this report :
Bug ID# 10073038
Summary:
When Numbers is used on a system with decimal comma a csv file may be good AND wrong
Steps to Reproduce:
With Numbers v2, you introduced an interesting enhancement.
In system using the comma as decimal separator, Numbers requires csv files using the semi-colon as values delimiter.
In fact it’s true if we OPEN the document dragging its icon on Numbers one or thru the open dialog.
This said.
(1) Drag and drop a csv built with the 'semi-colon' standard on a table or on a sheet
(2) Drag and drop a csv built with the 'comma' standard on a table or on a sheet
Expected Results:
Every normally constituted user assume that in
case (1) he will get a perfectly built table
case (2) he will get every cells of a row in a single cell
Actual Results:
In fact you forgot the drag and drop way of use and in
case (1) every values separated by semi-colon are inserted in a single cell
case (2) values separated by comma are correctly spread in a table
isn’t it ridiculous ?
Regression:
Except looking in QuickView to see which is exactly the structure of the file to decide the way we will insert it in a Numbers document, we may use an applescript fair enough to replace the semi-colons by TAB characters
or
to replace the commas by TABs and the decimal periods by commas
Notes:
While I am on this subject, I wish to make two proposals:
(1) It would be fine to format the date according to the ISO format year-mm-dd when you export a Numbers doc to csv.
Doing that, dates would be imported correctly in every countries.
At this time, on an English system, you export as mm/dd/year.
If the doc is open on a system using the format dd/mm/year, the results will be odd.
On a system using the format dd/mm/year, you export this way and so, if the doc is open on a system using the format mm/dd/year the results are odd too.
As every localized versions accept the ISO format (at least on entry), using it in the export scheme would give a correct behavior everywhere.
(2) It would be fine to add the format Tab Separated Values in the Export pane.
TSV + ISO date format would give documents opening flawlessly everywhere.

Hi Bellu77,
Using the Character Viewer you can add a ² to make km² in Mountain Lion:
OS X Mountain Lion: Enter special characters and symbols

By default, the Digits list is not listed in Character Viewer, but that article includes instructions on showing other lists including Digits:
Customize the Character Viewer
If you don’t see the character or symbol that you want to use, try customizing the Character Viewer.
Choose Customize List from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) in the top-left corner of the Character Viewer.
Select the categories that you want to appear in the Character Viewer, and then click Done.
Cheers!
