HT4972 How do I upgrade my iPOD Touch from iOS 4.2.1 to 5?
How do I upgrade my iPOD Touch from iOS 4.2.1 to 5? I've reset it, erased it, but still won't install iOS5.
You most likely have a 2G iPod touch which cannot go beyond iOS 4.2.1. If it is an 8gb or 16 gb iPod without a camera, it is a 2G iPod.

How to find a lost iPod Touch with IOS 4.3 installed?
How do you go about finding a lost iPod Touch with IOS 4.3 installed? I had updated my iPod Touch to IOS 4.3 and I had read something about the update having the ability to help one find their lost device.
Is there documentation anywhere that outlines how this works?
Thanks,
JeffHere is Apple's document on "Find my iPod Touch"...

TS2634 how do i update my ipod touch to ios 5.0?
How do i update my ipod touch to a newer version? It says I don't have any updates when I search.
Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article. As it's running an iOS version prior to 5.0, there won't be an option to update from the device itself.
A first or second generation iPod touch can't be updated to iOS 5.

HT4962 How do I update my ipod touch to ios 5 without loosing all of my data?
Hey,
I really want/ need to update my ipod touch to ios 5. I dont want to loose all of my media, apps etc. Is there a possible way of doing this? Ive heard about backing up your things but im unsure as to how to do it. Any help would be much appriciated.
Thanks, RosaAs long as you do the update on the computer you use for syncing and all thesynced media (apps, music, video etc) ore in you iTunes libray or computer (for synced photos), you should be OK. Howevery, things do happen so you should have a backup of your iTunes library somewhere..

How to get iBooks on Ipod touch with iOS 4.2.1
Ipod touch with iOS 4.2.1 but can't install new iBooks as it is supported from iOS from 5.0.
But my iPod can't be upgraded from iOS 4.2.1.
Please suggest how to proceed on this.
Thanks,
AshishUnless you downloaded and still have an older compatible version of the iBooks app somewhere (e.g. on your computer or on a backup) then you won't be able to use the app - only the current version of each app is available in the store.

How to get music off ipod touch 5 and onto new hard drive
Help.
My PC crashed. I have an itunes acct. I was able to back up most music to external hard drive - except that which was more recently purchased by son through his ipod touch 5 (that he got for Christmas.)
I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive...
I have a new laptop. Itunes is not yet installed on it.
I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs...
Is this right?
Or do my libraries still exist?
I would really feel most comfortable if I could just get the songs off of his IPod and into back up before I install ITunes on the new laptop.
I can always re-import the songs back into Itunes, can't I?
I am not too computer savvy - please consider in reply.
Thanks all!"I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive..."
Correct. The iod touch is not a backup/storage device.
"I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs..."
Also correct.
"Or do my libraries still exist?"
Your library will only be where you put them. You shoudl always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer.
Copy everything from the backup copy to your new computer.

How do I upgrade my iPod touch to IOS 5.0.1 without losing my app data?
I want to upgrade my iPod touch (4.3.3) to IOS 5.0.1, but I don't want to lose my app data (Tiny Tower, etc.)
I transferred all my purchases to the host computer. I also backed up my app data. Before I update the IOS software on my iPod touch, I'd like to find out if the app data on my iPod will be erased as part of the upgrade.
If so, will a restore from backup restore the app data?See Here Updating to iOS 5 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
