How do I prevent CS4 from creating HTML files on export of an image?

Everytime I export an image i am getting a html file created too. It is annoying having to delete them manually every time, and there seems to be no option to turn this feature off.
Generally I dislike CS4 compared to Macromedia Fireworks v8.

You need to select "images only" in the dialogue box when you choose Export

How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?
So... Quite often I choose to 'Edit in photoshop' from Lightroom but then end up not saving the result. (for example, because I just wanted to experiment with the photo, or I'm not satisfied with the results)
However, Lightroom always creates a copy of the original photo, which stays in the catalog even if the photoshop changes aren't saved.
Is there a way to stop this, and only add a photo if it has been edited in PS?

Select 'Open the Image in PS as a Smart Object'. The image will be rendered by ACR in memory without being written to disc until you save it from within PS.

How do I prevent CS4 from crashing opon opening without having to delete Flexnet Publisher.

When I open CS4, it crashes with out an error message box coming up. The second attempt, it crashes with the message box saying, Error 150:30, Licensing for this product has stopped working. I then have to go to the hard drive > library > application support > Flexnet publisher and delete it. I then can open up CS4 and it stays open. I have had to do this procedure for many months. I am using Mac OS.6.8. Is there a way of preventing CS4 from crashing without having to go through this procedure?

If it crashes, you would get a crash report dialog.
It sounds like you either have a bad install, or a bad license.

How do I keep CS4 from creating _notes on my server?

When I do 'puts' CS4 automaitically creates a _notes folder on my server. I don't use notes (a short explanation might help me decide if I need to use it) so would prefer that the folder not be made.
So, is there a way to change the default because I cannot find it in preferences.

You control _notes on a site-by-site basis. Open the Site Definition dialog box by selecting Site > Manage Sites. Select the site name, and click Edit. Access the Advanced tab/button at the top of the dialog box, and select the Design Notes category. There's an option in there to Upload Design notes for sharing. Deselect it.
The _notes folder is used for a wide range of purposes. As the Site Definition dialog box says, Design Notes are used for integration with Fireworks and Flash. What it doesn't say is that the _notes folder is also used for site synchronization. If Maintain synchronization information is selected in the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box, the _notes folder will be needed on both the local and remote computers.

After I print a web page using PDF Create! 5, Firefox opens the file so i can view it. Before I print, I select print properties and disable "view resulting pdf". However, the file is always opened in Adobe Acrobat, although I believe I have Adobe Reader set as default. I do not want any file to open. This happens on my non-privileged accounts. On my privileged account, the file is not opened. I have removed Firefox profiles, re-installed Firefox, Reset Firefox in Help-Troubleshooting. PDF Create!5 print screen can only be viewed in a host program such as Firefox, Libre-office Writer, or any other program that prints. They do not open the file either.

Thanks for your help. This is the Scansoft (Nuance) program. What I do not understand is why when I tell the print driver not to open the file with a privileged account, it obeys me. I am not sure where in the registry I would look for the information. I do not want to, but perhaps I should remove the Adobe Acrobat program (temporarily?) - then what would it do? Again, when I print from other programs - browsers, wordprocessors, etc - the file is not opened after printing, just with FireFox. I guess I can live with it, I have spent too much time already.

How do I prevent Photostream from creating empty projects?

With photostream on, it creates a project labelled "Nov 2011 Photo Stream" that is empty. I don't remember creating this project, but I can't swear that I didn't. I delete the project, but everytime I reopen Aperture, it is recreated. If I turn photostream off within Aperture, this behavior stops. Turn photostream back on in Aperture, the zombie project comes back.

But why does it keep coming back? I understand if the current month is recreated again, but we are in January 2013 and I have Aug, Nov and Dec 2012 that keep reappearing, even though I've already moved the photos to other projects and deleted them.
I can only assume at this point its a bug, but do you have any other ideas on kiling it without having to disable the auto import?

How do I prevent Spotlight from categorizing 'JAR' files as 'Application'

I'm a java developer and consequently I have a lot of JAR files on the filesystem. The JAR file format is a standard archive format for java, and is used mostly to package library code - the java equivalent of a DLL. They can also be created as 'executable JAR's, but this is (very) infrequent compared to the library usage.
Spotlight seems to think every JAR file is an application, and because I have a lot of java applications and development stuff installed, I can no longer reliably use Spotlight to find actual applications because the search results are overflowing with useless JAR file entries.
Is there any way to configure spotlight to not classify JARS as applications? Or, alternately, can I make Spotlight ignore JARs completely? Either would save me a lot of time..

There are several things in the current version of Spotlight that are either broken or just plain wrong. It looks like you have found another. When I look at the metadata for a jar file I see that its type is, well, a java jar file, and its content tree declares it to be a com.sun.java-archive. Finder gets this right: if you do GetInfo on such a jar file its kind is shown as "Java JAR file"--as it should be.
When I made a saved search, using the Kind drop-down menu to get the pre-defined Application, and then looked to see what criteria Spotlight was using to define "application" (and yes, the search included jar files in its results), I discovered Spotlight was NOT using the simple, straightforward "kMDItemKind=Application" as one would expect. Instead it is using something I had never heard of to define an Application, to wit "_kMDItemGroupId = 8"--furthermore, I believe characterizing applications that way has been deprecated. Be that as it may, it doesn't work to find the things you want, and exclude the things you don't.
There is no way for a user to fix this. The only thing you can do is not let Spotlight define the kind. Thus, if you bring up a search window do not use the Kind drop-down menu to select Application. Instead select Other from the menu and then type Application. You then get only things whose type declaration is Application, and you don't get jar files or widgets.
The other option is to exclude jar files by typing
NOT jar
in the search for box (you'll still get widgets though). You can also add that boolean restriction if you are using the menu bar Spotlight search.

How do I prevent AE from saving .AEP files in the wrong folders?

I've been using AE heavily for about 6 months, and it has this really pesky basic Windows UI problem that makes life quite frustrating. I work on lots of projects that I maintain sequentially numbered in their respective folders. Typically in Windows when you choose "Save As" windows defaults to the folder the current file resides in. For some reason After Effects defaults to the last folder I saved a file in, which often times is not the folder I am in. So I end up with project files from projectA stored in the projectB folder. This leads to version control problems when members of the team can't find the most recent version of projectA and so they start working on the previous version of ProjectA and later on ask me where all my changes are. I want to believe that AE has a checkbox in preferences somewhere that says "make save-as feature operate like every other windows program" - but I haven't found it yet. Does anyone have any advice on this topic?

I think you are operating on wrong assumptions - a project is just a reference to other files plus some internal data, so it doesn't exactly make sense to maintain endless lists of absolute paths, given that you can import things back and forth in a million ways. What happens as soon as you import a project into another one? What, when you collect files? What happens when you re-import pre-rendered files? A "same origin" policy would be riddled with tons of issues to figure out the logic as to what the user actually wants to do and which path is the correct one.... I've never missed any such feature.

i then scroll thru my filmstrip and apply star ratings.
suddenly my images are appearing with a one star rating automatically.

The first place to check is your Metadata Preset you are applying on/just after import. Is it applying the stars?

How do I prevent Mail from Zipping the attachment?

When I send a .pages file by e-mail, Mail zips the file to .pages.zip.
The network software at this University blocks .zip. How do I prevent Mail from zipping the file? I tried turning off the "send windows-friendly", but but still zips.

Assuming this is iWork '08 or earlier, the "documents" are actually packages. A package is really a folder hierarchy. A folder cannot be emailed unless it is archived somehow. Mail does this automatically; most other email programs would be incapable of sending a bare Pages document at all.
You could use some other non-blocked archive format, like tar or StuffIt. Or maybe you could rename it so that the mail servers don't recognize it as zip. You would have to instruct your recipient to rename it back. I understand that iWork '09 archives documents by default, although they are not named .zip, so that should be no longer an issue.

Using JDeveloper 10.1.2 and ADF UIX technology. If i created a web application that contains many pages. Assume the application contains pages A,B,C,D.
The end user should access the pages A then B then C then D to get the transaction executed and commited correctly.
the problem is:
1- if a user navigates from A to B to C then he press the Back button to A then he commits the transaction, the data would be stored in correctly.
2- if page C requires some preparations in page B (initalization of session variables) and the user enters page A then he changes the URL to C, then this would cause inproper execution of application and so the data would be stored incorrectly.
so how can i prevent the user from pressing the back button of the browser (which i do not think is possible) or how can i prevent him from making any errors by inproper page navigation?

I really don't know if this is the correct way of doing it, but we prevent navigation directly to any page within our application if the HTTP Referer header is null. If it's null, we redirect to a page that says the user should use the navigation buttons provided and not enter the page via bookmarks, history, or direct navigation via a typed in URL.

How to prevent user from creating jobs

we need to prevent user from creating jobs on a dev enviorement. It's a 10.2.0.4 database standard on linux 64bits.
Their schema has only connect and resource roles. Is there a way to prevent them from creating jobs? In 11g it's the CREATE JOB permission, but in 10g i'm not sure how can i do this.

I use "Merge File into a Single File" to create a pdf file from many html files. However, the generated pdf file have the path information of the html files. I'm wondering how to generate a pdf without the path information.

Go to CREATE > Create PDF from Web Page > Click the SETTINGS button on the dialog that follows > Uncheck "Place headers and footers on new page".

How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory?

Hello guys
I'd like to know How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory but still keep their power of creating new folders in their personal 'my folder'?
I tried changing the 'manage privilage ---- create folder' to deny certain user accounts, but by doing so, it also stops the user from creating new folders in their 'my folder', which is not good..
I also tried going into these share folders and tried different access types such as 'change/delete', 'read', 'traverse folder' etc, but none of it work ideally. The 'change/delete' access still allows them to create new folders, 'read' access prevents creating new folders but also take away their power of saving reports..
Any thoughts on how to take away their ability to ONLY create new folders in share folder areas without affecting their other privileges?

Easy, on the shared folders root folder only give them 'read' or 'traverse folder' but on the the folder inside the shared folders root folder give them 'change/delete'. That means they can change anything inside those folders but not create any folders at the shared folders root level.
