How do I prevent downloading messages from timing out when a large file is attached to an incoming mail?

When an incoming message has a sizable attachment (say ~1 MB or more), I have to click manually on Get Messages many times before it finally downloads. Until I get lucky, the software seems to allow a period of about 30 seconds (I haven't clocked it) until it quits trying to download new messages. And until the message with the large attachment finally downloads, all other incoming messages are clogged behind it and can't get through. How do I adjust settings to prevent timing out or increase the time-out limit substantially to work around this difficulty? If there's no fix, I'll have to give up on Thunderbird and go directly to the provider website to get e-mail.

Is there any way you could get such attachments sent to you otherwise, such as file sharing? Thunderbird has a feature to address this, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/filelink-large-attachments Filelink], in case the sending party is using Thunderbird it may be useful to let them know about.
Are you using POP or IMAP? Either way many settings can fine tune this, in different ways, please add this information so we can provide a more detailed answer.

How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode and plugged in?

    Thanks tjk.
Those are great suggestions and got me looking in places I had not considered before. Unfortunately, the problem remains. The System Preferences did not have the shut down option activated and there are no parental controls active on the computer.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.

  • Losing Airport/ Get message "connection timed out" when try to re-connect

This has happened several times over the past few days. First time, trying to re-connect, it didn't see my network name. Then re-entered name, selected/joined, password shows up, but connection times out. Tonight, it saw my name, password showed up, but wouldn't connect, not matter what, with message "connection timed out."
Both times the only thing that worked was a re-start. Tonight, even after a re-start, got "connection timed out" message at first, but was able to get back on by clicking on the icon. I see the following logs.
Error: airportd MIG failed = -6 ((null)) (port = 26123)
Macintosh-3 Apple80211Agent[91]: Error joining .......: Connection timeout (-6 timeout connecting)
    Macintosh-3 airportd[673]: Error: Apple80211Associate() failed -6
Until this happens, the connection is solid, usually with 54 mbs. I've googled around for these logs, but haven't seen anything conclusive. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don't mean to add to the possible confusion here, but most newer routers (Apple included) allow their users to "hide" their network, so it's also very possible and likely in an apartment situation that you can pick up interference from a network that you or Air Radar cannot "see".
So, trying to find the "right" channel becomes a bit more of guessing game.
Understand that you need "g" for your devices. For the future though, you might watch the Air Radar screen for channels in the 36-48 and 149-161 range to see how much less activity is going on there.

  • How can I prevent "the connection has timed out" message.

Sorry, this is a duplicate. Can't determine how to delete. Mike.
Frequently takes a full minute to get to first page. Happens on IE as well as FF, also on my email client. After an hour or so, Thunderbird can no longer reach my email, with an error. To recover I have to reboot.
Occasionally "try again" button works on the "connection has timed out" message
Some tools which access the web take a long time to “update”,
is hard to recreate have not proven or disproven the firewall is a problem. Don't think WinXP firewall is on.
Tried refresh of Adobe Flash Player per suggestion in Firefox Support forum, no help.

    Hello there, FloridaAce.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some practical first steps for troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity issues with an iOS device:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
If going through the initial recommended steps doesn't yield a resolution to your issue, you may want to run through this section as well:
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How do I stop Firefox from timing out when connecting to NDN video servers?

Many news websites use the video servers at NDN. Firefox seems to invariably time out when trying to display videos hosted there. An error message box will popup that says "[Error](com.ndn.video::StreamingVideo) OPV Error #6 Timed out while trying to connect."
I've tried to edit some of the timeout settings in about:config but I don't know for sure which to modify.

    Thanks for your quick reply!
I neglected to mention I'm running FF 24.0 on a Mac 10.9 Mavericks system. There was not a Tools -> Options choice on the menu, but I did find it on the Preferences panel, on the Advanced tab (see image 1).
I made the auto-detect selection as you advised and restarted FF. After navigating to a video I once again received the error message (see image 2).
So either I did something wrong (possible but I don't think so; I double-checked the setting after the restart and it is set to auto detect) or the problem lay elsewhere.
    Anything else come to mind?

  • Clients Time-Out When Retrieving Large Files  From Our PureFTPd Server

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to get help, but didn't know where else to look. And let me begin by saying I'm not a server admin by trade, but that is the role I've fell into at a design firm. So please bear with my lack of knowledge on some of the more technical details.
We have OS X Server 10.4.11 running here with PureFTPd installed and managed through PureFTPd Manager application. It has been fairly reliable for us for the last 2-3 years once the initial setup craziness was complete.
But lately we've had 2 clients say that they've had difficulty downloading larger files from us. They get a time-out or error message on their end. They are most likely using Windows Explorer on a PC to do the transfer, which has always been the easiest method for our clients.
One client had no problem getting files up to 14MB or so. But when trying to download a certain file that was about 80MB, it would not work. I tried different things here, and she tried multiple times, but no luck. I tried zipping the file to see if that would help, but no luck.
Then another client had a similar problem today with a file that was only 25MB.
We don't send large files very often, so I'm not sure if this is a recent thing or not. It seems like we've received some large files recently though.
In PureFTPd manager, I usually leave all of the fields in the Transfers tab empty for all users. I didn't see anywhere else that would seem to impart a file-size limitation.
    • Any ideas at all?
    • If not, any other forums that I could search for help on? It looks like the developers site for PureFTPd Manager hasn't been updated in a year or two.
    Thanks in advance!

Some years back I had trouble at a customer that had a ADSL using PPPoE connection to their ISP.
Their router/modem (Speedtouch) couldn't cope with the LAN MTU when they sent files out so I had to lower it on their computers (running Panther?) ethernet interface from 1500 to 1492 (PPPoE overhead was 8 byte). The communication used to stall at about 25MB but the MTU change helped resolving that.
My guess is that the router had to fragment (split in two) all outgoing packets it recived from the LAN computers and it just couldn't cope after a while.
In your case it can be other network related things too like maybe needing traffic prioritizing, if receiving a lot of traffic from Internet and trying to send at the same time.

  • How do i prevent text messages from appearing on another phone with my same apple id

When I text my friend my wife can see my texts on her phone.  My friend is in her phone too and my wife and I share the same apple ID.  My friend is helping me with my wifes Christmas gift and I don't want her to know what we are texting about.

Either disable iMessage on your wife's phone or set it up with a unique Apple ID.

  • How can I prevent Podcast Maker from showing direct link to media files?

I'm brand-new to podcasting and to Podcast Maker for Mac, but I finally created a podcast (after 3 hours of trying to figure out how to get the thing to upload to the correct sub-directory).
My question is: When I look at my feed in Firefox, I see so-called 'media links' to all my original mp3's, as well as the links I specified to the web pages where the mp3's are embedded inside my site content.
Is there anyway to keep those media links from showing up in the feed? If people access my mp3's directly without visiting my website, it defeats the whole purpose for me creating the podcast in the first place.
    Thanks for any help!
    Brian

I think I may have to look into a redirect line in my htaccess file so that direct loads of my mp3's route through my website page.
If you do this you may find iTunes won't read the files, so I should test carefully on one file first if possible.
