How do I prevent InDesign CS4files trying to open in InDesign CC?

Subscribed to CC for a month for a project, and the FAQ assured me that I could run it alongside the existing CS4 on my Mac, it wouldn't delete or interfere with it. Well, it may not delete, but every CS4 document I have is now set to automatically open with the CC version, so if I fail to notice they'll end up in a later version of InDesign, and after my sub ends I won't even be able to open them and save back down to IDML to get them back into CS4. (I freelance, and at the moment I am really not sure of keeping up with these apps since it all went cloudy.)
I can do "open with" for that document, of course, but if I try to set documents in their information panel to "do this for all documents of this type", it just WON'T! They all pop back to CC, including the one I have the info panel open on. Which I can only assume is Adobe messing with the finder function, because that has never failed for me before.
And even when I have done a Save As and SEEN in the format drop down that it says CS4, the icon for that new document still comes up black and when I look at the info panel, lo and behold THAT new document is set to open automatically in CC.
Do I have to reset every  document (hundreds) manually in the info panel, one by one, to get them to ignore this temporary visitor to my Mac?
Or is there actually some better, faster, mass effect way to prevent this happening? I'd appreciate any help. (Or a secondhand copy of cloud-free CS6!)
thanks, Candida

If you're going to mess with the registry
- create a restore point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-restore-point
- backup the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry
I absolutely plead with all my heart - don't start changing registry entries unless you know what you're doing - or ask your IT department to take a look.
If you don't have an IT department, then source a good professional that can make these changes.
If any way unsure - then under any circumstances, - do not mess with the registry.

  • On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document created from MAC

    Hi all,
On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document in INDD format created from Mac. Error received "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by other application". I am currently using Adobe Indesign CC 9.2 Trial version.
Kindly advise how can i open this document on windows platform and allows me to edit the document.
    Thanks!
    With Rgds,
    Fiona Choy

Normally there is no problem to open any INDD opening on Windows, when created on the Mac.
But Mac user are often not aware on the naming limitations. A file name must not contain /, \, |, :
It should not contain any extended character, it is not a primary problem but will be, if something links to that file, so avoid also: ÄÖÜäöüß+&
You can use all other non A-Z a-z, 0-9 and - and  _
I personally would also recommend to avoid spaces.
This is valid for the INDD file itself but also for all linked content.

  • TS1969 What if I want iTunes to run from the other user's account, but I want to work in my account for a while, without interupting what is playing?  When I switch to my account, how can I STOP iTunes FROM TRYING TO OPEN on my side?

We like listening to music playing from wife's user account.
I want to do some work from my account.
I don't want iTunes to open on my user account.
It keeps trying to, giving me the alert beep and the "Cannot Open iTunes" alert.
How do I make it stop trying to automatically open on one account when it is already playing on the other account?
Again, I want to keep listening to what is playing through my wife's account, therefore I don't want it to open or try to open on my account.

Thanks. I messed up with my husbands iphone because I was told the wrong thing. Now everytime I sync his phone it makes it look just like the other phone I had. • How do I prevent Qicktime from attempting to open .WMV files

When I double-click on a .WMV file, QT player tries to open it and displays the errorr message that it cannot recognise it.
    I have tried the following:
'Open with...' then 'Other" and then selecting Windows Media Player, marking the box "Always open with" and opening. It plays it once in WMP and the next time QT triess to open it again.
The second thing I tried was to "get info". The box allows you to select an application for opening, but here it will not allow me to select WMP, although it is marked as an option.
How do I set QT so that it does not always try to muscle in on everything?

The settings of the Finder (your desktop) are different from the bowser plug-in.
If these are files you have downloaded (local files) and they are not encoded to be used with the Windows Media Player then the file extension is used to pick the next, most logical choice.
It seems your computer can't "remember" the settings.
Try the Disk Utility and "repair permissions".
If the file refuses to open in WMP maybe it's not a file that can be viewed in the app?

  • I am trying to open the InDesign trial app and it won't open

I downloaded the CS6 trial. I am trying to open InDesign from the Adobe Application Manager and it won't open. I am using a MacBook Pro. It has downloaded the trial and I've done the getting started tutorial but the application itself won't launch.

BernadetteGordon you will want to open InDesign from your Applications folder not the Adobe Application Manager.  You can find more information at Launch CC apps after install - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/launch-creative-cloud-apps.html.

  • Why am I getting missing plugin error in CS4 Indesign when trying to open indd or PDF files?

    Any help would be appreciated?

PDF files cannot be opened in InDesign.
InDesign files which are not able to be opened might come from a newer version, you might ask for an IDML file, but better to upgrade to the same version.

  • How can I make Mail stop trying to open?

Please, please, please somebody help find a way to stop Mac Mail from trying to open even few minutes and when I log into my account. I spend more time trying to quit Mail (which isn't easy, btw) than doing anything else on my Mac!!!! I already started Mail and set the default Mail reader to something else. But it still doesn't help! Mail keep starting and popping up windows at me constantly all day long! Is it safe to trash the application? Or will that cause problems with the OS?
    Thanks.
    RIchard

    Sounds like the Resume feature...
On your Finder Go menu > go to folder and copy and paste
    ~/Library/Saved Application State/
Then find com.apple.mail.savedState and delete that file. This file may show as an alias, if it does then right click to "show original" and delete.
(note that the User Library is hidden - one way to get there is to go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library")
Let us know if that helps.

  • How can I stop it from trying to open a window I don't recognize?

I had a virus attack last week. With the help of McAfee, everything seems to be cleaned up.
EXCEPT, Firefox keeps trying to open a new window with an unknown web address.

A possible cause is security software (firewall, anti-virus software) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • My IDML file saved in Indesign CC won't open in Indesign 6

Hello. I am on trial of Indesign CC, and exported a file to an IDML trying to open it on the school computer since they only have previous versions of Indesign.
When I try to open my file that I worked on at home in Indesign CC, it won't open in Indesign 6.
The pop up message I get is "Cannot open the file xxx.idml." Adobe Indesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."
The file IS saved as IDML
The file isn't open in another application
I don't know how I can fix this issue. Could anybody help me out? I've tried both .indd and .idml saved under CC, but it refuses to open in prior versions.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi, I too am having this issue. Did you get anywhere with resolving the problem?
    Many thanks in advance
