How do I prevent users from moving subfolders on shared folders?

I have a Snow Leopard Server sharing several folders via AFP. For now, all users have full access on everything, since we have no confidentiality issues. Unfortunately, from time to time some users inadvertently move folders around (mostly drag and drop accidents).
So, how should I set permissions so that my users can read and write data within a folder, but can not move or delete the parent folder itself?
To clarify, the structure (from the user's point of view) would be:
\Volume\Shared_Docs\AAA
\Volume\Shared_Docs\BBB
\Volume\Other_Stuff\CCC
\Volume\Other_Stuff\DDD
I would like users to have full access and rights on the content of AAA,BBB,CCC and DDD, but I do not want them to be able to move, say, AAA to Other_Stuff, or to delete it.
Thanks
Christian

You can also put the icons on the Dock, then turn on Parental Controls for his user account so that he can't accidentally change it.
First go to his account and set up the Dock with the apps, folders, or documents that he will use. Then in SystemPreferences>Accounts>ParentalControls>Finder&System uncheck 'Modify the Dock' as one of the things he can do.
To make it easier, you might then want to make the Dock larger and turn on Magnification in the Dock prefpane.

  • How do I prevent users from being able to update Firmware

I have several users (14) with iPad 2 and they rely on an in-house developed App. we have yet to test this App on iOS 5.1 and therefore want to avoid any of the users updating the iPads at all cost!
this question is in two parts:
How can I prevent users from upgrading firmware themselves short of just asking nicely?
How can I stop the iPad from automatically downloading the Upgrade when I deploy a Policy using the iPhone Configuration Utility?
    Any advice would be great!

We've been looking at the AirWatch mdm and have been told it has this capability.  Not sure if it would be justified from an economic standpoint for you, however.

  • How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folder within the artist folder.

How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folders within the artist folder and itunes moves the track/s whenever i try and load selected music to my ipod/iphone. I've tried to find some sort of preference to prevent this, but no joy? What am I missing?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • How do I prevent users from caching their sign in credentials on OWA page

I am using Forms based authentication and want to prevent users from caching their credentials on the OWA page.
    Is there an easy way?

    Hi,
Forms-based authentication enables a sign-in page for Outlook Web App that uses a cookie to store a user's encrypted sign-in credentials in the Internet browser. So this authentication method will force to cache their credentials in the Internet
browser for some time. The workaround is what Willard Martin suggested.

  • When I drag a link into a neighboring tab, how do I prevent Firefox from moving me into the new url?

When I drag a link from tab #1 into tab #2, (Firefox 3.6.6) my browser window automatically shifts to tab #2. I've noticed that dragging into the lower portion of neighboring tabs is supposed to prevent this, but it's hit-or-miss. How do I kill this "feature" so that I can simply drag and drop while staying on the original page?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Several versions ago.

    No, you can't avoid that.
The purpose is that you can drag text or a link from one tab to a text area in another tab and to achieve that the tab must be opened and focused.

  • How do I prevent users from returning to previous pages in a PDF with fill-in-forms?

I am creating a presentation in Adobe Acrobat Pro and there is a test at the end. I do not want users returning to previous pages to find answers. How do I do this?

It can be done with a script, but it's not really a good way of doing it... The user can always close the file, re-open it and see the answers. They can also disable JavaScript and then do whatever they want. I suggest you think of another way of setting this up.

  • How to do prevent users from skipping slides?

Hi, I’m an Adobe Captivate noob, so I’d really appreciate some help.
I want to lock the user’s navigation option, in such a way that if the user hasn’t finished a slide yet, he or she will not be able to proceed to the next slide or to other slides in the project. How do I do this? Is this even possible? If yes, what are my options?
    I’m using Adobe Captivate 4.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
Why should you be ignored? We all once were 'rookies' and this forum with his fine moderator, Captiv8r. Experienced users have helped me a lot when I was starting with Captivate
If you only deactivate the Next button in the playbar, wouldn't that achieve your goal? But of course, the user could just drag the slider to skip in that case.  If you want complete control, you will have to create your own navigation on the slides I think. Add a Back and an Next button, but set the Next button on the timeline of the slide very late on that slide. Just tried this: slide has a duration of 3sec. I created a Next button, with Success action 'Go to next slide' and changed the Timing settings:
    appear after 2.9sec
    duration = 0.1sec
    pause after 0.1sec
The button will appear when the playhead reaches almost the end of the slide and will have this slide paused until the user clicks.
You will need a Back button with more default settings.

PS: sorry, had to look for your version. You can easily copy this button, the select all the slides in the filmstrip and paste it on all. The timing and the success action will be the same on all slides.

  • How do I prevent users from logging into my machine in single user mode?

I established an standard accounts for my family.  My son figured out that if he logs into the machine in Single User mode that he logs in as the root user.  He then proceeded to create another user with administrative privileges and change his account to administrator then delete the other account.  Funny thing about this is that as much as OS X is secure from outside threats a simple command-s gets you right into the very heart of the machine......

You can set a firmware password. The firmware password only allows you to start up in normal mode, so if you try to start in single-mode user or safe mode, your Mac will ask you for a password.
The process to turn it on depends on the OS X version you have. Open  > About this Mac, check the Mac OS X version and follow the steps depending on your OS X version.
If you have 10.7 or 10.8:
    1. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up.
    2. After starting up into OS X Utilities, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Firmware Password Utility, and enable the firmware password.
    3. Restart the Mac.
If you have 10.6 or older:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your Mac is starting up.
    2. Choose your language, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Firmware Password Utility, and enable the firmware password.
    3. Restart the Mac.
Also, this will protect your Mac against thieves because they won't be able to erase the hard drive without knowing the firmware password. Don't forget the password, because only Apple can reset it if you don't know this password

  • How to prevent users from saving and emailing intranet documents externally

Someone in our company needs to upload a pdf to our sharepoint intranet site for internal-only use. How can I prevent users from downloading it and emailing it externally?
I mean, a user could screenshot it I guess, but I need to give management a due diligence answer.

You would need to look into a reverse proxy/firewall that had the ability to block access based on content. This isn't something you can accomplish out of the box with SharePoint (even with AD RMS).

  • Prevent user from deleting rows from all tables in his own schema

    Hi,
How can I prevent user from deleting rows in all tables in his own schema.
I want the user to not able to delete rows from any existing or new tables that might be added in the future.
The user does not have the "DELETE ANY TABLE" system privilege.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

Nowadays, I'd also avoid triggers (if possible).
Sometimes, when I daydream, I'm rewriting a few applications that I've contributed to as a newbie, and I'm very ashamed of it nowadays.
From what I've experienced, in retrospective, the emphasis on teaching 'Oracle stuff' has been lying far too much on PL/SQL row-by-row oriented processing instead of letting Oracle 'crunch' sets at once.
Most of my debugging hours ended up in discovering one or more database triggers 'doing stuff automagically'.
    Another nice blogpost: http://rwijk.blogspot.com/2007/09/database-triggers-are-evil.html
    Regarding OP's question:
I would just rethink/reconsider this requirement completely.
Correctly implementing privileges and roles seems the best way to go, yes.
    Triggers? Nah...
pre-post-edit, noticed thread got updated just before posting
Don't know what you mean with 'namedropping', but I think it's legitimate to point other readers to interesting Oracle related opinions/articles that do have a technical background and lots of interesting examples.
post dreaded OTN outage edit (from here)
Again: I would just rethink/reconsider this requirement completely.
Both trigger/vpd are being used to hide a design flaw here.

  • Prevent user from navigating to a specific slide

How can I prevent user from navigating to a specific slide? In my course, I’ve added two slides at the very end (one slide is a Resources page and the other slide is a glossary).
I’ve added two buttons on all of the course’s slides, which brings the user to the glossary or resources page when they click on it. This should be the only way they can access these two slides.
I don't know how I can configure the course navigation bar so that the user can't access these two slides when they advance to the end of the course. I'm essentially looking for a way to "hide" these two slides so that the user can only access them by clicking the Glossary or Resources buttons.
    Any suggestions?

You want to keep playbar? It will not be possible then because scrubbing
the progress bar can always get them to any slide. For buttons it could be
done,  easiest way is with custom navigation buttons but first have to know
    about that.

  • How to prevent users from creating transactional problems?

    Dear Sirs...
Using JDeveloper 10.1.2 and ADF UIX technology. If i created a web application that contains many pages. Assume the application contains pages A,B,C,D.
The end user should access the pages A then B then C then D to get the transaction executed and commited correctly.
    the problem is:
1- if a user navigates from A to B to C then he press the Back button to A then he commits the transaction, the data would be stored in correctly.
2- if page C requires some preparations in page B (initalization of session variables) and the user enters page A then he changes the URL to C, then this would cause inproper execution of application and so the data would be stored incorrectly.
so how can i prevent the user from pressing the back button of the browser (which i do not think is possible) or how can i prevent him from making any errors by inproper page navigation?
thanks for any help in advance and best regards

I really don't know if this is the correct way of doing it, but we prevent navigation directly to any page within our application if the HTTP Referer header is null. If it's null, we redirect to a page that says the user should use the navigation buttons provided and not enter the page via bookmarks, history, or direct navigation via a typed in URL.

  • How can SAP be configured to prevent users from consuming locks?

How can SAP be configured to prevent users from consuming locks?
The issue is that we want to prevent users to use upto maximum locks and so that we will not get lock table overflow issue. I know that we can assign parameter "enque/table_size" a good amount of value. But it is not for any specific user.
Also want to alert in CCMS if any user reaches to its maximum speficified limit of locks.
    Thanks
    Gopesh

You cannot set a limit of locks per user. There are two ways to reduce/control the number of locks:
    - change fewer records within one transaction
    - cover more records with one lock using wildcards
Basically it is an application / development issue.

  • How to prevent user from creating jobs

    Hi,
we need to prevent user from creating jobs on a dev enviorement. It's a 10.2.0.4 database standard on linux 64bits.
Their schema has only connect and resource roles. Is there a way to prevent them from creating jobs? In 11g it's the CREATE JOB permission, but in 10g i'm not sure how can i do this.
    Thanks for any ideas!

On 10g it's probably the CREATE JOB as well.

    Alternatively you could:
    alter system set job_queue_processes=0
