How Do I Preview QT Mpeg4 Video in Windows Explorer?

I have tried everything I can to try to get QuickTime videos to be viewed at thumbnails in Windows Explorer, but only Windows AVI and DIVX videos will be previewed as thumbnails.
I tried these things:
1. Installed QuickTime 7.6.2.14.0 updated this week
2. Installed the K-Lite Codec Pack Basic
and selected to enable thumbnail previews for all video types
http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm
3. Searched the web for ideas.
I even tried this command: regsvr32 shmedia.dll
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-enable-or-disable-media-and-vide o-thumbnail-preview-in-windows-xp/
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-turn-off-image-preview-thumbnail -and-disable-windows-picture-and-fax-viewer-in-windows-xp/
4. Tried rebooting several times.
5. Looked through ''Folder Options'' and reset to defaults.
6. I tried installing this freeware that enables FLV (flash) videos to be previewed in Windows Explorer hoping it would "kick start" whatever the problem is.
http://www.swf-kit.com/swfpreview.html
7. I tried looking for "Web View" under Folder Options to enable it, but
it is nowhere to be found under Windows XP SP3.
8. I tried re-saving the MPEG4 (mp4 extension) as a QuickTime Movie and then exporting the video "for the web" in the three ipod/iphone/Desktop formats and that did not work either. They do not get previewed under Thumbnail view.
I am at a loss what else to try.
Thanks for any suggestion.

Here is how I resolved this problem and now ALL video files show thumbnail previews inside Windows Explorer.
1. I uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack
2. I rebooted Windows XP (SP3)
3. I installed the XVID codec version 1.2.1 from http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html
4. I rebooted Windows XP
5. I installed the K-Lite codec pack (basic edition)
6. Since I already had XVID and DIVX (from Divx.com) installed,
I unchecked XVID and DIVX under the DirectShow Video Decoding Filters.
7. I activated H264 and chose "ffdshow" instead of "(use system default)"
8. I created file associations for use with Windows Media Player, allowing the defaults to be selected automatically.
9. I left QuickTime (mov) unchecked for the file associations.
10. I turned on thumbnail generation for all file types.
I finished installing K-Lite Basic and then rebooted Windows XP.
When I opened "My Videos" Folder I saw video thumbnails of all my Mpeg4 QuickTime movies.

  • Transferring multiple videos by windows explorer. Error code 0x80030001

Phoostream is a great feature. Transferring photos have never been so easy. However, I do have a qualm regarding the service and that is that it does not sync videos! Therefore, I still have to go back to the arduous processes of plugging it into my computer and selecting the videos to be transferred to my computer. However, it wasn't as easy as I had expected. Windows import feature imports both photo and videos and I can ONLY import new media. Old media is not imported so that means that videos that I synced that may have been deleted are not imported through windows explorer.l, and I cannot get it to transfer anymore. I tried copy and pasting multiple videos from the windows explorer but it prompted me the error code 0x80030001 and it cannot be transferred. I have to transfer them individually. Anyone has a reliable and easy way to get my videos to transfer from iPhone to PC?

yeah! sure windows problem... neither the location nor the folder path is given in default industry standards... by APPLE DEVICE
But if I need my latest taken picture from an apple phone... one can see over more than 30 directories random named like 845OJOX or 900DZDMI ???
In those random named directories lies apples 'closed coding' following faulthy tagging and resulting in different and random again batches of photos taken.
If I do a search in windows I can find all the pictures on this apple phone and even better i'm in control to sort the way i like!
Unfortunately the apple 'faulthy tagging method' makes it impossible to communicate with any other divice about accessing...
This is a simple poor show of apple's limited object oriented filing...
The same i had from pictures taken of a holliday where i did change my phone to local time and my wife's phone not and the seperate camera had also home settings... when i imported those all together after holliday via a program called i-tunes I had to buy 3 different apps and store all these holliday pictures(8gig) seperate (problem since 16gig should be available on apples device; i had only 9gig freed by eliminating all apps possible... and needed 24gig total for apps photo database) in all the overpriced purchased apps, to finaly show those pictures time synchronized to the holliday !
How hard it can be to sort files as the user needs????
DRAMATIC POOR APPLE PERFORMANCE (i thought apple was so good with pictures and so..)
On my pc I also did import the holliday pictures from these three devices and sorted those within minutes(!!!) right to holliday time sync...
Anyway i found also a time consuming way to copy latest taken pictures in random apple maps
(i wish to select a specific time batch and drag these to new map on pc (no apple pc))
look in all the random named apple device maps and check if there is a picture belonging to the batch you need and drag these to the new map...
Something what could take from any other phone some milisecs... takes with apple devices 2 days time !!!!
Best way for taking photo's you need later on other devices than apple... take the photo's on a non apple device and save extra holliday time!

  • Imported iphone videos crash windows explorer

Hi, I have imported 10 short video clips from my iphone to my windows 8 laptop using the usb data cable. The transfer or import works fine however when I open the folder containing the clips and hover the mouse pointer over one of the video clip icons, windows explorer immediately closes. No error message, no warning, just immediate closure.
It appears to be a problem relating to the imported iphone clips as non of my other video clips have this error, just the ones I've just imported.
This occurs using various media players, WMP, VCL etc.
Having read a few thread on help forums it would seem this is something linked to thumbnail viewing but I've not got a clue how to sort this.
    Thanks in advance

  • IPhone .mov videos crash windows explorer

I use OneDrive on my iPhone 5s to back up my photos and videos. When I try to view the videos on my Dell XPS Windows 8.1 machine, I run into trouble.
When I use Windows Live Photo Gallery, it crashes whenever I try to view one of the videos. If I open the camera roll folder in windows explorer it crashes when creating the thumbnails. I also tried using the modern UI photo viewer. It crashes as well when
opening the thumbnails. I tried using VLC. It does not play them either. There seems to be quite a few other people experiencing this issue.
I tried uninstalling some updates as mentioned here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7ca111ff-8978-4794-945c-5f36edb91786/videos-imported-from-iphone-4s-crashing-explorer-media-player-quicktime?forum=w8itproappcompat and here:

  • No preview, thumbnails, or search in Windows Explorer 64 bit Vista

No preview in Windows Explorer for 64-bit Vista... is this supposed to be fixed in 8.1.2? Also, can't perform Windows Searches against the contents of PDF files, and the majority of PDF thumbnails are not showing up in Explorer. Not interested in using Tim Heuer/Foxit because it crashes frequently and doesn't deal with searches or thumbnails.
I assume all these problems are related to 64-bit--when can we expect a fix?

There is no fix - the pdfshell driver doesn't support x64 Windows.

  • How do I convert an mpeg4 video to import to fcp

I ripped a home video from a dvd to my desktop using handbrake. It ripped it to mpeg4. I have tried using quicktime to convert it to h.264 and avi. but niether will open in fcp after I convert them, (not to mention the file size is huge! What do I need to do? Thanks!

handbrake is generally used by pirates for ripping protected content from commercial DVD's
if yours is a home movie then its likely not copy protected right? in which case download and use the free MPEG Streamclip application to convert the DVD directly to an editable Quicktime format

  • How do I change position of video floating window in IDCS5 PDF export?

I have created an interactive document in InDesign CS5 (for Mac) that includes some movies. The page size is 1280 x 800 and the H264.mov files are 960 x 540 and 800x600. I place the movie in the center of the page at 100% size (without resizing either the movie object or the frame). The poster is set to None to keep it blank. In the PDF options, the Play Video in Floating Window box is checked, with the size set to 1x and the Position is set to Center by default but it is grayed out, with no option to change it.
When I export the document to PDF (Interactive) with both View and Layout set to Default and Buttons and Media set to Include All, the resulting PDF file opens the movie window in the upper right corner of the PDF document window. It does this whether viewing in Acrobat X Pro (10.1.2) or Acrobat Reader (9.5.0). I've tried opening the file on other computers and have the same issue. I've also created the same document in IDCS5.5 with the same outcome.
I'd like the movie to open in the center of the PDF document window. I've made other documents where it does this, but for the life of me can't figure out what I'm doing differently to cause the floating movie window to open in the upper right corner of the PDF document.
Any insight you could provide would be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks for your reply, Steve. I, too, believe there is a bug, but it's not in InDesign CS5, as I mentioned in my post, I was able to replicate the problem by opening the file in CS5.5 and exporting it to an interactive PDF. The movie again opens in the upper right corner.
However, if I create a NEW page in the document and place the same movie. it opens in the PDF reader centered in the page. I guess I could recreate the document if this is the only fix, but I thought that I may be doing something wrong, which apparently is not the case.

"If you have placed the video in InDesign in it's own frame, should you not leave this box unchecked?"
Rik, I didn't actually place the movie into a new frame. What I meant to say was that once the movie was placed into the document, I did not resize it. I found that if I don't have the PDF viewer open the movie in a flaoting window, the movie quality suffers if the PDF viewer opens in a larger size than the original InDesign page size (which can happen depending on how the user's PDF viewer is configured). However, the movie plays and views perfectly if it is in a floating window.

  • How to stop preview opening pictures in same window?

I know that when you open two or more pictures at the same time, preview opens them in the same window.
However, before today, when I double-clicked on one picture, it would open in preview. Then when I opened a second picture, it would open in a new preview window so I could arrange the pictures side-by-side. Now when I open a second picture, it brings it up as another side 'tab' in the window of the first picture.
I discovered that if I right-click on the tab picture, I can select "open in new window" but then if I open a third picture, it closes the picture I had up (the one I removed from the original window) and replaces it with the new picture.
    Please help! Thanks.

I wish this worked for me, but it doesn't.
That preference is set clearly: "open each file in its own window", but Preview does not obey this preference.
This behavior started with Mavericks for me.
Very annoying since every time I open a file I have to go to thumbnails view, click right on the new file, and select "open in a new window".
    Very annoying and time-wasting.

  • How to upload multiple video with windows explorer view

In SharePoint 2013, i found that directly uploading videos to library will result in wrong content type for these videos. I have tried in both asset library and document library which use video content type. When i upload video using explorer view, these
videos are configured to use "document" or "audio"content type. Without "video" content type, i can't watch the video using browser such as Chrome. Is there any way to upload multiple videos to SharePoint 2013 library using "video"
content type? Otherwise we need to upload them one by one.

When using multiple upload, the Default document type for the library is used. If you create a video library that only has the Video content type installed and set to default, then the videos will have this content type applied.
    Paul.

  • How do I view an FTP site in Windows Explorer for drag and drop file upload in Firefox?

In Internet Explorer you have the drop-down menu option called '''"Page"''' (located below the address bar, on the right-hand side). In the options listed you can''''' "Open FTP side in Windows Explorer"'''''.
I cannot seem to locate a similar option within Firefox 4.0.

  • Viewing Ipod Video thru Windows Explorer

Hi I seem to be able to do everything with the Ipod except use it as a mass storage device. I can view in iTunes etc but can't see it as a storage device in Window Explorer or My Computer.
However when I check device manager it recognises it as a storage volume. Any ideas?

Hi I managed to get this all going by changing the drive letter in the computer disk manager and then by restarting the computer with the IPOD attached to the USB port. For good measure I also pulled out all other USB connection on the laptop. So one of the three works....

  • How would I sync MPEG4 videos to the iPad

How would I sync MPEG4 videos to the iPad

As long as they meet the iPad's supported video formats then you should be able to sync them via iTunes. From http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/ :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
If you can't get them into iTunes then you can use something like Handbrake to convert them into a supported format. If you can get them into iTunes but they then won't sync to the iPad then try Advanced > Create iPad Version in iTunes and then try syncing that version.

How do you convert the audio from a mpeg4 video file to mp3 format?

Probably the easiest way to do this is to download a free media convertor. Most will be able to convert video into audio files.
