How can I print a selection in Firefox 11 without it wasting paper and printing blank space in place of the non-selected material?

In Firefox 10 and before, I could select a small portion of a web page and it would print the selected portion on a single page. In Firefox 11, it prints blank space for the portion above my selection before printing my selection. This blank space could span several pages, and my printer prints those several blank pages with only headers and footers.

Still happens with Firefox 12. I wish they'd just fix it, the way it used to be in Firefox 10, without the complicated workaround suggested above.

I know I can copy and paste the text into a Text Edit document, but I'm looking for a quicker way to print just that selected text without leaving Mail.

Create an Automator action that gets the selected text and automatically creates the TextEdit document and prints:
To make the Service, create a New Automator workflow and select Service as the type.
Set it to receive selected text in any application.
Drag in a New TextEdit Document action
Drag in a Run Applescript Action.
Set the applescript to this:
on run {input, parameters}
          tell application "TextEdit"
print document of front window
close document of front window without saving
quit
          end tell
          return input
end run
Save it as something like Print Selected Text. Then, you can select text, ctrl-click on it, then select Print Selected Text from the Services submenu of the contextual menu.

One way would be to copy and paste into a text document. Another would be to do a screen shot (hold command shift and press 4, then drag across the area you want to capture and print it). Another would be to start a reply to the email or forward, then delete what you don't want and print it.

Printer-specific options only on one Mac

I've got a MacBook and a MacBook Pro, both running 10.5.1, and a Canon MP530 that's shared from an iBook running 10.4.11.
On the MacBook Pro, the print dialog includes a number of printer-specific options in the pop-up menu-- "Quality & Media", "Color Options", etc. On the MacBook I get only generic options-- "Layout" through "Scheduler", but nothing specific to the printer.
I can't find any differences in the printer setup between the two Intel Macs. I tried deleting the printer from the MacBook's printer setup and adding it again, but that had no effect.
Both of the Intel Macs show the correct print driver selected when I look up the printer in System Preferences.
I also downloaded Canon's latest drivers and installed them on the MacBook, but that didn't make any difference.
Anyone have an idea why I get such different options on one Mac than I do on the other?

This may sound ridiculous, but make sure the Canon is designated as the default printer....I had the same issue with a Cannon MP600....
When I made it the default printer, I got all the options back.
Go figure...

How do I print or export only selected cells in Numbers?

Does anyone know how to do this in Numbers? I have been trying to do this for well over an hour...... I have looked at other posters' questions first, all the way back to 2008 in fact. The closest I have seen to an answer (and it is a workaround, not a true answer) is copy the selected cells into a new sheet. I have been using software spreadsheets (Lotus 123 and later Excel) going back to the mid-1980's. I cannot remember the last time I could not do this.
Friends, I do realize that many of the workarounds would have taken far less time than what I have invested, please do not feel the need to point that out. I am heading for a workaround right now as I have run out of time to devote to this task. Also, please do not suggest that I should "capture" the data by copying a screen shot to the clipboard or have it dump a .png on my desktop. Most of us here should know how to do that by now but that does not address the underlying issue of how to provide only a select piece of a spreadsheet to a 3rd party in a professional looking format. Well, off to copy and paste........

Update (15 min later):
Boy, I hope one of you out there knows the solution to this. Copy and paste the selected area does not work either. You lose (this was an "Oh, duh!" sort of moment BTW) any figures populated by calculations not in the selection area.
Need to go eat, will try to feed the values in the new table from the same calculations in the first table. I can do that easily in Excel, I just have not tried it yet in Numbers. I am optomistic that it will work.

I made a test which gave a funny result.
Given a Numbers document with a chart.
I selected the chart, the title and the legends
then I grouped these objects.
Select all
copy
run the script
I pasted in the sheet to be able to take a screenshot.
It's a bit inconsistent.
Text values are passed when they are in cells
They are passed when they are used as value labels in the chart
but they aren't passed when they are chart's title or legend's components.
Funny behavior, the graphic symbols are moved in the process to the location where they would be if the text components were nil strings.
No comment upon a table's title which can't be selected with the table itself.

How can I print black ink only when in automatic two-sided mode for Officejet 6500?

When I set the printer to automatically print on two sides, it only allows color or high quality grayscale as print color options. If I print on only one side, then I have a third option for black ink only. Does anyone know how to get black ink only while getting two sided printing automatically?

Sorry, this is not an option. When printing the front page of a duplexed page the black is underprinted with color to make the print "set" and dry faster. As a result "black only" is not an option when printing automatically duplexed pages.

If you set up a JFileChooser dialog you can set the setMultiSelectionEnabled to true then the JFileChooser returns an array of files.
eg.
File files[];
JFilechooser chooser new JFileChooser();

I am doing CD update. I am using a component called "JFileChooser". I use this component to let user choose a Hard Drive or Floopy. When I try this component, and if I choose a hard drive and a folder/file, it works. If I only choose hard drive, it will return "My Documents"??? I cann't get hard drive. Easiest (and maybe most portable) way is to have a specific file in your root directory of the CDROM. You could use java.io.File.listRoots() to get all drives and then pick the one that has your file.
This will enable the user to copy the CDROM to a hard drive (easier for testing also) or mount a remote CDROM.
