How do I print from a Windows7 PC to an already connected USB printer on an Airport Extreme?

I currently have an Airport Extreme set up to serve my house, with a printer plugged into the USB port on the Airport.  I have since bought a Windows7 Laptp for work and I want to print to he existing printer.  How do I do this?  My existing Powerbook works just fine.

Install the Bonjour Printer Wizard:

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you have a Mac running OS X, try AirPrint Activator.
    http://netputing.com/airprintactivator/airprint-activator-v2-0/
    It's "donation-ware."
Free to download and try. If it works and you like it, the developers do appreciate a donation, but the app continues to function, even without a donation.

How can I print from the iPad 2 using an Epson Artisan 810 printer.

You said HP in your post title and Epson in your body text, but I think it is actually an Epson Artisan 810.
If that's right, then the free Epson iPrint app should work for you - it lists your printer as one that it supports: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epson-iprint/id326876192?mt=8

How do I set up to print from my iPad directly to a "wi-fi direct" printer WITHOUT going through my household wi-fi network/modem? I want to get rid of my household internet service/modem and only use my iPad, but need to be able to print. Please help! Thank you!

Depending on the printer, you may be able to connect/print by creating an ad-hoc (Wi-Fi direct with no router) connection. Check with your printer manufacturer to see if this is supported.
There's a ton of info out there. You could google "ipad print ad-hoc" for some useful info. But the number one thing for you right now is to verify that your printer model supports an ad-hoc connection.

How can I print from my ipad air without buying a new "air print" compatable printer? I currently have a HP Photosmart plus B210. Can I make that work?

Although you have posted in a Mavericks forum, implying that you have a Mac computer, your profile doesn't say that you have one. Printer Pro requires the printer to be connected to a Mac.

AirPrint finds any air print enabled printers on your wifi network, and won't find any printers that are not.  So if you print from, say, safari, and it finds that printer, then that is your printer.   It may have a different name than you were expecting.
Turn the printer off, and see if the print job still sees the printer.  That will confirm that the one it sees is yours.
What happens when you send the print job?
If you are sharing a wifi network with others, and one of them has a AirPrint printer on the network, you will see that one.  There is not way to have it forget one, so you will need to know your printer from the other printer, and select the right one.

  • Shared printer from a pc does not show up on my printer list.

I have a macbook air and the shared printer from a pc does not show up on my printer list.  I know it's available on the network as I have a another pc that has access to it.  The Mac did find it at one time but it has since disappeared.  Appreciate help.

  • I have a HP Laserjet P1102w printer hooked up to the USB port of my Airport Extreme. I'm able to print to the printer wirelessly from my MacBook Pro. My iPad (2nd gen) can't find the printer. What do I need to do?

My iPad is on the same network as the Airport Extreme. The HP printer is on the list of Airprint printers but I'm not using it as a wireless printer, per se, as it's hooked up to the USB port on the Airport Extreme.
I installed the HP ePrint app on my iPad. Unfortunately, the app could not find the printer either.
As mentioned earlier, I'm able to print wirelessly to the HP printer via my MacBook Pro.

    ApplePearApple wrote:
Since I'm able to print to the HP printer from my MacBook Pro using this configuration, shouldn't I be able to print to the printer from my iPad, especially when all of the devices are on/using the same network?
Not necessarily. AirPrint uses a protocol separate from the communication protocol used for the Extreme's USB port. The HP printer may disable AirPrint when its USB port connected to a valid device, which is my reason for recommending you use it wirelessly.
    From AirPrint Basics:
AirPrint printers connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported.
AirPrint printers connected by Ethernet are supported in OS X.
You may get more competent assistance from HP. See this HP support forum topic: iPhone & iPad can't Airprint to p1102w LaserJet
HP's Mac support has always been miserable though. I have been much happier since I abandoned HP and started buying Brother printers. They just work.

Hi....is it possible to print from iPad to a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 printer?  Thanks for any help!

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 is not an AirPrint printer, if that is what you're asking. HP has proprietary apps that may be suitable for your needs.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
These options enable you to use any printer available to your Mac, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device.

  • Printing from a Mac with OS X Mavericks to a printer on Windows Network

I am having trouble printing to a espon WP4530 that is connected via USB to a windows PC running XP on a wireless network
I see the printer - to add it over the wireless network (Add Printer - under the windows tab), but nothing prints when I select it.
I did connect the printer directly to the MAC and downloaded all the epson drivers and was able to print ok.
But when I go back to the network it does not print.

This solution worked for me using a samsung 1640 printer on a XP computer networked.
    In Windows XP Pro:
    1. Add some Windows components that are not added by default.
              Start Control Panel
              Select Add or Remove Programs
              Select Add/Remove Windows Components
Check Other Network File and Print Services
                        - may require access to XP Pro Install CD (need lpdsvc.dll file)
    2. Verify installation of additional components
Start Services and find TCP/IP Print Server
                        - make sure it is started, then right click and select Properties
                        - change Startup type: from Manual to Automatic
                        - while in Services, make sure IPSEC, Print Spooler, and RPC are started with Startup Type of Automatic (these are dependencies)
    3. Configure Firewall (necessary)
Go back to Control Panel and select Network and Internet Connections
              Select Windows Firewall
Click Exceptions Tab and check File and Print Sharing if not checked
Click Add Port... (most likely LPD port is not in your exception)
                        - Enter the following...
                        - Name: Line Printer Daemon
                        - Port Number: 515
                        - Leave TCP selected then press OK
                        - You can optionally click on scope and select My Network (subnet) only
Windows XP shared printer should now be ready for LPD.

  • Printing from a macbook pro to an HP psc 2355 printer

I need helping printing from a macbook pro to an hp psc 2355 printer. The printer is connected to a pc which runs Windows Vista. The pc is connected to a wireless router (so the PC has to be on to print). Hope this is simple!

You could start by resetting your printing system and then see if the computer sees the printer. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
Is your wireless network protected by a password? Does it have a name?
I have a wireless HP AIO that I connect thru my wireless router. In other words the wireless router is the hub for the printer so the three notebooks and iTouch can print to it from anywhere in the area.

  • Can i print from my ipad to a kodak hero 5.1 printer which is not an airprinter?

can i print from my ipad to a kodak hero 5.1 printer which is not an airprinter?

If the printer has WiFi, Kodak has an app in the iTunes Store that allows printing to at least some of their WiFi-equipped printers. Third-party printing apps such as PrintCentral are also available. All such apps have limitations, so check them out thoroughly before you pay for any such app.
For other printers, you can route the printing through your computer. If you have a Mac, Printopia would be worth a look. Fingerprint is another option that is available for both Mac OS X and Windows system. You could also consider an AirPrint-capable print server. Lantronix makes a couple of models, including one that supports a USB printer:

By the way, you originally posted in the forum for asking questions about the Communities themselves. There are forums specifically for Apple products, including the iPad, and normally you'll get the quickest and most applicable responses if you post there.
