How do I print from iPhone using Airport Express to a regular printer over enet

I am trying to figure out how to print from my iPhone or iPad to a regular printer that is on my wired ethernet network. I purchased Airport Express and my iPhone recognizes the Airport Express. I connected the USB port to the USB port on printer. The printer recognizes the Airport Express. But my iPhone does not recognize the printer. Any ideas?

See this article about AirPrint: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
Note the next-to-last bullet in "Notes" near the bottom:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
I do not believe you can use AirPrint to print to a wired printer, period.  Very likely, you cannot use even a printer manufacturer's app to print to such a printer.  You would need a wireless printer.

  • How to setup HP LaserJet 1320 to print from Windows using Airport Express

    My situation was that I could print locally when the printer was directly plugged into the computer's USB port but when I tried to print through the Airport Express (with the printer plugged into the AEBS USB port) nothing would happen. (I could print fine from my MacBook Pro, just not from any Windows machine.)
    It seems (although I'm still not quite sure why) that the issue was with the port address created by the Bonjour for Windows wizard.
    The following worked like a charm:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1688294

    I don't think it answers the original question. PrintCentral, according to the description you are pointing to print
    s to:
    1) most wireless printers (he's got a network printer, I assume a wired one)
    Works just fine on my 2 Ethernet network printers.
    2) all printers via a Mac. This option although useful looks a bit strange. If I have to have a Mac on all the time, I would use it to view stuff and print from there. No need for an iPad.
    Not sure why you would want to use this option if you want to print directly from the iPad to a printer. My wife's iPad prints to either network printer just fine when my Mac laptop is shut down.
    Looking for a solution myself... We need CUPS for iPad!
    You might want to let Apple know.

  • Why cant i print from my ipad using airport express but i can print from my mac using the express

    why cant i print from my ipad using airport express but i can print from my mac using the express

    Because your printer has to be Airprint compatible and connected to WiFi. There are applications, such as Printopia, that will allow you to print through your computer.

    Exactly my point: it's not a problem of not having the right printer, it's a matter of iOS not allowing it because Air Print is blocking it, probably because of a deal with HP.
    But, I've solved the problem so now I can print from my iMac, my Mac Air, my iPhone and my iPad. No thanks to the folks at Apple who purposely blocked that functionality.
    Can you print from your iPad directly to the printer without involving an intervening computer, yes or no.

    How to print from iphone to hp color laserjet CM1017 MFP printer

    In order to AirPrint from your iPad/iPhone, here's all you need to do:
    1. Make sure the printer and iPad/iPhone are connected to the same local network.
    2. Open something you want to print (on the iPad/iPhone).
    3. On the iPad/iPhone, tap the "Action" button (arrow curving out of a box).
    4. Tap "Print".
    If you have any issues with printing, below are some steps that should help you out!
    1. Power off the printer.
    2. Completely power off the iOS devices (hold the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until a message appears asking you to "Slide to power off". Slide across that bar, and it should completely power off).
    3. Power the printer back on.
    4. Power the iOS devices back on.
    5. Try to print again.
    Those steps usually resolve the issue. If they do not, try this additional steps:
    6. Power cycle your router (usually done by unplugging the router’s power cord, waiting 20 seconds, and plugging it back in).
    7. Make sure that the iOS devices and the printer are all connected to the same network, then try to print.
    If I have SOLVED your issue, please feel free to provide KUDOS and make sure you mark this thread as SOLUTION PROVIDED!

  • Airplay from iPhone to Airport Express - no sound?

    We have two of the new Mac Minis, one new Airport Express and 4 iPhones in the house - and we can use Airplay from both PC´s to the Airport Express hooked up to the stereo - works fine!
    And we can se the Airplaybutton on the iPhones and the name of the Airport Express - but we don´t get any sound when we push the button and it turns blue?
    We have rebooted alle the devices, made restores, reconnected - but no sound? I just don´t get it?
    Message was edited by: Joost40

    Same here:
    - iPhone 4 with iOS4.2;
    - Airport Express with latest firmware;
    - Airplay on iTunes 10.1 with Macbook Pro works fine on my home stereo equipment;
    - installation of iOS4.2 went fine;
    - rebooted already both iPhone and Airport Express;
    - Apple support told me to restore original settings on my iPhone, which I didn´t do but very much doubt would help anyway (the lady working for Apple Support didn't even know what "Airplay" was).
    I think we are facing a bug and must wait for an Airport Express (or even iOS4.2) software update.

  • Can't stream music from iPhone to airport express when connected to internet

    I have an issue with my airport express. When the unit is used solely for streaming music from my IPhone to connected stereo speakers without an Ethernet cable attached it works fine.  When I attach an Ethernet cable to the airport express and connect to the Internet on my iPhone, the airport express will no longer stream music from the iPhone. This is a recent problem, previously I was able to access the Internet on my iPhone from the airport express, whilst simultaneously streaming music from the iPhone back to the airport express.

    Do you mean Lan cable? Can this be done wirelessly from itunes to airport express without the internet connections?  I can't connect to an airport express that's not connected to the internet.

  • Sharing a Canon PIXMA MP780 printer between OS using Airport Express

    Hello.....I've been sharing a Canon PIXMA MP780 between a wired desktop PC and a wireless laptop PC. I recently got a new MacBook and want it to share the same printer. I set up my Airport Express with no problem, but my MacBook doesn't recognize the printer. I thought I just might need to update the printer drivers, but when I contacted Canon, they said this printer doesn't support networking between two different OS. Does anyone know if this is really true (we all know how often we get incorrect info from tech support types) and if it is true, has anyone found any work-arounds for this? Thank you!

    I have a similiar problem, only it is reversed. Using the mac, it took me a minute to print wirelessly. But with the pc... I've used the entire evening, and it's still not possible.

  • Streaming directly from iPhone to Airport Express would'nt be great ?

    streaming music directly from my iPhone 3GS to any Airport Express, without iTunes and without a Mac ... presuming the iPhone can access the WiFi network !
    it would be a dream go true !
    do you know an iPhone app doing that ?
    or an Apple project in that way ?
    Eric, FRANCE

    thank you "neuroanatomist", thank you "roaminggnome"
    but...
    I would like this feature for some reasons :
    1- coming home, I would like to listen to my music or audiobooks without turning on my Mac for this elementary task ;
    2- I would like to listen to an audiobook when I'm not at home, on my iPhone, and, of course go on listening from the last point when coming home ; so the AB file must be on the iPhone, for these 2 reasons ;
    3- when I'm not at home, I would be please to play my friends some music or AB, using their Airport network ;
    4- streaming from the iPhone drains its battery but really not a problem : autonomy is good and we can recharge nearly everywhere using USB ;
    5- last but not least : currently iTunes has a bug preventing normal playing of long m4b files that play correctly on the iPhone ; but this is another story !
    But my request is perhaps unrealizable for 2 reasons :
    A- a technical question : is the Airtunes technology able to run without a Mac and iTunes ? in anorther word : to witch level is Airtunes implemented in the Express device ? Or : is it possible to setup an iPhone app able to use the Airtunes technology ?
    B- I've never tried to run 2 or more instances of iTunes on the same network, but what happens if I try to stream from each one to the same Airtport Express ? How are managed multiple sources ? Consider an iPhone barging in an Airtunes network and trying to stream to an Express already in use : managable ?
    still some uncertainty ...
    any help ?
    thanks

  • No printing from XP via AirPort Express

    We're using AirPort Extreme. A Windows XP machine is connected via Ethernet cable to the AirPort, and a Mac iBook is connected wirelessly. Both machines can access the internet without any problems.
    Also connected to the AirPort (via USB cable) is a Canon PIXMA iP4200 printer. Printing from the iBook works fine, but we are unable to get the XP machine to print.
    I've downloaded and installed the most current driver from Canon's website. (The printer works fine when plugged directly into the XP machine -- it's only through the AirPort that it won't work.)
    I followed the instructions on p. 54 of the "AirPorts Networks for Windows" documentation -- creating a port with an IP of 10.0.1.1 when adding the printer. I've tried disabling the XP firewall, but that had no effect.
    The printer showed in the XP "Printers and Faxes" window. It said "Ready" (not "Offline"). When we sent something to print, the job appeared in the queue. But then it would eventually time out with a message that the printer is either busy or there's some other error.
    To complicate matters, I deleted that printer from XP's "Printers and Faxes" in one of my repeated attempts to start over. Now when I go through the process, it tells me that port 10.0.1.1 is already in use, so I can't even get it to show.
    This is XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2.
    We tried calling Canon support, but they don't support networked printers.

    Also, I'm unable to repeat them now because it fails
    at the step, "...if the IP address of the AEBS or
    Airport Express is 10.0.1.1, put "10.0.1.1" and let
    it generate "IP_10.0.1.1" as the port name."
    This no longer works because XP says that that port
    is already in use.
    At the "Up will come the "Select the Printer Port" screen" rather than create a new port, use the drop down box to select the IP_10.0.1.1 port which already exists.

  • Using airport express/extreme with network printer

    I'm kinda unsure on what exactly the airport express does. I have a network printer however it is too far from my router to connect it. Also having the router in the basement makes getting a connection three floors up a little difficult. Would I be able to use the airport express or extreme as a secondary router that can connect to my primary router and also plug my printer either via ethernet or USB? To connect is to speakers too would also be neat.

    Of the two, only the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) would provide for a connection to speakers.
    Both the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and the AXn are Internet wireless routers. Both support connecting a printer via either Ethernet or USB. Note; however, that the AirPorts can only share printers attached to their USB ports. Printers attached to their Ethernet ports would have to be Network-Ready. Meaning that they would need to provide their own means to provide sharing on the network.
    If your existing router is NOT another AirPort, then extending its range with either AirPort would, most likely, not work ... at least, not via a wireless connection. It may be possible to extend the wireless range if either AirPort could be connected back to this router by Ethernet.

  • Printing from XP to Airport Express-connected printer stopped working

    We have an HP printer hooked up to an Airport Express. We have a Windows XP machine that has been set up to print using Bonjour and the Airport, and it has been working for months. Suddenly, it is not working. Documents get to the printer queue, but then error out.
    We also have a Power Mac set up, running Tiger, that still works. We can also hook up the printer directly to the Windows PC and it prints fine. We have tried the following:
    -Recreating the printer in Windows. (The Bonjour Wizard finds the printer just fine.)
    -Reinstalling Bonjour 1.04
    -Restarting Windows and the printer and the AE (several times)
    -Turning off the firewall
    -Printing documents from multiple applications
    -Creating a printer with a generic driver
    No matter what, the document errors out in the printer queue when we try to print wirelessly from the PC. We don't know exactly when this started, because we haven't printed anything in a while. We can't think of any changes that have been made recently, except for automatic Windows updates. Has anyone else seen this problem recently? Any suggestions?

    Excellent...great find! Had the same problem. Mac PB and two PC laptops on XP via Bonjour have been printing fine for many years through an Airport Extreme to an HP 7300 AIO printer. Then one day last week the Mac continued printing fine over wifi to Airport Extreme but both PC's (one Dell and one Compaq) stopped printing both via direct wired USB and wifi through the AE. Microsoft must have put out an update that hosed something on the XP side. Tried reinstalling drivers, deleting and rebuilding bonjour printer, resetting devices, etc. Nothing fixed it. Found this link and reconfigured the port as mentioned above to AE's IP address, RAW setting was already set, and they are now printing fine again. Thx for the help!

  • How to connect to multiple speakers using Airport Express

    Hi -- I have two AP Express modules setup and working in my household. I have no problems using either from my iBook G4.
    How do I use them both at the same time? I cannot find an appropriate way to set this up?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Since you are at 10.4.7, I'm assuming iTunes is at least 6.0.2. If not, upgrade the app via Software Update or Apple's iTunes site to the latest v 6.0.5.
    Since both units work individually, I'd say the problem lies in how the 2 units are configured. Are you using the latest 6.3 firmware for Airport express? To determine your version, download the firmware, select install. The ensuing panel will tell you the latest version for your units. Upgrade if you are using an earlier version of the firmware.
    Post back with results.

    Hi
    I use a Airport express connected to my stereo to stream music from my iMac and iPhone. It works brilliantly and seamisily from my iMac but when i try to listen to music from my iPhone it connects up but then plays the music but it keeps dropping out and you hear the music but it seams to keep loosing the connection.
    the imac and iPhone are connected to the same wifi network as the airport express. If i lay the iphone near the wifi router it still drops the signal and drops the connection to the airport express

    I have also updated the Firmware on the airport express
    any suggestions or solutions would be greatuly recieved.
    Thanks in advance
