How do i print in color in Preview

I am still trying to figure out OS 10.8.5. Seems like all the settings have been hidden and made a lot less user friendly.
Here is a frustrating one.
There used to be in the print menu from Preview a drop down with a cryptic name to it that I could never remember and under that you could tell it to print in color or in grayscale. All this functionality has apparently been removed.
I have a color document that I am sending to a color HP cp1700 printer and it will only print in grayscale. There is no setting anywhere on this computer where I would be able to tell it color or black and white.

Thank you for the Gutenprint link. Unfortunately, this did not work.
What part didn't work? The driver, or it doesn't support color, either. It is listed as supported by Gutenprint. Did you select the Gutenprint driver for your printer?
I guess this is what they call planned obselecensnce.
That printer is over a decade old. Impressive that it still turns on.
Interesting that HP continues to write Windows 7 drivers for it, but they haven't written an OS X driver for over six years. Nothing yet for Win 8.

Apple didn't make the drivers. Apple doesn't make printer drivers and has not done so since they stopped making their own printers. HP made the printer drivers for that device. Apple merely publishes HP's drivers.
OK, but still, they built the poorly made HP drivers in their OS.
Ah, no. They published the only drivers HP gave them. If they didn't publish them, then Mac users would be unable to use HP devices at all, except for those devices supported by 3rd parties such as Gutenprint and the HPIJS Project. HP is solely responsible for the state of their drivers. And it's not just Mac drivers which are bad; a lot of Windows drivers stink, too. HP simply has a problem writing drivers. For the most part they have excellent hardware, but truly terrible software.

  • How can I print without color?

How can I print without my color cartridge in my printer, I have a HP Deskjet 3510. I cant find only print in black in white in the setting on my printer.

    Hi,
Actually we call it as Grayscale. But Grayscale is a mixture of all colors. If you only wish to print Black & White only, you need to set "Black Ink only" as default. Please try:
The setup may vary from printer to printer but basically (for Windows):
    (a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
    (b) Click Set Preferences,
    (c) Click Advanced,
    (d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
    (e) Click Ok/Apply ...
    Regards.

  • How do I print without color management in CS6?

EVery time I print a test target for color profiling, I open CS4 so that I can print with no color management.  I can't figure out how to do it in CS6.  I must be missing something obvious, but I just can't find the option to print without color management anywhere in the CS6 driver.

As someone who prints Digital Negatives (there are quite a few of us out there now), the ability to print without color management is a huge liability. Why would you take that out of Photoshop and create a completely seperate application to do this? From inside photoshop, I can print with registration marks (necessary for multi-negative prints).
So now there's Lightroom to manage the locations, open up Photoshop to apply curves and then figure a way to add registration marks to the file itself, the print from another app altogether.
Even just the ability to add profiles (AdobeRGB tagged file, then print with photoshop manage color, AdobeRGB profile) works in this situation.. but for some reason.. you've decided to pick and choose which profiles we can and can't use.

  • How do I Print Accurate Color from Lightroom?

I just got my Epson 3880 2 weeks ago.  The problem I am having is getting accurate color when printing from Lightroom.  I am running a p.c. with Windows 8.1.  To eliminate my monitor as the problem, I created a series of color patches in Photoshop, printed them and read them in using the X-Rite Color Munki Photo.  Here is a list of thing I have done:

Printing from Windows Photo Viewer – Printer Manages Color
Did I miss something in the Lightroom print section?
Message was edited by: David Nestico.  Rather than just posing a list of numbers, I summarized what I thought was important.  All data is there in case someone smarter than me can make more sense of it :)

I thought my problem could be Lightroom is in ProphotoRGB color space, and my printer is Adobe1998 color space.  To test this, I changed the color space of my patches from prophoto to AdobeRGB. I checked my colors in Photoshop, and made them match the RGB number I specified.  It was interesting to note that (128,128,255) had a noticeable shift to purple.  the other colors shifted slightly.  Now I printed the test page with Lightroom managing color and the printer managing color.  Both images came out similar.
This study came about when I was printing some images, and the sky had a definite purple shift.  So, I took the image into Photoshop and converted the colorspace from prophoto to Adobe.  Printed the image, and the image came out much better.
So the question now is, do I need to convert each image I print in Photoshop, or am I doing something wrong in Lightroom?

  • How best to print a color photo in black and white

I use the Black and White adjustment on a series of colour photo's I've taken.  However when I go to print the photo's, colour still comes out in the print.  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

It might be a problem with your printer's color profile. Did you try to set the color profile in the print dialogue to "black and white" (choose: "more options" in the print panel) ?

    Hello @TexasMos ,
Thanks for getting back to me. The AirPrint driver may be selected instead of the HP driver, by the sounds of it. I would like you to see the link below to see some screen shots that will help you check which driver is selected. If you see the AirPrint driver selected, you will need to change it to the HP driver.

  • How do I print accurate colors with Photoshop CS4 and Yosemite?

I recently upgraded to OS 10.10, Yosemite. I can no longer get accurate colors printed for photos from Photoshop. I have Photoshop CS4 and I use an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer. I am able to use Photoshop for everything but printing accurately. I downloaded all recommended drivers for the printer, reloaded profiles for the printer and even tried a trial of Photoshop CC. • How do I print PDF files in preview with the added annotations?

Is there a way to print out the document with the added notes that are next to the slides?

When you add notations to a PDF document, you need to hit "save" for every page before doing anything else. If you forget to save the changes for each page, they will not re-appear. So, if you save the change, it should then print with your notations.

  • How to print red color in plain paper?

When printed on glossy papers, red color (in photo or text) looks great.
When I print on non-photo, plain papers, red color came out brownish.
I tried on premium ink jet papers, it does not print red but in brown color.
How can I print red color in plain paper?

When dealing with printing ink, R=100m+100y+0c+0k. What drives the color toward rust, maroon, and brown is the addition of c to the mix. That may be the result of the diffuse reflection of the uncoated paper surface, its absorb rate, the ink chemistry and – the light source. Since the easiest variable to test is the light source, look at that color using a source weak in blue emission, incandescent light, and watch the red shift. Remember also that the reflected color will never be as bright as paper it is printed on. Each ink film is a filter subtracting light from the paper reflection.
Shown above (with a mode change to RGB for the purpose of this display) is its version of 100 each of m+ y  and a patch with the unwanted c
