How do I properly change the server name in mountain lion server?

I need to change my server name to a FQDN, but tried this with Lion server in the past without success. I know in lion you'd use server app, but that's no longer avaiable in mountain lion server and I want to make sure I get this right the first time.

I was able to get everything working with some assistance from Apple's enterprise support. After changing the host name, the DNS was still not resolving properly and I couldn't turn on open directory so that I'd be able to start profile manager. The DNS interface is considerably different than that in previous versions of server. The network was set to manual ip with dhcp, which was pulling back an external IP. Overriding the DNS info coming in via the dhcp, setting it to localhost, resolved the issue.

How can I set up a mail alias in Mountain Lion Server?

Hi, newbie to Mountain Lion Server here.
I've set up mail for domain a.com and a virtual domain b.com
User a receives mail just fine at [email protected] and [email protected], now I wanted to receive mail for [email protected] as an alias, which I understood after reading the posts here is done by going to 'advanced options' of user a and setting b in the alias field.
But sending a mail to [email protected] bounces with a "550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table".
However sending a mail to [email protected] does work, so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Hi, it's a late response, I know, but I had same problem just now and in my searching for an answer I found your question. ...better yet, I also found the answer - simply make a user alias including the virtual domain, like for instance if you want alias c to receive mails from both a.com and b.com, you should make two aliases:
c, [email protected]
where the first alias defaults to a.com as the default domain and the second explicitly specified the virtual domain.

Mail Server problems with Mountain Lion Server

Well, I don't see a section here for Mountain Lion yet so I'll ask here. I installed Mountain Lion Server and for the most part everything is working well. I am have issues with the Mail Server though. As long as I dissable everthing but the Blacklist filter all works fine. If I enable Junk Mail or Virus filters I get this:

From doing some serching it seems to have something to do with amavisd but I don't think it is installed on my system. If it is I can't seem to find it. Should it be installed with the Server Software?
I'm really lost here so any help would be great.

How to get my Drobo FS to mount in Mountain Lion Server.app

Hello Everyone,
Thanks in advance for the help. I am struggling with getting my drobo fs connected to my AE to show up in the server.app. I want to use my drobo fs as a mass storage device for the server since the server has a small hard drive. But I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to show up when I try to start the time machine service or include a folder on the drobo in the file sharing service. Does the server.app recognize or see network drives? The drobo connects as a server to the ML server, do I need to install drobo dashboard to get the server to see it as something else? I tried to create a share with the time machine option to see if it would mount as a local drive but it only mounts as a local. I think I'm on the right track, server.app only sees local drives but is there a way to get it to see my network drobo fs? Also, can I connect the drobo to the server (forgive me if this seems confusing), my mac mini via a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter? Would a direct connect change the way the mini mounts the drobo thus enabiling server.app to see the drive as local?

Also, when the drobo is connected to the AE it is assigned an ip 10.0.1.2, I connected it to my mac mini and the mac mini to my AE via wifi and the server.app had a fit because the ip addresses changed. I was unable to get the drobo to mount. I could reset the drobo as I do not have that much information on it. I could backup the drobo and restart anew which, I think, would allow the mac mini to create an ip for the drobo.

I guess in another forum that I posted this the question is not clear.
I want the drobo which is basically a NAS to show up when I try to implement the time machine service in the server.app. I have the drobo mounted and all is working fine but when I try to implement time machine in server it only shows me my internal (local) drive and not the drobo. I am wondering if it is due to the drobo connecting to the mac as a server itself (ip address assigned). Would an adapter help me with this? Such as a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter or ethernet to USB 3.0? would that create another ethernet connection on the mac or could I get the mac to see that connection as it is a USB or thunderbolt connected drive?

I can't change the language setting in Mountain Lion

I downloaded and installed Mountain Lion. The spell checker objected to almost every word I entered. Even after updating the System Preferences to selcect US English as its first choice,, and even after I logged out, and back in again, and even after I rebooted, it still comes out wrong. For some reason it wants use Portuguese.

There are two Language settings - the "Language" Tab and the "Text" tab. Have you set the language in both tabs?
And how are your "Text" settings (the second tab) in the "Language & Text " preferences? Try to switch "Spelling" from "Automatic" to "U. S. English". This helped to get the spelling corrrect for me in Text Edit.

Try Zoom options in System Preferences > Accessibility > Show preview rectangle when zoomed out.

Was the NTP server removed from Mountain Lion Server?

I can't find the settings in the Server app or information in the documentation. Is the NTP server gone?

I think I have figured this out for Lion so I imagine it is not much different in Mountian Lion.
/etc/ntp.conf on both clients and servers has a line indicating which time server the local machine is looking at.
On our server it points to time.apple.com. On our clients it points the the FQDN of our server.
On clients and servers the ntpd daemon appears to be running by default.
Server Admin had a button to enable the local NTP server. That is the only thing I cannot see for sure from the .conf files.
Possibly this is all running by default and we can just point each machine to the appropriate server.
Any other ideas?

OK, check this one:
/Library/Preferences/System/Configuration/preferences.plist
and see if it's locked. If not, try moving that file out to the desktop. You'll need to reset a number of preferences, but that seems to be where OS X 10.8 is keeping that setting now.

How do I properly change a Mac's name?

My laptop (a MacBook with Tiger) was assigned a name when I first activated it. I am using it as an airport router (using a mobile broadband system, via a "modem" connected to the laptop to access the internet) with two iMacs. One of the iMacs has the same name as the laptop. I found I had problems with the airport network, because of the common name.
I changed the name of the laptop, using Sharing in Preferences to "Eric's Laptop". However, the name seen by the airport connection on both iMac's remains as it originally was, and I continue to have problems with the airport network.
How do I properly change the name of the laptop so its network name is, indeed, changed?

Thank you Baby Boomer, Texas Mac Man, and Neville Hillyer. I have taken those actions, now several times. They have not changed the laptop's name, _as seen_ on the AirPort drop-down on the right of my iMac menu bar, and the problem continues.
When I first bought and activated the laptop and used it for this purpose, I ran into this same problem. After hours of frustration, since the laptop was still under warranty, I called Apple Service, and a helpful and knowledgeable support technician walked me through a very different and simple process that did change the name as seen by the other computers on the AirPort network. At that time, I asked why that information was not available anywhere for Mac customers, and he did not know. I (obviously) do not remember what that process was.

   Do 5 times.

          concatenate z1 z2 z3 into z4.

SO, CAN YOU PLZ SUGGEST ME.. when ever the file name was changing in the loop.. that automatically should load into the PSA ..
