How do I properly set the networking "Workgroup" in OS 10.5

Ealier versions of OS X used to have what I believe was known as a - "Directory Access Utility" that enabled you to see, change, or assign a "Workgroup" name to a Mac on a local network. Where is this in Leopard ? I wish to provide a pre-existing Workgroup name already used by our other Macs and a Windows computer on our household LAN to the first of our Macs to get 10.5, but I can find nowhere to change the default workgroup name or even see it because Apple appears to have changed which utilities do what under this latest OS update.
Would something called "Workgroup Manager help ? Is this an Apple Utility I should download ?

Ok, the workgroup settings are in System Preferences under network.
In order to change your workgroup, you need to create a new network profile as follows, because there is a bug which prevents you changing it in the Automatic profile:
Click on the Location menu at the top, and click Edit Locations. Click the plus sign and call it what you want.
Then, click Done.
Then click on the network that you are using, such as Ethernet, Airport etc, and click advanced.
Go to the WINS tab and type in your desired workgroup name.
Then click OK, and back on the main network preference screen, click apply.
Hope that is helpful.

• How do you properly set the RAM timings?

In an effort to solve random crashes on my pc I adjusted the RAM timings. I managed to stop the crashes, but I really didn't know what I was doing.
Recently I was playing with the cpu overclock options and I started crashing again, even after I was back to normal cpu settings. I managed to get it running stable again by adjusting the RAM timings, but again it was by trial and error.
I have read a lot of forums where people who have upgraded to a GF4 on several different systems have been plagued with crashes similar to mine. Is it possible that something is out of sync between the video, cpu, and ram? Is there anything that can be adjusted on the video card? Just a thought.
Any help would be appreciated.

How do I re-set my network password?

You simply set it via the airport utility.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/21138326#21138326
If you have forgotten the password, reset the Airport by doing a short press of the reset button.. this is called soft reset.. all passwords are set to factory for 5min so you can change them till your hearts content.. then upgrade the airport.

Talk to someone who knows something about networking and/or firewalls on an appropriate forum.
Configuring your network and/or firewall is beyond the scope of this forum, which is devoted to issues using the iPhone.

• I inadvertently pressed CTRL+ another key (possibly V or B or N) and the text size of my bookmarked page was significantly reduced in size. I can't read it. How do I re-set the text size?

I mistakenly pressed CTRL + another key (possibly V or B or N or whatever), when I was reading my e-mail. The text size shrank to a size that is useless to me, but I cannot seem to get the text size re-set to normal. Indeed all of the formatting on the page has been reduced (symbols, instructions, frames etc). Existing Firefox and returning to the bookmarked page makes no difference. How do I re-set the system?

Hi,
Please try '''Ctrl''' + '''0''' (zero). Alternatively '''View''' ('''Alt''' + '''V''') > '''Zoom''' > '''Reset'''.

how do i connect to the network off my itunes? its saying theres no interenet connection even though there is

Yes and I do understand that! Thank you. There is no option to do an auto channel. Its 1-11 or 36, 40, 44 or 48. Then when it asks for a security its 40 bit WPA or 128 bit WPA. Unsure what that means? If I choose either of those Security options I have to have a certain number of characters for my password, and neither of those options fit the password that was given to me.
Any suggestions?

Hi,all!
Could you help me? How to define or set the size of the OLAP PAGE in 11gR2?

Hi there,
The size of an OLAP AW page is automatically derived from the block size of the tablespace in which it is stored (which in turn is typically derived from the db_block_size initialisation parameter)
Do you have a particular concern about this setting?
Thanks,

• How do I permanently set the zoom level? I am sick of hacing to "ctrl +" on every page!!

How do I permanently set the zoom level? I am sick of hacing to "ctrl +" on every page!! It is a HUGE waste of time. If I can't do it, then no more FF.

The Firefox [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Page+Zoom Page Zoom] feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers.
Try the Default FullZoom Level extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6965
Or the NoSquint extension:
• On start-up, Firefox always tries to connect to proxy even if I set the "network settings" to "no proxy".

On start-up, Firefox always tries to connect to a proxy even if I set the "network settings" to "no proxy". I have to manually go to "network settings" and set it to "no proxy" every time I start Firefox.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in [[Safe mode]]:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

• Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages

hello all,
we bought a Sun X3-2 and our reseller installed OL6.5 and SRS 5.4.2. When user logs in, a window occurs regularly, displaying this message.
Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages
After click on Cancel, the window re-appears then minutes after. It seems that it is related to polkit:
/usr/libexec/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
Can i stop this service? Are there any hints to tune Oracle Linux when using sunrays? users don't need to update packages because the server is managed.
thanks in advance for help,
gerard

i'm not fully agree with you, this problem arises because i'm using sunray. But you're right, i found the solution when searching on the net, not in oracle forums.
The solution is to create
.config/autostart/*.desktop
with:
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false
it seems ok, even if i have other problems, for instance, firefox and thunderbird crashing regularly, even if i'm up to date with packages (uln too).
In the past, i used to use sunrays with solaris 10, it existed a document to tune gnome when using sunrays, i don't find the same thing with oracle linux.
thanks for your reply,
gerard

when using time capsule on a PC based network, how does it appeare on the network ? like a normal shared external HDD ??? or what ?

Yes, it will show you the main directory.. so if you link in windows explorer it will be..
\\TCname\data
Or \\TCipaddress\data
Data can be whatever name the main (root) directory of the TC is called.
