How do I protect an image from being downloaded?

I want to be in a position to prevent images from being downloaded from a muse site. Is this possible?
David

Widgets are available from a couple different sources that disable right-click mouse functions on a web page. That prevents someone from right clicking an image and choosing "save image" options. Unfortunately nothing can prevent someone from grabbing a web page image using other methods, like taking screen shots or hacking the web browser's cache.
Other alternatives:
• Watermark your images using visible and/or invisible methods.
• Limit the resolution and quality levels of the images you upload.
• Bake other visual elements or user interface elements into the images, making visitor saved images either incomplete or just screwed up. They don't get a pristine image to try selling off to some stock photography company.

    When creating a slideshow in Muse, how can I protect the images from being downloaded?

    Essentially, you can't.
    If something is available online to view, it can also be downloaded and there is little you can do to actually stop it.
    There are scripts that you can add to your site to disable "right click > save image" BUT someone who really wants the image can get around this using a variety of ways, including creen caps and looking at your code to determine the source where is image is hosted on your server.
    The best that you can do it watermark the images clearly and also imbed data into the image file. It won't stop anyone taking the images, but it clearly tracks the fact that you're the copyright owner. Do take note though, that someone who understands about this, can also remove these bits of data - but your average user wouldn't either know about it, or know how to remove it. This, however is one of the best ways to 'stamp' your ownership to an image.

  • Protect child SWF from being downloaded

    Hi, I've been struggling with this for a while and i cannot
    find how to do this....
    I have a main Flex app (main.swf) that load other pieces of
    content (content.swf, content2.jpg, etc...). I want those pieces of
    contents to be accessible only by using main.swf. I've tried to put
    my content outside the web root and access it in main.swf using an
    image container with the source :
    http://www.server.com/file?content.swf&key=secret,
    but anyone can access this string and download content.swf.
    So, how can i protect content.swf from being downloaded...
    Note that i cannot embed content.swf, content2.jpg, etc... since
    there will be too many files...
    Any help would be appreciated

    I'm going to throw this out there and say, simply, that you
    can't. Just the fact that someone is viewing the content means
    that's it's already downloaded to their system, albeit buried in a
    temp folder somewhere.
    I think instead of stopping someone from downloading it, you
    could find a way to stop it from working once it's separated from
    the web server it's currently deployed on.
    Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, of course...

  • How can I prevent my images from being copied?

    This is a perennial question, but the simple answer is that you can't. It's impossible.
    Don't believe snake oil adverts for products that claim to prevent images from being copied. Once an image is displayed on a computer, there are numerous ways of copying it. "Solutions" that prevent users from right-clicking or pressing Print Screen can be disabled by turning off JavaScript in the browser; and screen grabbing software can easily make a copy of an image.
    If you want to show your photography on the web, but don't want others to steal your images, consider the following options:
    Add a watermark to your images.
    Embed copyright information in the metadata of your images.
    Save images at low resolution (72dpi is standard on the web, but useless for printing).
    The following image uses all three techniques:
    You can create a Photoshop action to watermark images. Use the File Info dialog box in Bridge CS4 to add copyright metadata to your images.

    I asked a question. Hans was kind enough to give me a solution, and for that I thank him! I have also learned a little more in the process!
    We have already established that the solution stops people right clicking on an image and saving the image (be it in Windows Explorer or not), but it has also been established that it is by no means a fool proof way of protecting images and that there are other ways of copying images from a webpage. However, it is another level of protection.
    Unfortunately, I do not want to watermark my images as I do not like looking as watermarked images myself. I also downsize my images for the web. I was just looking for another level of protection.
    Thanks for the input anyway!

  • How to keep my jar file from being downloaded?

    hi,
    problem:
    i turned a java app into an applet, put it on yahoo's server and was able to view the applet in a browser. but the html source tells where the applet's jar file is and so a user can download it. to prevent this, i put the jar file into a password protected folder. but this requires the user to enter a password before the applet is displayed.
    question:
    how can i use the jar file without protecting it with a password and keep it from being viewed or downloaded?
    this is a learning experience, the jar file simply prints the current time.

    If you want a client to run anything at all, it needs to be public. If people can't download it, their browsers can't as well.
    All you can do is run your code through an obfuscator to somewhat protect it from being copied.

  • How can I keep my images from being deleted when using Image capture. Even when I do not check the box they still get deleted.

    This happened after I updated my operating system.

    Whats with the MBP lid? Dont close it ... if you're so concerned! Just go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and set it to how you like it.

  • How to protect my jar file from being downloaded

    How can i protect my jar file from being downloaded by users by accessing it through the web site.
    Now everybody can just type the url www.mysite.com/applets/myApplet.jar
    And download it to his computer.
    I realize that anybody who really wants to download it he will get it anyway, but I want to make it harder.
    thanks in advance

    Your browser has to download the jar file if it's going to run the applet. That's applets work. The browser downloads the classes and then runs them locally.
    I suppose if you wanted to make something to make it difficult for users to explicitly download the jar, you could set some kind of permission flag when the HTML is page is rendered, and then unset it some amount of time (10 seconds?) later, and then only let the user download the jar when the flag is set. But this would be fragile and irritating and unhelpful. It would probably break more than you'd like and not prevent download very much (it wouldn't take long to figure out what was happening), and besides nobody is ever going to try to steal your code.

  • How to "protect" a square from being erased in a Java Paint application?

    Hi. I have created a paint program in Java (something like MS Paint) and I have a problem.
    In order to show the current colour the user is using I have drawn a square on the screen.
    But when I select the eraser tool and try to erase the square, it can be erased and I dont want that.
    Is there any way I can "protect" the square from being erased by the eraser tool?
    The eraser tool basically draws white rectangles when the mouse is dragged.
    Thanks

    Hi. This is the code I am using. Hope this helps.
           Button fill_rect_btn = new Button(" Fill Rect");  //create buttons
           Button draw_rect_btn = new Button(" Draw Rect");
           Button eraser_btn = new Button("Eraser");
           eraser_btn.addActionListener(this);       //add actions listener
           eraser_btn.addMouseMotionListener(this);  //and MouseMotionListener
           g.setColor(Color.yellow);  //draw the yellow rect
           g.fillRect(0,0,145,108);   //behind the buttons
           else if(e.getSource()==eraser_btn)
              {shape=7;}  //test if button has been clicked
            public void mouseDragged(java.awt.event.MouseEvent mouseEvent)
                 if(shape==7)
                     g.setColor(Color.white);
                     g.fillRect(xvalue, yvalue, 10 , 20  //draw rectangles
                     g.setColor(Color.black);

  • How do I get an image from Picasa and transfer it to photoshop to work on it.?

    how do I obtain an image from picasa and bring it to ps to work on it?

    Are you using a Windows system, and do you have File Explore set to show extensions?  I am wondering if the file name might look like:
    'Starbirds Picture.jpg.tiff'  ?
    The fact that you say the image looks different after reducing its bit depth makes me think you are right about it being 32 bit, but as Chris said, it can't be a JPG.
    Your computer monitor is not capable of displaying the full tonal range of a 32bit image produced by an HDR program like Photomatix or Photoshop, so it has to make compromises.  You have to chose what process to use to reduce its bit depth to give it the look you are after.  I prefer Photomatix for HDR.  If you install a trial version and open your 32 bit image in it, you can then chose one of the options to convert it to 16 or 8 bit.  These might be Tone Mapping, Exposure Fusion, or Tone Compression.   Tone Mapping is the option that produces the typical HDR look.
    But you are using Photoshop.  I haven't noticed what version you are using, but Google Photoshop (your version) HDR processing, and you'll see how to control the end look of the image.

  • Can I Stop my Images from being Copied from my Web Pages

    On some websites I visit, it prevents you from right clicking on the image and saving it. A message pops up saying the image cannot be copied.

  • Protecting your email from being copied

    Does anyone know if there is a function for mac that can protect your emails frome being copied by another person.

    +Outlook does not include these capabilities which is impossible.+
    Don't be silly. Information rights management has been an integral part of MS' Office suite since the 2003 version. I might add that there are other programs that do the same thing, for other kinds of documents, for example Adobe Acrobat for pdf files. Unbelievably enough, even various well-known pieces of Apple software do the same thing for certain kinds of media files. You simply do not know what you are talking about.
    This is straight from Outlook's Help:
    "By using Permission on the toolbar, you can restrict permission on an e-mail message for specific recipients you want to read the message. As the message sender, you can remove restricted permission from a saved draft of a message by clicking Permission on the toolbar again. Recipients can open and read an e-mail message with restricted permission just as they would a message that doesn't have restricted permission. If recipients don't have Outlook 2003 or later installed on their computers, they can download the Rights Management Add-on for Internet Explorer or another program that supports content with restricted permission.
    E-mail administrators can create permission policies to include on the Outlook Permission submenu (or Permission on the File menu). These permission policies define who can read messages and what actions recipients can take with those messages. For example, an e-mail administrator might define a policy called "Company Confidential" that specifies that a message using that policy can be opened only by people inside the company domain. When you compose a message, you can choose from up to 20 customized policies on the Permission submenu (depending on how many policies the e-mail administrator provides)."
    +Regarding security, there is a night and day difference between Windows and OS X.+
    More nonsense. See my above remark.
