How do I protect my system files from baby?

My baby daughter enjoys banging on the Mac keyboard, and although I stop her when I catch her, sometimes she's too fast for me.
Today in less than 30 seconds she managed to dim the screen to almost unreadability and had the system files folder open.
Is there anything I can do to protect essential files in my computer, apart from putting it on a five-foot-tall shelf?
G5 iMac with Intel chip   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   G5 iMac with Intel chip

I had a simuliar issue with my 2 year old. I ended up making an account for her without admin rights then used parental control to dictate what she can and cannot access. I set it up so that safari is open to seseamestreet.com and photobooth is up (she loves taking pictures of the top of her head ). I've shown her how to access a kids painting program she likes too...she pretty sharp for almost being 3.
So anytime I'm going to away from the computer I fastswitch to her account in case she decides to want to use the imac.

  • How Can I protect my swf files from decompiling / saving

I have navigated through the internet for a long time now but
could not find the solution to my problem which is "how to protect
    my swf file from decompiling/saving"?
I know that it CAN BE DONE and here is an example of a file
on the internet that cannot be saved or decompiled using any
software that I have come across (ie:SOTHINK decompiler, saveflash)
    http://www.3dinternet.com/video.swf
    Any help? any hints ?
    Thanks

There is no way to protect your SWF from decompiling. Any
    commercial
software on the market can be decompiled -- including the
    Flash authoring
tool and Photoshop, for example -- which is why softare
    generally ships with
an end user license agreement (EULA) that expects you to
    agree not to
decompile or reverse engineer your purchase.
Most Flash content (other than RTMP requests for video, for
    example) are
HTTP requests, which by nature means the content is
    downloaded to your hard
drive, just like HTML documents, CSS files, JPGs, and GIFs.
    Your browser
requests the files, downloads them to your hard drive, then
    displays them
    from your local copy.

What you've seen, then, is merely the result of software
    that uses
unknown (to you or to your sofware) encryption/obfuscation
    algorithms. Keep
trying, and you'll eventually nail it.
At best, you can use obfuscators to temporarily deter a
    certain segment
    of the decompiling-inclined population.

  • How do I delete a system file from Time Machine?

After consulting this support document, I tried to delete a Safari cache file that was captured by Sophos's Quarantine Manager as containing a common phishing hook. But it's in Library and Time Machine can't locate it. The Library folder, as you know, is typically hidden, and it wasn't there when I went to the starfield.
It's not a big threat to me, and will soon disappear from my cache, but it bugs me that I can't get to it.

Enter Time Machine from within your user Library folder. That will bring you to your user Library within Time Machine. (Your user Library is visible under the Go menu in Finder if you hold down the Option key.)

  • How to protect my jar file from being downloaded

How can i protect my jar file from being downloaded by users by accessing it through the web site.
Now everybody can just type the url www.mysite.com/applets/myApplet.jar
And download it to his computer.
I realize that anybody who really wants to download it he will get it anyway, but I want to make it harder.
    thanks in advance

Your browser has to download the jar file if it's going to run the applet. That's applets work. The browser downloads the classes and then runs them locally.
I suppose if you wanted to make something to make it difficult for users to explicitly download the jar, you could set some kind of permission flag when the HTML is page is rendered, and then unset it some amount of time (10 seconds?) later, and then only let the user download the jar when the flag is set. But this would be fragile and irritating and unhelpful. It would probably break more than you'd like and not prevent download very much (it wouldn't take long to figure out what was happening), and besides nobody is ever going to try to steal your code.

How can I prevent a PDF file from being copied, printed or downloaded? Students should only be able to view the text and and not distribute it in any way.

You can prevent it from being printed by applying a security policy to it
in Acrobat. The rest can't be prevented, unless you spend  a LOT of money
    on DRM protection.

I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.

  • How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie. The two   hour wait to view all in iMovie puts the kibosh on my edit time.

How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie? The two + hour wait for thumb nails and hour long wait looking for the right videos kills the time I have to edit.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Protecting your jar file from been extracted

Please i noticed that the java jar file of a software can easily be extracted to review the class files with winrar which allows just anyone to have access to your class file and decompile to get source codes, allowing pirating of the software. How can I lock the jar file to prevent extraction of my class files.

    3. it is true if you can use basic methods that EJP mentioned, there would be no need for obfuscators, nor native library use.
but there are many situations that you can't do any of those methods.
    4. EJP claims that he probably is the one "who have had perhaps 40 times as long as you've had to think about it."
here is the problem that made me use both obfuscation and native library :
My company released a simple java library that scanned a document (directly from scanner or camera device).
    the documents were exam papers.
Use some OCR techniques to convert image to text so some other application could calculate the score using it's api.
For marketing purposes, the company needed to publish a 7-day trial version of this library.
So, as you can see I'm eager to hear what you want to suggest.

  • Protecting Java jar files from decompiling.

    Hello,
I need to distrubute ny Java application, I know there are tools to reengineer the java class file. How to Protect my class files from exploitation.
    Any suggestions.

    1. Write a no-decompile clause into the licence.
    2. Make your product so expensive that no licensee will want anybody else to get one for nothing.
    3. Make your product so inexpensive that it would be simpler to buy it than reverse-engineer it.
    4. Bring out new versions of your product so rapidly or with such amazing new features in each release that the reverse-engineers can't keep up with you.
    5. Make a proper evaluation of the forgone revenue against the cost of all this engineering, that doesn't assume you would have sold a copy to every potential pirate, or that you can actually deter every potential pirate.
In short it is a business problem. Not a technical problem.

i dont know how to change my current music file from quicktime to a mp3 audio file, how do you do it?
If you are using a "basic" Mac OS X v10.8.4 install/codec configuration then you can use iTunes to convert to MP3 audio. It has a built in MP3 encoder which you can set up as your default audio import/conversion compression format. Otherwise it depends on how you system's codec components are configured and/or what media applications you have installed.
