How do I pull together small clips from many sources?

I have about 8 hrs of HD video from various speakers, so I imported them into 8 separate projects. Now I want to take a few seconds of commentary from the various projects and pull them into a single edited video.
However, it seems that I am copying the entire (15 min) source clip every time I want to use just a few seconds anywhere inside of it... multiple clips will cause the entire source clip to be copied redundantly.
Is there anyway around this?

Hi Munnecke - welcome to the forum!
Yes, non-destructive editing has that problem!
Make sure that within each imovie, you select all of the required clips at one time - this minimises the number of times a particular source clip is duplicated.
You could drag and drop the small segments from each imovie into a new project, edit that, then save to Full Quality QT. Then trash what you do not need.

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

That sounds great, but I'm lost.
I followed these steps:
1) Open your PDF (in Adobe Acrobat Pro)
2) Chose print
The print/printer options pop-up will show.
3) In the printer section, do not use your normal printer, a printer named Adobe PDF should be an option. Chose it.
4) Under the "Page handling" section, change the Page Scaling drop-down menu to "Multiple pages per sheet".
It works fine, but it looses all of the font information and the search no longer works. How can you do it and save the font info, so the search tool continues to operate.
Am I missing anything?

The Duration of Stills is set with Edit>Preferences to the number of Frames required, where ~ 30 Frames = 01 sec. of Duration.
Unfortunately, the Duration cannot be reset (Edit>Preferences) for material that has already been Imported. The procedure is to Delete those Imported Stills, and make the change, then re-Import them, and you will get the Duration that you have reset.
The only other option at this point is to manually Click-drag on the Head, or Tail of each Still in the Timeline, to adjust the Duration. I do this with the Info Panel open and visible to make it easier. Personally, unless I am well into the editing process, the Delete, change and re-Import option is my choice.

PS - the ability to alter the Duration en masse for Imported Stills in the Project Panel has just been added in PrPro CS5. I do not know if it has been added in PrE 9 though.

They chapters are mp3 files. Changing the genre to "audiobook" or "audiobooks" does help.
I am sure this question will come up a lot, since the book in question is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," purchased from Pottermore.com.

The one thing I would add to the instructions above is that the "Media Kind" menu is on the "Option" pane in the "Get Info" Window. This procedure has allowed me not only to make imported audiobooks show up as audiobooks, but imported podcasts show up as podcasts.

Hi,
You can refer the page items in your page header as &itemname. For example, if I have page item P15_TEST, I will add the following in header:
<marquee>
&P15_TEST.
</marquee>But make sure that you have a process before header to populate the value in your page item. Otherwise, there will be a null scrolling (which you can't see!) :)

Why can't I drag clips from my source window to my program window on Premiere CS6?

I am only able to drag clips from my source window to my timeline, but not to my program window. Anyone know what the problem might be?
Also, the "insert" and "overwrite" buttons are not working from my source window, nor are their shortcuts ("," or "."). Well, I did exactly what you said. then in Moviemaker I chose "Save to DVD" This works when the video is from my previous Sony camcorder, beautifully.
But after doing its converting and saving and burning, there is nothing, nada zilch on the DVD from the vado movie (that I can watch the whole thing in Moviemaker). and
when I tell Mviemaker "Save to view on MyComputer" only the MM titles and music appear in MediaCenter. No vado video at all.

I'm trying to pull just the year from a date and cannot figure out how this can be done. I tried the SUBSTR fuction but its not acting how I would expect. What I'm wanting to do is write a condition that says Item Birth Year = Current Year minus 23 I have a calc that figures the age from the difference in the birthdate and current year but I'd really like to just write a condition based just one years. Can this be done?

SUBSTR will only work on a string. To extract portions of a date you need to use the TO_CHAR command.
To get the year you would use this: TO_CHAR(the_date,'YYYY')
TO_CHAR takes 2 switches, the date to be manipulated and the portion to be extracted, with the portion in single quotes.
Once you get used to manipulating dates like this other common pieces are: DD - extracts the day of the month, MON extracts the 3 character code for the month.
Thus you can use this: TO_CHAR(sysdate,'DD-MON-YYYY') and it will convert the current date, June 7th 2012 to 07-JUN-2012

How do I stop background audio clips from playing while browsing sites?

Firefox is my default browser. I use Google chrome and Internet explorer sessions for background monitoring news site sessions at the same time. I have no problem with the other two browsers. While surfing with Firefox I get unwanted background audio clips that start and run by themselves. I cannot stop them. They run and then stop by their self. They are some sort of adware and I cannot find the source to remove them. I also get video clips sometimes that I can stop that run around the outside of the active window I am viewing. These is very annoying. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but the problem does not go away. I antivirus software, registry change protection software, and registry cleaning software. The problem is with the default browser.
How can I locate and remove the plugin, addin or service that starts this annoying activity. I have no special unwanted toolbars installed. There is nothing in the installed programs list in the control that shouldn't be there.

I had a similar problem to this. EVERYTIME i started firefox, it would play an audio clip from a flash game i played a while ago, it would last 5 minutes before finishing. i tried the starting in safe mode, but that didn't work for me, so after that i then tried RESETTING firefox, and that has worked for me.
On another side of startup problems, firefox would also open up a new tab on startup, usually 22find.com or do-search.com. i know these are caused by a virus and have since deleted it, but it had changed a preference file in firefox causing it to continue to open on startup.
Having since done the firefox reset, i haven't had either of these problems AT ALL! would recommend this as a possible fix for you friend before trying any lengthy troubleshooting process or downloading any extra anti-virus removal software.

Shut down the MBP and disconnect all peripherals and the AC adapter from it. hold it up on end with the drive slot toward the floor and gently shake it up and down in hopes that the disc will eventually find its way out through the slot. If this doesn't work out, take the machine to an Apple Store or authorized service provider to have the drive removed and the disc removed from it. This work won't be covered by your warranty; you'll have to pay for it.
Take the time to read the manual that came with your MBP. It specifically instructs you not to insert nonstandard CDs or DVDs into the drive, and there's a lot of other information in it that you need to know.
