How do I put a thin 1px rectangle around an image?

Using Photoshop CS5, can someone tell me how I put a thin 1px rectangle around an existing image
For example, imagine I have an image that 500px wide and 200 px high
I want a 10px gap all around and then I want the thin rectangle
What would the proper way of doing this?
Importantly, the image will be a PNG, so I want the gap around the image to be transparent
I'm planning to have on a black background, so want my rectangle to be a white line
+ is Photoshop the correct application to use to do this?
Thanks in advance
Omar

lee... i'm really happy with the results
only a small thing though: the outline sint 1px
i only noticed that afterwards
se the following 2 pics below
the first was created using ur method
the second was created by a longer manual process: say we have 100 x 100 pic. create a new pic with transparent background of 122 x 122. now create a white blank pic of 120 x 120 size. copy the white and put into 122x122. no from the layers menu, add a 1px stroke. now flatten. now erase the white - u now have the required outline!. create a new pic with transparent background of size 122x122. copy and paste both th eoriginal pic and new outline pic. hey presto, 50 steps later, u have what i wanted.
problem is it's 50 steps
i like ur solution. this can be automated. the second solution can't be automated: BUT it gives the 1px outline i wanted!
let me know what u think
thanks

  • HOW CAN I PUT A PERMANENT CAPTION ON A JPEG IMAGE?

I have Elements 8 operating (successfully!) with Windows 7.  How can I put a caption on the Jpeg that will actually appear on the photo and will show on a print?  I would like the caption to run along the bottom of the image.  I believe that using the "Title" feature in Pre Elements will not imprint itself on the jpeg file image.  Am I right?

    Hi,
Use the text tool.  Make a box in the approximate location you wnt the caption, choose a font and size, and type the caption into the box.  You can then use the move tool to fine-tune and adjust the location.  When satisfied, you can flatten and save the image.  Hope this helps.

  • How can I create a vector path boundary around an image?

I have enclosed a screenshot of an image created in Photoshop CS4 with a wacom. It shows a grey boundary stroke around the entire image which was created with edit/stroke, then color and width of stroke selected.
What I want to do is to bring this image into Illustrator CS4 and create a vector path boundary aroun d the image in the same way as the stroke boundary in Photoshop. But I dont know how to do thatx except by doing it manually with the pen tool.
Does anyone know if it is possible to create a vector path around the image in a similar way that I created the stroke line around the image in Photoshop?
I need the vector path to make a cutting line for a laser cutter, which works with vector files.
Thanks for any advice about this.

Not only should you draw the cut path deliberately with the Pen Tool, but that entire illustration should have been drawn as vector paths to begin with. In fact, if it were me, I would do that now anyway. It's nicely done, but illustrations like that are much more versatile and valuable as a vector drawings, because they are infinitely scaleable withou degradation of sharpness.
Had it been drawn as vector paths, generating the outset cut line could be semi-automated by merging a copy of all the paths and then just outsetting the resulting path.
Vector illustrations like that, consisting of just a few colored fills and strokes, can be entirely cut and assembled from sign vinyl at any scale, rather than resorting to merely printing the artwork and then cutting around it.
Edits (recoloring, reshaping) can be easily made to vector paths without degradation, because each path is a separate object.
And whenever you do need a raster image, a raster image suitable for any purpose can be exported from a vector drawing at any time. Each such rasterization is pristine, because no re-rasterization is involved.
Not meaning to preach you a sermon; it just seems so many visitors here who have only used raster imaging don't even understand the reasons why vector drawing exists. This kind of graphic begs to be created as vector paths, and is also the very kind which would be ideal for vector-drawing beginners to start with. So it's just a good case-in-point.

  • Thin Line Border around Still Images?

    Hi,
just wondering if anyone can help me out, I've searched for an answer to this problem to no avail.
I'm currently creating a very simple project in Premiere Pro CC, it's just a slideshow of JPEG images with a title text underneath the whole thing.
The images are black and white drawings on a white background, however, when I export the video I am left with a very thin grey line around the border of the image.
Oddly enough, this border doesn't appear in preview or in the export 'source and output' preview box.
I've attached a screenshot of the problem below.
It's as though some sort of stroke has been applied to the border of the image, although I'm sure it hasn't.
If anyone could help me out, that'd be great. This seems like it should be a simple thing to do and I'm surprised it's causing me hassle.
    Thank you,
    Rory.

I'm not sure what might cause something like that, but there are a couple of things you can do to correct it.
Create a frame-size image in Photoshop with a white background.  Bring in each image and add it there, then save it out as a new image.
Or you can remove the white background of each image in Photoshop and save them out as PNGs with alpha.

  • How to create a fancy picture frame border around an image

    Hi there,
Does anybody know how to create a fancy picture frame around
an image that's inside an AP DIV? I want the image to look like
it's a picture hanging on the wall. Any of your guru's know how to
    do that - eh then?
Thanks a mill for any help!

Find or use your graphics program to create an image of a
    frame you like.
Size it so its inside measurements match your picture.
Option 1 - Paste your picture image on the frame image and
    insert in your container.
Option 2 - Place your frame image as a non-repeating
background for your container and then insert your picture.

  • How do I put a property line border around ariel photo of a property?

I'm trying to put a red border around a property in an black and white ariel photo. I can do it with the pencil tool but I want to do it point to point for straight lines?

    Butch, I agree with you.
I prefer to utilize the line tool because it facilitates color selection for the outline, which Hank needs, and also there is a style selection option. In addition, as one uses the tool incremental layers are generated. If needed, one can then make adjustments with the move tool, or delete a layer and replace it with a correction.
Both get the job done - personal preference.

  • PDF exporting with thin black lines around some images

    Hi there,
I have spent A LOT of time making a custom SAVE THE DATE card and I cannot find a solution to this problem. When I am working in the document, I do not see thin borders around any of the images but when I export to PDF they show up. I have NO BORDERS selected for all images in the document and cannot figure out why they keep showing up after export.
I have attached a screen grab of what the document looks like when I am working on it, and another one of what it looks like after export. I am using Pages 5.2.2 and OS X version 10.9.5
I need to order these SAVE THE DATES by tomorrow to take advantage of the 60% off! Thanks so much for your help!

I am seeing this same problem in a family newsletter I've created.  The lines do not show up in Pages, but when I export to pdf (or print to pdf), the lines appear.  When I print the document, no lines appear.
Here's what the top of the newsletter looks like - the black lines show up on all the pages, and in the beige-covered overlay, crosshatching is visible.   The template I'm using was in existence two years ago, but doesn't seem to exist in Pages anymore.  Would that have anything to do with the lines showing up?
I also found this link, but can't apply any of the suggested fixes, since they apply to Adobe:  <http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/thin-white-dark-lines-stitching.html>.

  • How to type text in a circular shape around an image without warping it?

I'm an intermediate user of Photoshop.  I've unsuccessfully wrapped text in a circular shape without distorting it.  The 'warp text' feature is does to achieve the appearance I seek. If possible, what are the steps to successfully do it in Photoshop.
    Thanks in Advance!

To create a ring of type as seen in Fig. 6:
    1. Open a new file (File > New) with the same height as its width, perhaps ten inches square and then type the sentence that is to create the circle (Fig. 1)
    2. Converting the type line to a circle reduces its height. To compensate for that, choose Edit > Transform > Scale. Drag the type to about twice its height (Fig. 2)
    3. Choose the Move tool and shift the type line close to – but not touching – the left edge. (Fig 3)
    4. Choose the Crop tool. In the Options bar change Unconstained to 1 x 1 (Square). Then drag the right corner handle of the Crop diagonally until there is a one-letter space between the last letter of the type line and the right edge of the square. (Fig. 4)   OK
    5. Center the line vertically. (Fig 5)
    6. Choose Select > All. Then, choose Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates. Rasterize the type when asked. Radio button should be set to Rectangular to Polar. To preview the image, adjust the percent listed below the inset illustration. Click OK. The result: Fig 6
    7. Choose Select > Deselect and, for final housekeeping, choose the Crop tool and return the Options bar to Unconstrained.
    8. Save the file in psd format so that the circle of type remains on a transparent surround and the layer may be floated onto another image.
Remember: A rasterized image will lose sharpness with enlargement. It would be prudent to use the circle of type at same size or smaller.

This shouldn't be an issue in any used browser today.

Way too complicated. If you want to change the color or style
    of the
border, you have to modify the image. With CSS you can
    directly change
the line style in a much easier and faster way.

  • How do I put a border around my title, please?

I have a title page for a short video, edited in Premiere Pro, for YouTube.  I want to put a rectangular frame (border) around that title page.  I want the color of the border  to be the same color as the font in the title.  How do I do this, please?  Below are the three elements from Publisher - background, title and frame.  I want to combine the same elements in Premiere Pro. (I'm not trying to use Publisher in Premiere Pro, I am just trying to make it clearer what I am trying to do.) (I'm a rookie, obviously.)  Thank you.

    OK.
First of all the yellow line started life as a rectangle. I eliminated the fill by unchecking it, and added an inner stroke. To get the same yellow you used, I took a screen capture of your image then added it to my title as a logo. That allowed me to use the eyedropper next to the rectangle to sample your yellow text for the color of the stroke. When the stroke was properly yellow, I deleted the logo (your text).
Then I typed the text and using the eyedropper again, I changed the color to match the outline.
Adding a little bit of shadow makes it look better, by the way. Like this:
These are my settings for the above

  • How can I put an image onto a postcard format?

How can I put an image onto a postcard format?

By postcard format do you mean crop the picture into a postcard shape?
If so, here is one way: Activate the Rectangular Marque tool. Set Style to Fixed Aspect Ratio, and enter the dimensions for Width & Height. In this example I used a standard postcard size of 6" x 4.25".  Open your picture, draw out the rectangle, and Image > Crop. The picture will now be in the 6 x 4.25 proportion.
To get it to the actual 6" x 4.25" size, do Image > Resize > Image Size. Check the Constrain Proportions Box, and enter either the true Width or Height; the other dimension will change accordingly.
If this is not what you are trying to do, please be more specific.
